Aibu that this little saying that's crept in and dropped its 'off' gives me a mini rage

'Aibu to be pissed at dp'....

'I'm so pissed with Mil'....

'So pissed that dc won't eat their greens'....

It's OFF

I persuaded the people who run the Parliamentary website to change

The House of [whichever] does not sit on weekends

to

The House of [whichever] does not sit at weekends

I would have preferred at the weekend but we do today what we can do today.

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 12:06

Andrew

I feel a satisfying glow reading that

Yes, pants, fannies & bums...

There is quite a bit of room for confusion there.

ShellyBoobs · 05/06/2018 18:07

It goes with “Can I get a ” and speaking with a rising inflection, as if every statement is a question, in helping you to spot fuckwits."

Or, indeed, Australians. Were you meaning to be so xenophobic as to imply that all Australians are fuckwits

Of course. I mean, my post was clearly aimed squarely at Australians, wasn't it?

And why are you implying that all Australians speak as if everything is a question?

They don't. I know several Australians very well (in fact I used to go out with one) and none of them did.

RoseWhiteTips · 05/06/2018 18:15

Andrewofgg

Most impressive - unlike their original version.

springbluebells · 05/06/2018 18:32

I thought you were telling us you were pissed as in one too many vinos! I love threads like this... chin chin!

RoseWhiteTips · 05/06/2018 18:42

Lol

NC4Now · 05/06/2018 19:08

Also: when did the plural of fish become fishes?

I almost lost my shit at a sign in the Natural History Museum pointing to the fishes.

One fish, two FISH, aquarium full of FISH.

lottiegarbanzo · 05/06/2018 19:13

Fishes is Biblical - 'bread and fishes'. I think both fish and fishes are acceptable.

TheIcon · 05/06/2018 19:20

A few months back, I was listening to a podcast and heard two Americans (both with Germanic surnames - this is important) pronounce Reuters as "Rooters"

Fucking idiots. Although I imagine they "could care less" about my opinion.

Fucking idiots again.

MarthasGinYard · 05/06/2018 19:28

Today I'm mostly just feeling pissed in general.

YANBU

PopGoesTheWeaz · 05/06/2018 21:07

actually, if you are referring to different species of fish, the plural is fishes. Always has been.

WeAllLiveInACoffeeMachine · 05/06/2018 21:10

At least we haven't got round to pronouncing 'mirror' as 'mi-ur'. That makes me want to rip my own ears off.

@WeAllLiveInACoffeeMachine

I love that Grin I’m glad many other people find it annoying too.

For any South Park fans, for the longest time I thought there was a character called Kreg which turned out to be Craig. Since then I have noticed other American people pronounce it Kreg as well.

smashhits90s · 05/06/2018 21:57

I'm Scotland, when your pissed, alcohol is involved.

Pissed and pished both mean drunk but can also mean heavy rain.

RoseWhiteTips · 05/06/2018 23:26

Rip my own ears off! Love it.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 06/06/2018 04:25

Good for you, Shelly!
I live in Australia.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/06/2018 06:48

And of course the mixing of adjectives and adverbs - often by missing off the “ly”. No longer is it “really cold” today, it’s “real cold”. I even caught myself saying something incorrectly the other day. .

MrsDilber · 06/06/2018 06:51

Yanbu. It is pissed off. Pissed means drunk to me, "I'm drunk that my kids won't eat their greens". Maybe that person was so enraged at their children's lack of vegetable eating compliance, that they needed to hit the bottle??

LanguidLobster · 06/06/2018 06:52

Mummy yep I always mentally slap myself when I say something wrong

Housemum · 06/06/2018 17:37

It was years before I realised Mac & cheese was a pasta dish - I assumed it was a burger with cheese, the Mac being macdonalds!

DeniseRoyal · 06/06/2018 17:47

YANBU Being 'pissed' at someone is an americanism. I really detest american sayings. 'Awesome' is another one. Fuck right off and use proper british words!!

MarthasGinYard · 06/06/2018 17:50

Glad it's not just me.

Or I'd have been 'pissed' with you lot
