Semi see-through dress to a work do

whatyadoing · 10/06/2018 22:08

No, I'm not entirely thick, but we have a work event on Thursday and the theme is Caribbean.

I bought this dress.
Unfortunately I only tried it on this evening and it's a little bit see-through.
I've nothing else to blooming wear for this god-damned themed crap. I've bought a colourful necklace yokeymebob for around my neck and will wear nude coloured underwear (still have to buy the knickers) but....
Would you completely re-think outfit? The fabric is quite thin...?

"Believe me, we've already had the discussion about Hawaii/Caribbean lol -"

It isn't really a Lol matter. Would the same happen if it was French themed, as long as White people lived there, the country picked would do?

Just watch what your works put on SM.

Atalune · 10/06/2018 22:34

Asos next day delivery?

Bigpizzalover · 10/06/2018 22:35

What about a dress with a tropical print

SerenDippitty · 10/06/2018 22:35

I’d be more inclined to wear something like this

www.wallis.co.uk/en/wluk/product/dresses-265974/maxi-dresses-266010/black-tropical-print-maxi-dress-7671872?bi=0&ps=20

'Carribean' is an awful theme and pretty dodgy from a cultural awareness perspective. You could whack on a bob Marley t shirt and a red gold and green knitted hat just to go for maximum looking like a twat points!

Regardless, you can't wear a see through dress. Return that one and buy something long and loose in bright colours like red, blue and green and your floral necklace.

Or

Semi see-through dress to a work do

whatyadoing · 10/06/2018 22:36

The theme is Caribbean.
Men were told to wear Hawaiian shirts etc.
I don't think anyone is too anal in the company I work in.
Talk about side-tracking!

This?

Big hat, wedges, stacks if bangles and fake tan for that summery glow!

Ivorbig1 · 10/06/2018 22:37

Opt for the male choice. Bin the dress, it’s tacky. Sorry.

whatyadoing · 10/06/2018 22:37

It's too late for me to buy anything at this stage!

Or flip the gendered expectations on their head and wear Bermuda shorts and flip flops

Sparklefloof · 10/06/2018 22:38

Cough it says dress in the description Hmm and fgs everyone else it's really not that short?! Confused

It's obviously not formal but if the men are wearing Hawaiian shirts I think it would be fine, especially with a colourful head wrap, some nice wedges and some earrings in this style for example www.newlook.com/uk/womens/accessories/jewellery/red-and-orange-tiered-tassel-drop-earrings/p/575343969?comp=ProductList-Color-Swatch

HarryLovesDraco · 10/06/2018 22:38

It's really not about your company's employees being 'anal' it's more about a potential PR disaster for a company choosing a ridiculous theme for a party that lends itself too easily to total missing of the mark but whatever

DuchyDuke · 10/06/2018 22:38

Order a bloody underslip from Amazon Prime; your do is on Thursday. You have DAYS left.

Atalune · 10/06/2018 22:38

Asos next day delivery!

SuitedandBooted · 10/06/2018 22:38

I would go with a brightly-patterned dress if you have it, and a necklace. Something like this one

Order online. It will be here by Tuesday.

ASOS deliver really quickly and are quick at processing returns and refunds if you can afford to get a few options.

Sorry, but that white number is awful.

HarryLovesDraco · 10/06/2018 22:39

Oh gawd not a colourful head wrap! Pleeeaaase

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 10/06/2018 22:40

Try the supermarket for a printed maxi dress or something they all have summer wear in just now and open outside office hours.
TBH if I was a size 6-8 I’d probably wear it to the party with shorts and a boob tube print top underneath. It isn’t meant to be a dress it’s meant to be a beach cover up so it needs something under it.

amymel2016 · 10/06/2018 22:42

Wear a pair of shorts underneath and either a vest top or bikini top. Done.

Heismyopendoor · 10/06/2018 22:42

It’s see through as it’s a beach cover up, not a dress to be (usually) worn on a night out. Obviously doesn’t mean you can’t, I’m just saying why it’s not totally solid.

I wouldn’t wear it. As per your opening post, I would rethink the entire outfit.

CoughLaughFart · 10/06/2018 22:42

Cough it says dress in the description Hmm and fgs everyone else it's really not that short?! Confused

It can say canoe or banana in the bloody description - I’m saying it’s ridiculously short for a dress in my eyes. Am I allowed an opinion without you throwing in this stupid face? Hmm

I'm wearing a sun hat. A wide brimmed one. And the garland. I'm hoping maybe the eye will be drawn to the colour of the garland. It's not entirely see-through, it's just because it's white, you can see the outline of your body. Not the end of the world really.
