Simon Mayo Drivetime - Latest

Like many people, I've signed the petitions and complained to the BBC about the changes to the Simon Mayo Drivetime programme...or rather the complete decimation of it.

In the end, I wrote to Whistledown...the people who make the Radio 4 Feedback programme. They are the only ones to respond and they has said that the recent changes will be covered in their programme on Friday 15th. They want me to read out some of my complaint which of course I'm more than happy to do Grin.

So if you've given Jo Whiley and Simon Mayo Show time to 'settle in' (the BBC's words not mine) and still want the Drivetime show and team back, now may be the time to write to the Radio 4 Feedback programme. The links are:
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006slnx/contact
or
[email protected]

Please spread the word and see if we can get the Drivetime team back where they belong Smile

Yes, Vanessa Feltz's show yesterday was beyond acceptable with the racists. Funnily enough, my autocorrect has tried to turn racist into fascist. Very appropriate.

Coldhandscoldheart · 09/08/2018 07:33

Alan and Mel are awful ! Screeching laughter over nothing at all. For three hours! So that gets switched off. I’m sort of used to Simon and jo, but Ricky kaiser chiefs was terrible, so turned that off too.
I’d rather they’d kept homework instead of confessions tbh, that’s run it’s course & they’re just getting more and more made up.
I like Paul O’Grady, it’s a nice way to end a Sunday, and it seems as if everyone’s doing their ironing too which I quite like.

NicoAndTheNiners · 09/08/2018 07:34

Best thing on radio 2 is graham norton when he has his Saturday morning show on which sadly isn’t all year. I literally cry with laughter at least once per show.

annandale · 09/08/2018 07:36

I'm a recent Liza tarbuck addict Blush and never mind a bit of Ken or Whisperin Bob but otherwise R2 has gone weird. It just feels as if they're not at all sure who they are aiming at, though doubtless it's all based on expensive market research.

StoatOfManyColours · 09/08/2018 07:44

When I am in charge of the world, the following will happen:

Chris Evans: allowed to stay
Ken Bruce: gets the boot
Graham Norton: on every day please
Liza Tarbuck: on every day please
Steve Wright: fired into space and left there along with the rest of his witless colleagues
Simon Mayo: allowed to stay and will no longer be interfered with
Jo Whiley: put into a commune for people who smile too much on the radio. They think it makes them sound friendly but they sound like insufferable hippy shits
Mary Anne Hobbs: put into commune with Jo Whiley, that'll learn 'em both
Jezza Vine: no thank you
Lauren Laverne: stay on the radio please, and become my personal shopper
Mishal et al: as you were
Eddie Mair: don't leave meeeeeeeeeee! Unless you're replaced by Chris Mason, in which case I may stop sulking

ibblebibbledibble · 09/08/2018 07:45

Yes I love Liza tarbuck too. Try and listen every week.
I really enjoy the Paul ogrady show too.
Alan and Mel make me laugh but I think a summer stint is enough, graham norton is brilliant.
I have the drive time show on in the back ground, but really can’t stand jo whiley!

happystory · 09/08/2018 07:48

I need a like button stoat Grin

annandale · 09/08/2018 07:50

I used to like JW on her own show and in the evening. Like meeting a serious muso friend, brilliant in the right circumstances but you'd tend to avoid taking her to the pub with your workmates who think Madonna is challengingly modern music.

SequinsOnEverything · 09/08/2018 07:54

I never liked Simon mayo's show and find it slightly better with jo but not much. I did like last week with jo and Ricky Wilson more though.

TheLastNigel · 09/08/2018 07:56

Love Sara cox. I used to loathe her in her younger days but she is just so funny now.

Redact · 09/08/2018 07:58

This week JW and Ricky Wilson has been awful. Chris Evans as someone has already said is like listening to a hyperactive guy, definitely not what you need in the morning. Can't imagine radio 2 without Ken Bruce's show either. Steve Wright's 'little show' 'toons' and serious jockin no g (agh) not a fan although I like the non stop oldies slot. Sarah Cox I do like. They should give her Chris Evans show in the morning. Simon Mayo and drive time was my favourite, loved confessions, Nigel and his cooking, book club, Matt. The formula worked, why oh why did they change it. Please bring it back BBC!!

ResistanceIsNecessary · 09/08/2018 08:15

Love Coxy and wish she'd have the breakfast show permanently. I used to really like Chris in the morning slot in the early days but he sounds so full of himself now that it's just bloody irritating.

I also quite like Serious Jockin' (no 'g') although I realise that makes me a virtual pariah on MN Grin

The drivetime show needs to go back to what it was - if it ain't broke then don't fix it. The characters worked really well, Mayo is very good at handling calls and his sardonic humour stops it from being twee and boring.

Elaine 'hyuk hyuk' Paige is terrible. Cannot stand her as she seems to spend all of her time reading out fan mail that says how wonderful she is. Likewise Liza Tarbuck is awful.

I used to listen to R2 every day - breakfast, JV at lunch, the big show in the afternoon and Simon at 5. I can't remember the last time I switched it on.

VanillaSugar · 09/08/2018 08:32

Chris Evans became dead to me the day he ate a pie on air. I can't stand the sound of people eating.

Masticating. Eeeuuuurrrgggh!

BolleauxtoBankers · 09/08/2018 09:04

Sorry to derail thread, but @ ElspethTascioni, Eddie Mair is leaving the BBC, his last PM show will be on Friday 17th August. He will be starting at LBC in September.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 09/08/2018 09:14

Hardly listen to the radio now. Only good R2 presenters are Ken Bruce and Graham Norton, but I'm at work then so don't listen. Won't listen to R4 as it's so consumed by its own sense of superiority, and I won't support the overpaid John Humphreys when his colleagues are discrimated against. R3 is good but has no diversity whatsoever.

I rack up a playlist on my phone now.

WineIsMyCarb · 09/08/2018 09:25

Sara Cox for Breakfast show
Vanessa or Madeley for the Jeremy Vine slot
Fresh blood for the afternoon, apart from Friday for Serious Jockin for an hour or so
Driverime Dream Team
Then whatever weird jazz / new artists / ancient relics being tediously interviewed after 7pm

There you go R2 - fixed it for you.

Oh - and Chris Evans pay can be transferred directly over to S Cox, since that's the going rate for that job, and you treat men and women equally, right BBC?!

Takes a Bow

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 09/08/2018 09:28

SW sounded dated in the 80s. He's definitely got info on someone at the top!

I still miss Mark and Lard.

Whitney168 · 09/08/2018 09:41

Love Chris Evans' energy in the morning, I think the day he leaves the breakfast show may be the day I stop turning on the radio at all.

Sarah Cox makes me want to stab the radio a little less now she's stopped pronouncing everything 'gawjusssss' (aaaargh!), but apart from that the best I can say is that she gets me out of bed quicker.

Am really liking Vanessa, either on her own show or covering for Jeremy. (Jeremy does seem to have toned down his arguing black is white just for the sake of it, can listen to him.)

Elaine Paige and Liza Tarbuck are both fingernails down a blackboard to me, and who on earth said that Ken Bruce is effortlessly witty? - he is like the old unfunny uncle that everyone avoids at weddings.

LOVED the Simon Mayo show, and am still in mourning. It is clearly now the Jo Whiley show, with Simon allowed to talk occasionally. The music is all wrong for me too.

I suppose that all the above just goes to show that they're never going to please all of us anyway. Grin

LottaHogs · 09/08/2018 18:47

Can Fearne “I’ll just talk about myself and my children for the whole show” Cotton also be blasted off into the far side of nowhere please? She makes me want to pull my ears off. She’s just so awful on the radio, she turns everything into a chance to talk about herself.

I agree totally about SM and JW being a dreadful mistake and someone needs a kick up the jacksy.

Chris Evans is turning into a shouty idiot who gets everything wrong.

Sarah Cox, Graham Norton, Lisa Tarbuck are fab. Trevor Nelson has a very nice voice.

BolleauxtoBankers · 10/08/2018 12:19

If anyone's interested, I've just found out that Eddie Mair's last broadcast of PM was unexpectedly on Wednesday of this week.

Whitney168 · 10/08/2018 13:09

Love Graham Norton - roll on him coming back from summer break and get those two banshees off Saturday morning radio.

Muffinbutton · 11/08/2018 21:14

Ricky Wilson has been the nail in the coffin for Radio 2 for me. Totally the wrong person to stand in for SM.

ShackUp · 11/08/2018 21:17

bolleaux ShockShockShock

KitchenDancefloor · 23/10/2018 12:14

Well, well, well.

The listeners and MN were right. Simon Mayo is leaving R2 and Jo Whiley is going back to her evening slot.

Guesses on who will get Drivetime now?

I'd like Sara Cox please.

myfatarse · 23/10/2018 12:34

Seeing as Sara wont be doing the breakfast show :( she can do the drivetime :)

Sara! Sara! Sara!
