Simon Mayo Drivetime - Latest

Like many people, I've signed the petitions and complained to the BBC about the changes to the Simon Mayo Drivetime programme...or rather the complete decimation of it.

In the end, I wrote to Whistledown...the people who make the Radio 4 Feedback programme. They are the only ones to respond and they has said that the recent changes will be covered in their programme on Friday 15th. They want me to read out some of my complaint which of course I'm more than happy to do Grin.

So if you've given Jo Whiley and Simon Mayo Show time to 'settle in' (the BBC's words not mine) and still want the Drivetime show and team back, now may be the time to write to the Radio 4 Feedback programme. The links are:
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006slnx/contact
or
[email protected]

Please spread the word and see if we can get the Drivetime team back where they belong Smile

Balls in the morning and Cox in the evening?

No thanks, loved Simon Mayo, can't bear Sara Cox

florafawna · 23/10/2018 12:41

I prefer salad cream.

myfatarse · 23/10/2018 12:47

@Tahani i loved the old drivetime with Mayo and crew but can't stand Whiney Whiley.

Sara is down to earth and likeable IMO

Tahani · 23/10/2018 13:03

@myfatarse I liked the old drivetime - my hours have changed now so am not 'driving' at the right time any more, but i've never liked Sara Cox, something about her just grates on me (i know she's my biggest fan though.... )

I heard/or read someone suggest Liza Tarbuck would have been a good mix with Simon - not sure but probably would have worked better than JW

longwayoff · 23/10/2018 13:12

Petitions? Really?

myfatarse · 23/10/2018 13:49

@tahani I agree, think Lisa would have been better with him, they both come across more "homely" where as Whijey reminds me of one of the cool girls and likes to let you know it - lol you would think I knew them personally

ferrier · 23/10/2018 14:40

Well that's the end of my DriveTime listening then. To be honest I think I've tuned in twice since the format changed.

TheLastNigel · 24/10/2018 09:03

I love Coxy.

dontlikebeards · 24/10/2018 09:29

Another vote here for Sara Cox (or Mark Goodyear). Glad JW is going but will miss SM.

KitchenDancefloor · 29/10/2018 07:14

Sara Cox to present Radio 2 Drivetime show www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-46012177

Sara Cox will be the new presenter of Drivetime. I think that's a really good choice.

She has come into her own as a presenter in the past few years now that she has outgrown the whole 'ladette' schtick and embraces being a goofy 40-something parent (yes, I do relate to that!).

So that's radio 1 with Greg James on the way to work and Sara Cox on the way home for me.

They're both a good mix of warm and sarcastic and good at making listeners/callers part of the show.

maddiemookins16mum · 29/10/2018 07:19

I always found SM openly sarcastic to a lot of callers (mainly on a Friday when people phone in etc). Much prefer Sara Cox, she was my choice for taking over from Chris...me me me Evans.

GoatYoga · 29/10/2018 07:19

Absolutely cannot stand Sarah Cox - I find the “look how northern I am” act incredibly false and bloody irritatingly, looks like to will be Radio 4 on the way home from now.

I grew up in the same town as Sarah before anyone points out that she is fact from the north.

OscarWildesGreenCarnation · 29/10/2018 07:19

Yup, happy with Coxy doing Drivetime, although nothing would be so good as Simon Saladcream on his own, IMO. Ball(s) for brekkie, Cox for supper, who'd have thought it.... ShockGrin

HolyMountain · 29/10/2018 07:27

I love Sara .

Great personality for Drivetime.

Whisky2014 · 29/10/2018 07:34

I can't stand her. Lost a listemer

LoniceraJaponica · 29/10/2018 07:42

"Absolutely cannot stand Sarah Cox - I find the “look how northern I am” act incredibly false and bloody irritating"

I don't think it comes across as an act. I love her accent. It makes her sound warm and friendly. She is from Bolton so I don't think her accent is fake at all.

Maybe listeners who only like listening to RP accents will be irritated by her? I love regional accents and think the BBC should employ more presenters with local accents.

Thunderpunt · 29/10/2018 07:42

I'm delighted for her and for us as listeners. I used to love the original Drivetime with Simon and his gang, and just couldn't warm to Jo Whitley. I've caught Sara on Chris Evans show lately and have loved her. Great choice to replace Simon I think

wowfudge · 29/10/2018 07:51

I am delighted Sara will be presenting Drivetime. I really enjoy her radio shows and can identify with her. With Simon leaving, this is the best outcome imo. I'm not sure about Zoe in the Breakfast Show but I think I'll get used to her.

GoatYoga · 29/10/2018 08:08

@LoniceraJaponica as I said I’m from the same town - it’s all fake, I don’t know a single 40 something that sounds like she does. She is over egging being northern. It’s not cute or endearing, it’s bloody annoying - she still sounds like a 14 year old trying too hard to be cool.

belfastbosoms · 29/10/2018 11:48

Goat Yoga my SIL is from there too, and sounds pretty much the same as SC. I have never though of here as putting on a fake accent.

GoatYoga · 29/10/2018 17:53

The accent is a bit much, but it’s not the accent I take issue with (although I don’t know many people so heavily accented) - it is more the ‘look how northern I am’ act - the need to waffle on about pasties and use phrases I haven’t heard since the 80s - the BBC Facebook quote was “I couldn’t be more chuffed” - who the hell still uses the word “chuffed”?

It adds to the assumption by many that people from up north are a bit thick.

wowfudge · 29/10/2018 18:43

I hear people say "chuffed" regularly. She has a normal Bolton accent. I may not be a Bolton native but I am from somewhere nearby and I don't recognise Sara Cox as fake at all. If people assume northerners are thick then that's their issue as far as I'm concerned.

TanquerayTickles · 29/10/2018 19:17

I love Coxy and am so glad she's got Drive time as I've had no one I've wanted to listen to in the afternoons for ages. Moyles at Breakfast and Coxy at Drive time, perfect radio for me!

ShowOfHands · 29/10/2018 19:23

Sounds Normally Northern to me too. I say chuffed as do many people I know. It's okay not to like her however. Different strokes and all that.

I'm v pleased she's been given the slot.

TheLastNigel · 30/10/2018 10:50

Haha! I say chuffed all the time! An annoying amount probably. I live in the south and my southern colleagues love it!
