All the 'posh' fishcakes with salmon have either a) cheese - no or b) that revolting 'saucy' centre which makes me boak.

Which supermarket does a good quality, chunky, salmon or smoked fish fishcake without extra bollocks??

Sainsburys? They do some chunky cod and salmon ones in the fridge bit but you do have to hunt for the ones with no sauce centre.

Make them? If you use ready made mash from the fridge in most supermarkets it makes them a lot quicker

I detest cheese and I cannot eat parkey sauce. I also dislike the taste of lemon. I just want a good quality (high fish content) cod fishcake (sorry I don't like salmon)

Actually it was making the mash that was putting me off making them but I THINK I have some frozen mash that noone likes in the freezer

I guess some people find them dry? I'm not a fan; I prefer not-breaded fish and my potato on the side (aka chips!!!), but I think m&s is your friend:

I do have to say when the kids were little & I was on maternity leave at home I made my own fish cakes & they were lovely.

Frozen mash and tinned tuna makes pretty decent low effort fishcakes. Add grated lemon rind, parsley and a spoonful of mayo (yes, that's right), chill and form into patties and fry.

I wish I liked tuna. It's so healthy. Stupid tastebuds.

Morrisons smoked haddock fish cakes don't have cheese in them.

YANBU! I'm allergic to cheese and people keep recommending the 'melt in the middle' ones to me (on slimming world). Anyone know of any other good ones?

YABU, love those saucy fishcakes. However, last time I was in the Coop they had some posh dry ones. They were alright.

Tesco do a really nice Thai inspired prawn fishcake in their Finest range - and they also have non-sauce fish cakes with salmon (food of the devil) smoked haddock or cod as the fish.

I bought some from M&S deli, they were delicious until I got to the abomination that was in the middle. Gross.

Tesco do Taste the Difference fishcakes without ruining them with internal pus. They're OK.

I agree. Morrisons used to do a lovely range but now they mostly have cheesy sauce in them. Yuck. They did lovely thai prawn ones but I am not sure if they still do them.
