To think Love Island is immensely skanky and shallow

What is the point of a reality show where the sole purpose is to exhbit the morals of an alley cat and get it on with complete strangers in order to win.

I do not understand why it's so popular. It's just a load of wannabes.

Fab, so the bar is set if you don't have sex on TV.

These people go in with the sole intention of getting together with someone they've never met in order to make money.

In day to day life that's called prostitution or at least escorting.

I love it!

Shoxfordian · 06/06/2018 22:16

Yeah thats one way of looking at it. I don't have a moral problem with Love Island. Some of the contestants probably only go on to win the money but I think the girls particularly are often looking for a relationship

If it's not for you though then there's a simple solution op, watch something else or turn the tv off

Shoxfordian · 06/06/2018 22:17

Ha
I'm not challenged in intellect or dignity.
Thanks though Hmm

Beaverhausen · 06/06/2018 22:18

Amen!

bearbehind · 06/06/2018 22:18

I don't watch it.

I've seen trailers whilst watching other programmes and genuinely don't understand how something so vacuous can be so popular.

Oh god it's just awful. Absolute car crash tv.

I don't watch it but it's EVERYWHERE on social media, even This Morning was arse licking the show today. I find myself involuntarily cringing even hearing the title.

Shoxfordian · 06/06/2018 22:20

If you don't watch it then you really shouldn't comment because you've never seen it. How do you know you don't like it?

MedicinalGin · 06/06/2018 22:20

It’s shite but, then again, so is white bread and also party rings- it’s such a guilty pleasure and fodder for small talk at school gates / in staff rooms / at supermarket checkouts up and down Britain for the next six weeks.

You can always cancel it out by watching something worthy and turgid on bbc4 straight afterwards Grin

Luisa27 · 06/06/2018 22:21

I decided to watch it for the first time last night because I felt I couldn’t criticise something I hadn’t seen. It was worse than expected. It’s just drivel

HyacinthsBucket70 · 06/06/2018 22:23

My DDs are obsessed with it. I'm just horrified at how much surgery/cosmetic procedures such young women have had to be honest. Not one of those girls is how they were born. I can't see what's sexy about looking like a plastic barbie myself.

Neverender · 06/06/2018 22:24

They live in a world where you can 'swipe right' if you don't like someone, or completely ignore three rectangle and ghost them if you were talking shite last night. They can't get away with that now and they have to form semi long-lasting relationships. It's mesmerising just for that. Sorry!

Neverender · 06/06/2018 22:24

Not three rectangles but ignore their calls

UserV · 06/06/2018 22:25

LOL don't watch it then.

All the people on there are doing fine and no-one is forcing them to do it.

TatianaLarina · 06/06/2018 22:26

I watched it last year. It was highly entertaining. Preferred it to BB which was a lot more skanky tho less soft porny.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/06/2018 22:26

Meh, watching it for the first time this year. So far it seems funny and daft and fairly harmless.

I imagine there's more shagging going on in freshers week at your average Russell group uni.

midsomermurderess · 06/06/2018 22:36

'Morals of an alley cat'. I've been seeing that quite a bit on here recently. Has a rather 1950s ring to it.

InspirationUnavailable · 06/06/2018 22:36

I started watching last night with my teen and I can see why it’s compelling for them - it’s really just people watching with a bit of snogging.

What did irritate me though was that all the “boys” seemed to have more to them than the “girls”, who seemed to be chosen purely for their bikini bodies and seemed to actively dumb themselves down. Maybe the show is self selecting, but it did send the message that men can be articulate, intelligent and still be attractive whilst women’s only worth is in their looks. Not the message I want to be sending my daughter.

(Also it is all relative - none of the men appear exactly like Einstein but are portrayed as having a bit more to them).

faceremovinghaircream · 06/06/2018 22:36

It is mesmerising, in a kind of going to the zoo way, looking at the strange creatures you wouldn't usually mix with.
The, like, stupidity and, like, shallowness is like, totally beyond belief.

RoseWhiteTips · 06/06/2018 22:39

One of the new “girls” is a lawyer. However, she appears as valid as the rest. The doctor guy is bland bland bland and pink.

RoseWhiteTips · 06/06/2018 22:39

*vapid

RoseWhiteTips · 06/06/2018 22:41

It is horribly compelling. Watched it last night for the first time ever and now I am hooked.

sigh

FreeMantle · 06/06/2018 22:42

I don't think sexually it's any different to any Uni anywhere either.

I like the concept of stick or twist with their partners.

Where it falls down is that they are all identical. Same looks driven personality, same banter, same motivation for entering ( money and fame).

I say do a lock in at the First Dates Abroad hotel!

NumbersLetters · 06/06/2018 22:44

I'm watching it because it seems to be helping me bond with my DD. It's much more engaging than i expected.

WereAllBladesArentWe · 06/06/2018 22:47

YANBU. I saw two pigeons eating some sick in Market Square here in Notts today and found that more entertaining than the episode and a half I have seen.
Mind you, will probably be gripped within a fortnight. There's nothing else on!
