Aibu that this little saying that's crept in and dropped its 'off' gives me a mini rage

'Aibu to be pissed at dp'....

'I'm so pissed with Mil'....

'So pissed that dc won't eat their greens'....

It's OFF

At least we haven't got round to pronouncing 'mirror' as 'mi-ur'. That makes me want to rip my own ears off.

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 10:15

'would get over this already.'

'Already'

NO

Yes, language evolves and yes some of the changes are brought about by exposure to American culture. But gosh, think of how rotten Britain has been purposefully trying to destroy languages around the world from Wales to Ireland to India and you're now complaining about the lack of a preposition.

Word

NC4Now · 05/06/2018 10:18

Agreed.

If I say I’m pissed, I’ve been on the ale.
Otherwise I’m pissed off.

YesBarry · 05/06/2018 10:19

IF you want to get realy wound up I suggest listening to the hunger games on audio book.

"She went out and collected the urbs" ARGH! It is HERBS!

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 10:19

Glad it's not me

Who just won't get over it 'already'

Your choice, but you look like an utter twat (american version) complaining about it

RoseWhiteTips · 05/06/2018 10:21

It’s language contamination from the US.

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 10:21

I'd say more

Ass hole personally

OP posts:
RoseWhiteTips · 05/06/2018 10:22

“...over this already” is actually nonsense.

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 10:24

I'm pissed already

Is perfectly acceptable though in Marthas's dictionary GrinGin

Typical privileged position of posting in in AIBU and then calling people ass hole [sic] when they are told they are in fact being U

RoseWhiteTips · 05/06/2018 10:26

pencilSharpenerer

As a linguist I'm supposed to not get annoyed by changing languages and instead simply observe them.

Okaay. Is that why you’re happy to split the infinitive? Or was that a test?

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 10:27

Just saying I personally preferred to be an Ass Hole than a Twat.

I actually prefer 'Asss hoooole'

OP posts:

Americans using it= totally fine
British people using it= Hmm

And also the 'mac 'n' cheese'. I saw a thread using that the other day, and intrigued, I queried it. I was advised that it was American. Oh, well that's fine then Hmm. And no I don't think everyone using it on the thread in question was American.

DH has been known to use 'waiting ON' something' and also 'reach out' (he is not in the Four Tops, no). But he works for an American firm and spends time over there so I put it down to that.

RoseWhiteTips · 05/06/2018 10:29

Is it fair to blame Americans for the rising inflection, though? Aren’t Aussies the real culprits?

RoseWhiteTips · 05/06/2018 10:30

Ass hoooole as in Meet the Fockers!?

weedoogie · 05/06/2018 10:31

I hate their use of "of" - as in "it's not that big of a deal". In the UK we say "it's not that big a deal". There's no bloody "of" required....

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 10:31

Oh Rose

I knew you wouldn't let me down Grin

Strugglingtodomybest · 05/06/2018 10:33

Oh this annoys the shit out of me. Or should that be, this annoys the shit? I mean, why bother finishing any sentence?

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 10:33

Schnitzel

Now I'm just hearing Father Jack

RoseWhiteTips · 05/06/2018 10:33

Ah gotten. It used to be used long long ago by “Brits”. We stopped; they carried on. Now sounds sloppy.

pbjs · 05/06/2018 10:34

YABU

If you are determined to keep your language pure you might want to go back undo all the colonization which spread English everywhere and then undo the internet which brought it back in it's "unpure" form.

Language evolves, getting a mini rage becasue something sounds like it came from another country is a bit shit really.

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 10:34

Struggling

As long as you ain't gonna 'lose your shit'

Just another gem I've seen on here....
