Semi see-through dress to a work do

whatyadoing · 10/06/2018 22:08

No, I'm not entirely thick, but we have a work event on Thursday and the theme is Caribbean.

I bought this dress.
Unfortunately I only tried it on this evening and it's a little bit see-through.
I've nothing else to blooming wear for this god-damned themed crap. I've bought a colourful necklace yokeymebob for around my neck and will wear nude coloured underwear (still have to buy the knickers) but....
Would you completely re-think outfit? The fabric is quite thin...?

I think that is not appropriate at any works do unless wearing something on your bottom half. Those slits are quite high at the side and it is short in the first place. Not a good idea if it’s semi see through too!

Biscuit

Well if you’re gonna ignore everythingnandbwear it anyway, carry on!

whatyadoing · 10/06/2018 22:45

Think I'll bring shorts and tops and another dress not remotely summery and ask a colleague on the day when they can actually see me in the flesh (hopefully not so much lol).

You have got loads of time to get something delivered unless you work in the Highlands or somewhere equally remote

The dress is not appropriate unless you wear demin shorts or similar under it

Stay away from the headdress....

A flower necklace (lei) is not Caribbean at all, though bright shirts can be (depends which bit you are talking about)

Just buy a brightly coloured sun dress that you can wear again

Was going to say don't spend more money on trying to make that work because it won't. Just return it and search for tropical print dress as above. Its actually not that difficult a theme, as it seems from your posts they just meant 'things with big flowers on'.

MamaMiapartytime · 10/06/2018 22:47

but we have a work event on Thursday and the theme is Caribbean

Just leave and get another jobGrin no job is worth attending a theme party with colleagues.

Atalune - you posted a photo of a very very revealing shorts/top thing. You're hardly an oracle on respectable clothing. Just because I didn't thank you for your helpful/not helpful post, doesn't mean that I am not reading the replies.

Can you wear a bright colored bikini or swimsuit under? Then it would look like it was supposed to be a bit see through.

whatyadoing · 10/06/2018 22:49

MamaMiaPartyTime - I'm with you. Stress!!!!

I'd think you'd forgotten your trousers.

FoofFighter · 10/06/2018 22:50

Loads of tops and sun dresses in the high st with pineapples on.

wastingtimeontinternet · 10/06/2018 22:51

it's a beach/ swimwear cover-up not a dress (look at the URL/ section it's in). Do not wear that with just underwear underneath. Not for anything, let alone a work-do.

whatyadoing · 10/06/2018 22:53

Well I'm supposed to be in the Caribbean! It's also supposed to be pissing rain Thursday.

ShinyShooney · 10/06/2018 22:53

Bloody hell. The average bloke would take a Hawaiian shirt to wear on holiday in the caribbean so i really don't understand why people are getting their knickers in a twist. It hardly sounds like a cultural event clearly just wanted people looking fun and colourful!

OlennasWimple · 10/06/2018 22:54

If you wanted to go short, this flamingo print playsuit would be better

Or a flamingo onesie...

This pineapple print dress is lovely as is this one and this one

Pineapple playsuit

Moneyissue2 · 10/06/2018 22:54

I tried five dresses (not beach wear) on recently in H&M, every single one regardless of colour was completely see through.

MumofBoysx2 · 10/06/2018 22:55

If it's Caribbean couldn't you wear some really colourful floral leggings underneath, and a vest top?

MumofBoysx2 · 10/06/2018 22:58

I like Olennas pineapple dress

Graphista · 10/06/2018 22:58

You have 4 days, my dd is always ordering Asos next day (one of her jobs sometimes requires fancy dress type nonsense).

White even MORE see through if there's a disco/dance involved so dark but with flashing lights - also if photographed.

I too think it is a PR disaster in the making following windrush. Especially depending on the type of business they're in.

RainbowGlitterFairy · 10/06/2018 22:59

wear shorts under it and a bikini top, with the wide brim hat and flower garland you'll look fine.

name54321 · 10/06/2018 22:59

Party sounds horrific. Think I'd be planning a nasty tummy bug which tragically meant I had to miss all the "fun".

MsJudgemental · 10/06/2018 23:00

Regardless of its transparency and length, this really doesn’t say ‘Carribean’ to me. Think colour and pattern, palm trees, exotic floral, etc., jewellery and other accessories. Can be done really cheaply and in a dignified way for a works do.
