AIBU for disliking Brie...

So, due to a ridiculously wonderful very over catered family event I find myself in possession of a whole wheel of Brie (an half a wheel of Stilton but that’s a whole other thread...) . And I don’t really like it (at least raw? Which I think is only way I’ve had it? What can I do with it? Can I cook it? What recipies work? Or is it food of devil?

You need to leave it out of the fridge for 1/2 hour for it to go lovely in the middle😍

I loved rice with Brie in when I was bf

Oh dear tearing up again😑

Fruitbat1980 · 04/06/2018 17:18

Hmm I am game for trying it in a toastie, also runny to dip bread. I am honestly not normally scared of cheese. Just Brie. It’s so enormous! And I’m normally a mature cheddar girl....

Well, I'll be the lone voice saying its devil's food then!

Taking it into work (on a Friday you aren't working, as it will reek by the end of the day) with some crackers and grapes seems to be the best bet for its disposal!

Fruitbat1980 · 04/06/2018 17:20

@theweasleytwins like a risotto???

I love it with tomato and basil in a baguette. Or a sandwich, but it's best with a really good baguette.

It's also nice in tarts and pies. I'll see if I can find a recipe.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 04/06/2018 17:26

My favourite is just Brie and cherry tomatoes. Lay the tomatoes on a ready rolled puff pastry sheet (prick it with a fork and mark out a little border first) then plonk slices of Brie on top and bake it for maybe 20 mins.

funmummy48 · 04/06/2018 17:29

Yes, Brie & pepperoni is a great combination!😉

Dancingtothebeat · 04/06/2018 17:33

Have a cheese and wine party. And tell attendees they need to bring the wine.

You offload the cheese and get pissed for free.

Sorted. Wine

DwangelaForever · 04/06/2018 17:35

Chicken Bacon and Brie panini is amazingly heavenly, if you can get a nice chutney or salsa on it then even better!

Deep fried Brie is the food of the gods 🤤🤤

DwangelaForever · 04/06/2018 17:39

Ps also another very jealous pregnant woman who can't have it at the minute Envy

Fruitbat1980 · 04/06/2018 17:59

@dancingtothebeat you are awesome!

Love Brie!

Top with olive oil and halved cherry tomatoes and bake for about 20mins. Amazing!

gingertom11 · 04/06/2018 18:05

You can have Brie when pregnant as long as it's been cooked (ie. baked, on a pizza etc) as the cooking kills the bacteria! (V happy pregnant lady here when I discovered this!) Grin

NewtScamandersNaughtyNiffler · 04/06/2018 18:05

Have it in a crusty baguette with bacon, cranberry sauce and some rocket leaves.

You can have it when pregnant if it's cooked. Same with any of the other no no cheeses. I lived off baked camembert last pregnancy.

SoyDora · 04/06/2018 18:13

I know I can have it cooked, but I like it best uncooked, gooey and oozing on a cracker or some crusty bread!

MrsFTigalar · 04/06/2018 18:18

On a baguette with slices of tomato and some pepper. Warmed under the grill until just melty.

Also pregnant. Also wanting brie now. 😢

FizzyGreenWater · 04/06/2018 18:20

If I can state that Tom Hardy leaves me cold, you can turn your nose up at a wheel of Brie, OP.

It's a rum old world!

Bigkingdom · 04/06/2018 18:23

I’ve seen a lovely recipe pop up on my fb for baked brie with bacon and cooked spaghetti mixed in. Well i say lovely but i’ve not had the chance to taste it because i’m pregnant. I’ve never even had brie but it still makes my mouth water when i see it so i will have to try it!

Bigkingdom · 04/06/2018 18:25

Oh i’ve just seen i can have it! Guess who is about to go and get some now Grin

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 04/06/2018 18:26

I loathe brie YABU to subject yourself to it! I'd honestly find a home for it, as us loathers are in the minority it wouldn't take long to rehome if you took it to work, I'm sure.

Camembert, Stilton, Goats cheese, I'd bite your hand off!

LookBackInIngres · 04/06/2018 18:37

I agree with MyKingdomForBrie. Peeling off the rind takes it to another level. Easier to do when chilled and then let it warm up to gloopy room temperature.
Also fabulous in an omelette.
