To ask what you use to de-frizz top layer frizz on curly hair?

My curly hair, once luscious, has now turned into a dry fest.

The curls are fine, but I get far more frizz on top.

Any thoughts on best oils etc to use BETWEEN shampooing and conditioning?

Comb coconut oil through night before-sleep in it & just shampoo out in morning! I’ve tried loads of potions / oils / expensive shampoos but this is the best & probably the cheapest thing I’ve tried!

I believe we have a style and beauty topic for this

MsFrizzle · 14/06/2018 18:55

Look into the curly girl method.

overmydeadbody · 14/06/2018 18:58

I second using coconut oil, leave it in over night and then wash out.

Also use the ' no poo' method, ditch the shampoo and just use conditioner.

kaitlinktm · 14/06/2018 19:43

But isn't there anything you can use without having to wash it again? Everything I try leaves my hair sticky and full of ... stuff. Sad

summersmith · 14/06/2018 19:45

Living proof products work well.

RomeoBunny · 14/06/2018 19:49

JohnFrieda stuff in the purple tube. Fab stuff. No residue, no heaviness, turns your holly bush in to smooth clouds

SolidarityGdansk · 14/06/2018 19:50

Google “curly girl”

steff13 · 14/06/2018 19:52

Someone on here last week said silicone-free personal lubricant.

And yes to Curly Girl.

kaitlinktm · 14/06/2018 19:53

Thanks Romeo

There seem to be quite a few JF stuff in purple tubes - is it the Frizz-Ease Secret Agent Touch Up Crème?

MyKingdomForACaramel · 14/06/2018 19:54

There’s a pink thing from boots - I forget the bloody name but it’s amazing for curly hair.

AllyMcBeagle · 14/06/2018 19:54

The curls are fine, but I get far more frizz on top.

Frizz is basically curly hair why has escaped from the rest of the curl. Oils won't necessarily help.

What do you do when you sleep? I get bad frizz on top from pillow friction if I just sleep with it down. A satin cap or pillow might help, or 'pineappling' it.

You could also try re-wetting your hair in between washes to reactivate the curls. Water with a little bit of conditioner mixed in a good misting spray bottle might work for you.

MeyYael · 14/06/2018 19:55

I use soap free shower bars or shower oil to wash my hair.

Silk pillows do make a difference imo. And putting my hair in wraps (which I don't really do anymore... Because I'm lazy. But I do braid my hair every evening.)

I also use a heavy (silicone free) conditioner. And a leave in conditioner / spray.

Metoodear · 14/06/2018 19:57

You need to co wash op

Gobbychops · 14/06/2018 19:59

I use Moroccan oil and then let it dry naturally.

FlourishandBlotts · 14/06/2018 21:14

Water based lube is worth a try! Rub some between your hands and run over the frizzes or apply before styling as a 'primer' of sorts.

Portobellomushroom · 15/06/2018 19:37

thanks all

Palmers coconut cleansing conditioner, ditch the shampoo. I’ve been doing it for about 3 months now, my fuzz halo has calmed down a lot.

Purplefrogshoes · 15/06/2018 20:08

Lube

theothersweretaken · 15/06/2018 20:08

I use Cantu 'curl activator cream' after washing (when still damp). I use a LOT and the curls are perfect for 2 days, then I use a spray bottle with a squeeze of the Cantu cream or conditioner and top up with water - spritz all over hair, especially frizzy bits. It means I only have to wash every 4 days because the curls last so much longer/less frizz!

CurlsandCurves · 15/06/2018 20:15

There are several curly girl groups on Facebook which are great for advice.’ Curly girls uk- inspired by the curly girl method’ is a great one.

TheLionRoars1110 · 15/06/2018 21:23

As others have said the curly girl method and put your hair up in a high pony tail at night. Helps reduce fizz.

specialsubject · 15/06/2018 21:34

with decades of curly hair that went frizzy at least provocation, I cant see any of that working. wet it every day to get curl from frizz for a few hours.

thank goodness for loreal xtenso and wella straight. goodbye ghastly ageing fuzz, hello comb and comfort.

SnappyFartyKarate · 15/06/2018 21:43

I wash my hair first when I get in the shower, then I put conditioner (straightening one from Herbal Essences when I can get it) and leave it in as I do my face, body, etc, then wash it out with cold water. Then I get some Moroccan oil and work it through, a little more on the bits that get frizzy, brush it through while still really wet and let it air dry.

secretgirl · 15/06/2018 21:49

When leaving coconut oil in overnight do you melt it and apply to wet or dry hair? Thanks x
