Watching £100k drop on catch up.

I'm an ex nurse haven't practised for almost 2 decades but still remember the basics (I hope)

Answers:

Lacrimal
Parotid
Sebaceous

Q tears are produced from which gland in the body?

The only one she even recognised as a gland was sebaceous and that's what she put ALL their money on.

Nurses and ex-nurses can you answer this

A without googling
B knowing what the other glands do and where they are?

I knew it instantly and I'm quite shocked a currently practising, probably fairly recently qualified nurse didn't know this! Surely it's basic A&P?!

Not even my area of expertise.

Anditstartsagain · 14/06/2018 19:05

I'm a beauty therapist we do a&p. I know it right away.

TroysMammy · 14/06/2018 19:08

I'm not a nurse but a G P Receptionist and I would say lacrimal because of lacri -lube eye gel people order.

soulrider · 14/06/2018 19:09

I know it because of the Manu Chao song - Lágrimas De Oro Smile

ditavonteesed · 14/06/2018 19:11

I know it's Lacrimal but only cause I work in head and neck so know what parotid is and Sebaceous is obviously skin. I wouldn't have known otherwise and definatly didn't get taught that, qualified quite recently.

allthatmalarkey · 14/06/2018 19:12

There's a nice Italian white wine called Lacrima Cristi (or something like it!) which I was told means 'the tears of Christ'. So knowing a weird, wine-related fact would have got me as a non-nurse to that answer.

ScreamingValenta · 14/06/2018 19:12

Not a nurse, but I know this from the Latin root of the word.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 14/06/2018 19:13

I’m a nurse and knew it. But I also know that lachrymose means tearfulness.

It’s only easy, when you know the answer!

MissPerfectPants · 14/06/2018 19:13

I know them all. Ex medical audiotypist.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 14/06/2018 19:13

Not a nurse or HCP but know it's lacrimal from the Latin.

MattLeBlancVest · 14/06/2018 19:14

My contact lenses that I wear are called lacrima. So that would be how I get it right. Not medical.

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/06/2018 19:14

Anyone, who’s read anything about skin blemishes knows what a sebaceous gland is! I guessed lacrimal simply because it more closely ressembles larmes in French. Didn’t study Latin.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 14/06/2018 19:14

There was a science teacher in the final section of 'Pointless' recently. She had to name bones of the skull. There were 22 to choose from and most of them would have been pointless. She chose the mandible. Another question was to name radioactive elements, again, there were many pointless answers but she opted for Uranium. She won nothing.

She should have been embarassed.

NoParticularPattern · 14/06/2018 19:17

I’m not even a nurse (or a HCP of any description. Not even close in sector!) and I’d have got that right. Wouldn’t surprise me though if she was actually a HCA rather than a nurse though! I know a few who think they’re practically doctors just because they work in a hospital!

Puremince · 14/06/2018 19:18

Not any sort of medical person, but I would have got it from knowing that lachrymose means tearful. Also I know where the parotid gland is because mine was affected when I had mumps.

NotAgainYoda · 14/06/2018 19:19

Not a nurse and I know Lachrymose means tearful.

Didn't do Latin but I love Words

Reading Reader's Digest at your Grandmother's helps.

noeffingidea · 14/06/2018 19:21

Haven't nursed for 30 years, but still got it right.
I can actually still remember a lot of what I learnt when I was a nurse. Though this comes more under general knowledge, IMO.

Wobblybitts · 14/06/2018 19:21

^^Ditto

Penners99 · 14/06/2018 19:21

Not a nurse and I knew the answer

SockQueen · 14/06/2018 19:22

I'm a doctor and know it. I'm not THAT surprised that not every nurse knows or remembers it though - I know I've forgotten loads of the details of anatomy that I learnt at med school which are no longer relevant to me.

Maelstrop · 14/06/2018 19:23

I’d have known that and I’m not a nurse. I did Latin at school and went to lots of Catholic events, tears of Christ are mentioned occasionally. Isn’t it a decent wine, too?

AnnieAnoniMouser · 14/06/2018 19:25

Not a nurse
No medical background
Didn’t do Latin at school

I knew, but I have no idea how/where from.

Sortofcool · 14/06/2018 19:26

Not a nurse but i know that lacrimose refers to tears.

TarragonChicken · 14/06/2018 19:27

There isn't necessarily this detail of anatomy in pre-reg training, so I can see why she might not.

I know it's lacrimal from the Latin root, but if you hadn't given the 3 options I would have struggled to name the gland exactly.

pandamodium · 14/06/2018 19:28

Not a nurse, carer and I know it off an eye treatment.

No idea if a nurse should know it or not.

user1471462428 · 14/06/2018 19:28

I’m a nurse and would have guessed that but it was only a guess. It’s been a long time since I studied eyes. I always tell my students it’s impossible to know everything but essential to be interested in everything. I have moved specialties several times and loved learning skills and knowledge but tend to forget when I leave.
