to ask if anyone knows how to make doughuts like the ones you get at the seaside?!

I have googled. They all seem to be proper dough that you roll out and deep fat fry, but im sure at the sea side it looks like a wetter mixture that just drops out of a machine?

has anyone made doughnuts like this?!

thanks!

Do you mean churros?

MurielsBottom · 05/06/2018 13:44

We used a recipe from the BBC website and they turned out fab. The dough was quite soft but not as funny as the ones you see at the seaside. They certainly tasted as good.

flamingofridays · 05/06/2018 13:55

not churros no, but looking at that recipe possibly v similar?

I will have a go at those, and also look at the BBC website Muriel

There is just something about seaside doughnuts that is so much nicer than your average shop bought one. (though that could the the surroundings and also the fact you eat them when they're hot!!)

I have no idea how to make them but the doughnuts I bought at Warwick Castle were the best 'seaside' doughnuts I had ever had!!!

JustLikeBefore · 05/06/2018 14:23

I think you mean doughnut batter OP.

I use to think the same as you as we lived on the coast. I pretty sure when I asked about it, it turned out that it is batter, same as pancake, Yorkshire pudding and fish batter, just slight changes in amounts of ingredients, so more floor to make a thicker consistency.

I've made them at home once, they were nice, but not as good as bought ones, so probably need to tweek the recipe a bit.

I feel the same about seaside chips. Why are they so much better and saltier...?

flamingofridays · 05/06/2018 15:17

thank you that seems more like it!!

I think I have all the ingredients for that so I might have a go tonight!!

I agree about the chips they are always better too!

I like the recipe in the second link, and am now thinking of buying the homemade pancake, doughnut dispenserGrin

flamingofridays · 05/06/2018 15:31

yes me too!

I tried the second " batter" recipe.

it was a disaster! they were so crispy on the outside and my first attempt was raw in the middle.

when I did manage to cook one through the texture was just all wrong, think maybe my batter needed to be thinner.

think I will have another go soon or maybe try the other recipe!

Your oil needs to be very hot (and be old i.e. used for months)

Tink2007 · 06/06/2018 15:00

Warwick castle and Chessington both do “seaside” doughnuts. Very yummy.

sueelleker · 06/06/2018 15:41

Has anyone made doughnuts in an air-fryer instead of a deep-fat fryer?

flamingofridays · 06/06/2018 15:49

Ah my oil was new!

I don't really fry anything because I have an actifry so it all gets thrown in there.

I have not tried to make doughnuts in an air fryer, but the recipes I looked at yesterday, the ones that were more solid dough, I don't see why you couldn't do it. Not sure the outside texture would be the same!

oh no, that's a shame flamingo

Maybe the fat was too hot? or just give the recipie agoSmile

jamoncrumpets · 06/06/2018 16:54

Seaside doughnuts are THE BEST. They may be partly the reason why I convinced DH to move to the seaside this year...

icecreamcrackers · 06/06/2018 17:24

It is a wet mixture I make them from my catering trailer. You need a cake based mix not a yeast base

icecreamcrackers · 06/06/2018 17:26

Also up thread the oil most defiantly does not need to be old that's disgusting and it needs to be around 190

Thesearmsofmine · 06/06/2018 17:27

I love hot doughnuts at the seaside, they are my favourite seaside treat.

Wearelocal · 06/06/2018 17:30

They taste so great because you are at the seaside...

icecreamcrackers · 06/06/2018 17:31

Just leaving these here :) these are what I make ;p
