Argh! Had sex on Saturday and used the withdrawal method. Just checked my dates and I would have been at my most fertile - day 12.
I really, really don't want to get the MAP, I hate the thought of it but I really don't want to be pregnant. Anyone ever got pregnant from withdrawal? I'm in my late 30's.

I've taken the risk before & been fine.

However, the last time I did it.....I fell pregnant

WittyJack · 04/06/2018 19:48

Look, it's irrelevant what has happened to other people. Your body is unique. Any unprotected penetration can technically result in pregnancy.

You only have 72 hours to take it, and its effectiveness lessens the longer you wait.

You need to decide which you want less: the MAP or pregnancy.

Fwiw the MAP doesn't make most people ill like it used to years ago.

53rdWay · 04/06/2018 19:49

Depends when the withdrawing happened I suppose. But if you really don’t want to be pregnant, the morning after pill will improve your odds. You’ll need to take it soon, though - it won’t work after you’ve ovulated.

What is it about the pill that you don’t like?

Threefaries · 04/06/2018 19:50

I’m sat breastfeeding the result of withdrawal, supposedly not in fertile period. I was in my late thirties when he was conceived.

Want2bSupermum · 04/06/2018 19:50

Heck I got pregnant using the pill, condoms and withdrawal method. If you don't want a baby take the MAP ASAP.

barleyfive · 04/06/2018 19:50

The pull out method isn't always effective, if you don't want to risk pregnancy what is stopping you taking the morning after pill? It is a lot better than the heatbreak of making a tough decision a few weeks down the line or having a baby you do not want? Confused

Want2bSupermum · 04/06/2018 19:51

Just be aware that the MAP I was given only works if you have not yet ovulated. My map didn't work because I had already ovulated.

UtterlyDesperate · 04/06/2018 19:51

It's called Vatican Roulette for a reason, op - if you really don't want to be pregnant, MAP is the best way now of trying to ensure you aren't.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 04/06/2018 19:52

What is it about MAP that you hate the thought of? I took it years ago and it made me puke, but better that than being pregnant...

Shakirasma · 04/06/2018 19:53

You need to choose what bothers you most, taking the pill or ending up pregnant?

If you really don't want to be pregnant like you say though, perhaps you should make contraception a higher priority in future?

mbunno · 04/06/2018 19:58

I've been using the pull out method for 4 years and never got pregnant. We've even had accidents and still no. You're 99% fine if you did it properly.

Sidalee7 · 04/06/2018 20:01

I haven't taken it since my late teens and I remember it making me feel awful and screwing up my cycle.
I know it's preferable to being pregnant though.
And yes, I should make contraception more of a priority but no condoms/a lot of wine made me feel invincible (until the morning) Confused

ReallyWTF · 04/06/2018 20:03

MAP turned me into a psycho bitch.

Bombardier25966 · 04/06/2018 20:03

More awful than an unwanted pregnancy?

Sidalee7 · 04/06/2018 20:03

And without being TMI I think I had already ovulated....

OP posts:
toriatoriatoria · 04/06/2018 20:04

Like others have said... You need to think about which one you want less, the MAP or a pregnancy?

Sidalee7 · 04/06/2018 20:06

I don't want to be pregnant. But I want to weigh up the risks.

For example - if I have a 2% chance of being pregnant vs the MAP being 70% effective iyswim?

RubberJohnny · 04/06/2018 20:06

The copper coil is still suitable, non hormonal, and won't make make you feel awful.

steff13 · 04/06/2018 20:07

Anyone ever got pregnant from withdrawal?

About 22 women out of 100 according to Planned Parenthood. It's really only a method I would use if I didn't care whether I got pregnant or not. There are lots of other more reliable methods that aren't the pill.

formerbabe · 04/06/2018 20:08

The coil can also be used as emergency contraception.

Sidalee7 · 04/06/2018 20:08

@rubberjohnny - is it painful to have fitted?
The pill doesn't suit me at all.

OP posts:
mirime · 04/06/2018 20:09

Sidalee the first time I took it (in 1998/9) it made me feel awful. Took it again about 11 years ago and it was fine.

RomeoBunny · 04/06/2018 20:09

The MAP just prevents any egg from sticking, so to speak. Nothing else Hmm

DameLillyTillicut · 04/06/2018 20:09

What about MAP do you hate the thought of? I've taken it many times Blush it's given me nausea a few times but nothing like pregnancy did.

Crabbitstick · 04/06/2018 20:10

Around 6 million sperm get released before a man ejaculates.
Having to deal with an unwanted pregnancy is going to be so much worse than MAP.
