Morrisons and Waitrose I am looking at you!

All the 'posh' fishcakes with salmon have either a) cheese - no or b) that revolting 'saucy' centre which makes me boak.

Which supermarket does a good quality, chunky, salmon or smoked fish fishcake without extra bollocks??

I think you'd be best making your own OP. I've a few they're disappointing. The last lot of salmon fish cakes I had were Tesco finest but wouldn't get them again. I tell you what is nice, their salmon wellington, delicious.

YABU. Saucy Fish Co's Smoked Haddock and Cheddar fishcakes are AMAZING.
As are the Salmon and Cod Hollandaise actually.

God I'm hungry now.

Gretol · 06/06/2018 12:39

maybe I'll just make them

I had some lovely ones from Morrisons (who seem excellent for fish generally) now the only taste the difference ones without pus have fricking cheese or even worse chorizo in them.

Tesco do a really nice Thai inspired prawn fishcake in their Finest range - and they also have non-sauce fish cakes with salmon (food of the devil) smoked haddock or cod as the fish.

I second this, in fact I’m having the prawn fishcakes for my dinner tonight Grin

Oogle · 06/06/2018 12:45

Tesco. Although I prefer the normal range fishcakes rather than the Finest range. The smoked haddock one is delicious!

I like the morrisons salmon and broccoli frozen fish cakes. I have only bought them online though.

ToadOfSadness · 06/06/2018 12:51

I don't like all the stuff they add to them either, including lemon and parsley and especially dill which tastes like mould.

I saw someone make really simple ones on TV once, just poached fish, potatoes microwaved in skins then scraped out, mixed together, possibly with some milk or butter added to hold them together and fried, no breadcrumbs or anything. They looked really good, nice chunky bits in them as the potatoes were crushed rather than made into a pulp.

Have meant to try them for a while but have now given up fish.

OP, you are so right. What kind of lunatic likes these sick-in-a-fishcake abominations? Fortunately, the frozen section is your friend. These ones from Ocado/Waitrose are nice.

QuestionableMouse · 06/06/2018 12:58

If you have a local wet fish shop they'll probably sell them. The one in my home town does delicious fishcakes!

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 06/06/2018 12:59

ASDA do Cod and Chorizo

The Lidl Cheesy ones are mint

maras2 · 06/06/2018 13:00

Use Tesco frozen mash.
It's fab.

DinaCaliente · 06/06/2018 13:00

If you haven't got frozen mash to make your own, do a baked potato in the microwave and let it cool a bit and then scrape it out.

Did this with a tin of pink salmon, spring onion, dill and an egg and they were yummy.
