AIBU for disliking Brie...

So, due to a ridiculously wonderful very over catered family event I find myself in possession of a whole wheel of Brie (an half a wheel of Stilton but that’s a whole other thread...) . And I don’t really like it (at least raw? Which I think is only way I’ve had it? What can I do with it? Can I cook it? What recipies work? Or is it food of devil?

It's lovely with bacon and cranberry sauce on a panini.

MyKingdomForBrie · 04/06/2018 16:59

YABVVVU!! Grin

Brie and grape sandwiches on fresh bread... mmmmmm

Wolfiefan · 04/06/2018 16:59

Share it with me. Grin

MaxPepsi · 04/06/2018 17:01

It's bloody lovely stuff.

I would suggest baking it and having it with crusty bread.

On toast is also good.

Fruitbat1980 · 04/06/2018 17:02

Like cheese on toast under the grill? (As I write this I realise it’s a stupid question, probably, but I don’t know my way around Brie)

Brie and grape? In a sandwich? Are you mad? With or without butter and green or red? My mum told me to get it out and rest it before I eat it? Wtf? Is she kidding me?

YABU, Brie was most certainly sent from the cheese gods and should be fully appreciated by all. I’m sad that I can’t have any atm due to pregnancy!

Fruitbat1980 · 04/06/2018 17:05

@jammycustard Shock

YABU. Brie is my favourite but I’m pregnant Envy.
Yes definitely rest it before eating. It should be gooey and oozy, not cold and hard.
I like it melted into a baguette with crispy bacon.

Bobbiepin · 04/06/2018 17:06

@jammycustard that is hysterical.

OP, slice off the top, push in garlic cloves and fresh rosemary and bake in the oven then use French bread to dip in and scoop out the delicious yummyness.

Loopytiles · 04/06/2018 17:06

Get a load of crackers, some grapes and take to work?

MikeUniformMike · 04/06/2018 17:06

You don't eat it straight from the fridge and as it's quite creamy you don't need butter.

BabyMoonPie · 04/06/2018 17:09

Try a brie and apple sauce sandwich

MildlyFedUp · 04/06/2018 17:09

Brie should never be in the fridge in my opinion. I love it almost runny, with green grapes or the other serving suggestions upthread.

But I don't think you would like it anyway, you sound quite closed minded regarding food! In my experience people like that rarely discover new food they like beyond childhood.

raidthefridge · 04/06/2018 17:09

YABVVU. I can't even try and talk you through this. You are beyond help.

MyKingdomForBrie · 04/06/2018 17:10

No butter needed but you could have it if you wanted. Rested definitely and (this is controversial) I cut the rind off for sandwiches. Red or green grapes, both are nice!

In my student days I have been known to just keep making sandwiches til i’d run out of bread or Brie..

funmummy48 · 04/06/2018 17:11

Thinly sliced in a Margharita pizza. Wonderful!

funmummy48 · 04/06/2018 17:12

On a pizza.....Not in it!!

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/06/2018 17:12

Eat if with a sweet chutney of your choice - with any luck you won't be able to taste it.

ShotsFired · 04/06/2018 17:12

Brie and bacon
Brie and chutney
Brie in slices
Baked brie
Brie on jacket potatoes
Brie toasties
etc

I love brie. I can only buy it in little portions or I'll have the lot.

PuppetOnAString · 04/06/2018 17:14

On crackers, I don’t like this grape or cranberry sauce business though.

Or melt it in the oven and dip as a pp suggested.

It has to be soft, keep it out the fridge before you eat it. Oh I love it.

Or, send it my way!

Theweasleytwins · 04/06/2018 17:14

My friend mentioned cooked Brie with bread to dip in yesterday. I started crying 😅

I'm pregnant and super sad I can't eat Brie at the moment😅😅😅

JohnnyKarate · 04/06/2018 17:15

Yes you are.

mrsnec · 04/06/2018 17:15

I think it's nice in a toastie. Has to be brown bread and no grapes, apple or cranberry sauce, beetroot would be my choice.
