AIBU to ask what time your baby goes to bed

Our DS is 8mo, he goes to be around 7.30-8 but wakes up a lot in the night. Wondering if I'd be better putting him to bed later or earlier (I'm not sure how this would help, but would love a better nights sleep for all of us!)

Dc1 goes to bed at 7 ( bath then bottle) so asleep around 730

NoNoCharlieRascal · 06/06/2018 17:26

Ds 11 months goes between 8-10 depending on naps in the day.

hiptobeasquare · 06/06/2018 17:27

My 2 year old goes to bed at 7 and my 12 week old goes to bed at 8 (downstairs in a Moses basket until we go up to bed as well, then we carry her to our room).

Spudnick · 06/06/2018 17:28

My DD almost 8 months old she goes to bed between 7 and 8 and sleep through until 8-9am

Lindah1 · 06/06/2018 17:30

11 month old goes around 830, wakes at 6 then goes back to sleep until 730.

Happygummibear · 06/06/2018 17:31

9mo old goes to bed anywhere between 7.30 and 8.30 depending on when she looks tired. She doesn't sleep through and hasn't done since about 4 months.

I have had a few nights of sleeping through usually after teeth have broken... I have tried various routines and nothing seems to work.

Lana1234 · 06/06/2018 17:32

9mo goes to bed about 8. Wakes up once during the night then up for the day at 7am.

PenApple · 06/06/2018 17:34

10mo 5-5.30pm & generally sleeps through to 4.30-5.30am. Even if he goes to bed at 7.30 he still wakes as early.

PinkSuitcases · 06/06/2018 17:38

11 months, goes to bed 7.15, normally one wakeup (straight to sleep as soon as we pick her up for a cuddle), wakes at 6.45ish.

At 8 months he did the same, took some gentle sleep training to get there (And night weaning) but was best for everyone as we all got more sleep and are therefore much happier!

interuptus · 06/06/2018 17:42

17 mo dd goes to bed at 9 or 10pm. If earlier she becomes wakeful after 2am so I'd rather give her a later night.

Thesearmsofmine · 06/06/2018 17:45

At that age ds3 was going down at about 6.30, waking once in the night at which point we popped him into bed with us.

whoopsiedaisies · 06/06/2018 18:15

@Spudnick what's your secret?!

DS has bath, book and last feed between 7-8pm when he looks tired. It then takes me and sometimes DH roughly an hour to put him in his cot without him waking up and crying and needing a rock or a feed back to sleep.
Some nights are good and he will wake up once or twice before me and DH go to bed at 11ish, and then once or twice more until he wakes at 7am.
Other nights are awful and we bring him back down as he just won't settle in his cot, and again he wakes up two or three more times before waking up raring to go at 7am.

I'm sure I heard that babies sleep through at some point!

2.5 yr old and 6mo both go to bed at 7pm and wake at 7:30am

Spudnick · 06/06/2018 18:20

Hi OP when she was younger her bedtime was 9 then I reduced it to 7-8 she didn't start sleeping through until about 5 and a half month. She has 1-2 naps a day, I have always put her in her cot awake so she falls asleep on her own. I just got lucky and got a baby who sleeps haha

TittyGolightly · 06/06/2018 18:22

At that age mine was doing midnight till noon.

Ceecee18 · 06/06/2018 19:10

DD (10 months old) goes to bed at 8:30 and wakes at 7:30. She was doing 7-7 at 7 months, then started waking multiple times, for up to an hour and a half each time at 9 months. Read somewhere online to try putting her to bed an hour later and it worked, she sleeps through again now.

Apart from last night when she wouldn't fall asleep until half 10.

walkingwithmyeyeswideshut · 06/06/2018 19:12

3 month old. 9pm to 7/8am..no night feed. Bottle and back to sleep till around 10am..been like this a Month or so. Minus the odd waking night

cherrryontop · 06/06/2018 19:14

In my experience it makes no difference what time they are put to bed. They wake up as and when they want Grin

My 9 month old goes to bed at 7, wakes at 6, and often wakes once of twice in the night for a cuddle or dummy.

TheSheepofWallSt · 06/06/2018 19:15

Almost 2 year is in bed by 7.30 and asleep by 8.
Wakes between 5 and 7 - and frequent night wakings...

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 06/06/2018 19:18

Almost 13 months, goes to bed at 6 and wakes around 6.30 but will drift off for an hour or two if I bring her in to my bed. A later bed time doesn't make a difference she still wakes up at the same time. Wakes a couple of times for her dummy.

butlerswharf · 06/06/2018 19:19

My 10 month old goes to bed at 7. Do whatever works and try earlier or later if you fancy it.

Lazypuppy · 06/06/2018 19:44

5mo goes to bed between 7-8 and we put her down awake after bath and milk. She wakes once around 5am for feed then straight back in cot awake and she settles back to sleep until 10am ish

Bambamber · 06/06/2018 19:48

At that age DD went to bed anytime between 8 and 9 but would wake hourly. She would only wake for a quick feed then go straight back to sleep

Somersetlady · 06/06/2018 19:50

Both ours are asleep by 7 everynight since they were tiny. Now 2 and 4.

Sometimes if they are really tired, woke early (6.30 (ish) or have had a very busy day they will be asleep for 6.30pm.

Smarshian · 06/06/2018 20:02

My 17 month old has slept 7-6 since about 6-7 months. I would suggest you do not bring baby back downstairs- ever. Bedtime is bedtime and an option of getting back up is exciting.
Also how is he feeding in the day? Is he still having milk at night? Night weaning really helped for us.
