Just been looking into universal credit. Family's on low income would claim child tax and working tax credits, renew annually and thats it.

Now with universal credit your expected to sign a work commitment, and have meetings with a work coach to find better paid work. Like what, retail, catering and other industries have paid low wages historically.

Seems to me that this government is making low income Family's jump through hoops to get their benefits rather than go after the multi million pound employers that don't pay their employees a decent livable income.

Jus me or is this really fecking out of line. Is our government happy to subsidise low paying employers while making hard working families on low income have to hump hoops.

free fuck knows where mine is, he's done it all to avoid maintanence.

really but the difference then was that the government didn't have to collect it, the rp was the one who went without if it wasn't paid. My way the government would be responsible for paying the rp, which they'd need to recoup from the nrp.

However in the interest of fairness, for low/ average income families it would be a fixed amount, paid from a central pot of nrp payments. That would prevent the current inequality where person a can get £1k in maintanence, shares the care and can still claim benefits, but person b gets £6 or zilch, has sole responsibility and only gets the same level of benefits.

@ohrelly, why should I be arsed to look anything up? I’ve never claimed benefits. I live in a paid off mortgage house at the age of 46.i had aspirations, not bleating about having to sign the odd form.

happy what a load of shite.

My family were/ are higher rate taxpayers for generations. They didn't work harder than the majority on nmw do. And all that money meant they certainly didn't work as hard at home.

I was a good earner, then below breadline, then low earner, and now I'm average. I worked hardest and had the least time when I was breadline and low income.

Not to mention that when you're skint, even little conveniences like nipping to the corner shop or driving to tesco to put a quick last minute meal together, or even to buy painkillers or sanpro aren't a choice. It's walk to aldi/ a budget shop and buy the cheapest you can to cook from scratch.

Why wouldn’t you work the minimum 16 hours a week in most situations where you receive tax credits?

Any additional income is effectively taxed at 73% (20% income tax, 12% NI and tax credits tapered away at 41%). For those extra hours Youre working for buttons and possibly paying childcare on top. Don’t hate the people doing it - look at the system.

@ohreallyohreallyoh hope this doesn't sound insensitive, but is there anyway your mum could go into a home,as soon as

Ah yes, those who are still mortgaged to the hilt clearly didn’t have any aspirations. Jesus fucking wept.

Bexter801 · 03/06/2018 21:34

@Happypuppy why 'had aspirations'...you don't anymore?

ohreallyohreallyoh · 03/06/2018 21:34

Working on it, Bexter, working on it. She is resistant. It’s very hard.

Bexter801 · 03/06/2018 21:36

I can relate @ohreallyohreallyoh,but for your own sanity...you need to be equally persistent

ohreallyohreallyoh · 03/06/2018 21:37

Oh, and happy, for the third time on this thread, I am a full time teacher who tutors and who marks exams. I am still entitled to tax credits. Please tell me in what way I lack aspiration, am lazy/can’t be bothered or in some way deserve to be thought of as ‘scrounging’.

SluttyButty · 03/06/2018 22:06

Ohreally I'd go and bang your head against the bricks on the outside of your house. There's no arguing with uneducated. I'll supply the bandages for your forehead wounds 😉
