The nudity, the language, the violence & mostly the way DH acts whenever Daenerys Targaryen is on the screen in various states of undress.

AIBU or is DH just trying to make me watch Soft porn?

It's rubbish don't bother. DH (geek) read the books before hand and even he didn't make it through the whole series. I watched an episode once and DH would have it on while I was doing other bits it looked terrible

NormskiNamechange · 01/06/2018 13:07

I haven’t seen it. DP seems to like it though. Are there equally naked men? Or is it only largely female nudity?

Eolian · 01/06/2018 13:07

Watch it if you want to, don't watch it if you don't want to. Your husband can't make you watch it, and he is a twat if he tries to. YABU to say it's 'soft porn' though.

TheShapeOfEwe · 01/06/2018 13:08

YANBU to not watch it if it's not your thing, but you sound a bit judgy! I don't watch it because I don't really like watching violence on tv but I can see why others like it - it's an incredibly complex and often empowering show.

I would say that if your DH is openly ogling DT in front of you that's pretty disrespectful and rude.

Livingsymbol · 01/06/2018 13:08

I have watched it I just don’t wish to watch it again, though it seems to be the plan for tonight Hmm

Game of Thrones is fantastic

DH can ogle Dany as much as he wants, I do the same with Jon Snow.

HRTpatch · 01/06/2018 13:10

It's wonderful. We binge watched all series in 3 months.
Davos, Stannis, Tormund, Mormont...so much to look at 😀
And it is very funny

Stardust91 · 01/06/2018 13:18

I didn't like the 1st season because of all the violence and nudity BUT after 2nd season things did improve for me. As seasons go by the nudity is less especially with daenerys. I think the actress as well mentioned in an interview she didn't want to expose herself anymore like that. (Not 100% sure about that about i could have sworn i saw it somewhere). If you manage to go through the 1st season i think you might end up liking it. Although, the violence is still there..if anything gory comes up i usually look away and wait for the scene to be over while repeatedly asking DH 'is it over yet?is it over yet?' Blush

Stardust91 · 01/06/2018 13:19

Oh.. you have watched it already... nevermind ignore my post GrinBlush

blackteasplease · 01/06/2018 13:20

I love GoT but obviously it's up to you!

bakingdemon · 01/06/2018 13:22

I love it and can not wait til the new series - and there is a lot less nudity in the more recent series now that winter has come and everyone needs to wear fur. But of course you don't have to watch it.

bellabelly · 01/06/2018 13:24

One of my sons has been asking to watch Game of Thrones, he'll be 11 in August. Is it really unsuitable then? I was wondering if it might be too violent, hadn't realised that there's a lot of sex and nudity! He has just started reading the first book and says it's really good!

Eolian · 01/06/2018 13:26

bellabelly it is highly unsuitable! I'm no prude but I wouldn't be letting my 13 yo dd anywhere near the books or the show until she's at least 16! Lots of sex, including violent rape and incest.

ICantCopeAnymore · 01/06/2018 13:28

Oh gosh not a chance at 11!! It's very unsuitable, lots of sex, whores, very graphic violence!

bakingdemon · 01/06/2018 13:29

@bellabelly absolutely no way is it suitable for for 11 year old. V violent, all the sex, very adult themes.

sola82 · 01/06/2018 13:36

I love GoT, it's full of very strong female characters.

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 01/06/2018 13:36

I absolutely love Game of Thrones, but it is HIGHLY unsuitable for an eleven year old!

FirstOfMyName · 01/06/2018 13:39

Ahem

But highly unsuitable for 11year old.

agentdaisy · 01/06/2018 13:44

I'm another fan of game of thrones. I've read the books and seen the series, personally I favour the books but they are incredibly long.

No way in hell would I let an 11 year old either read the books or watch the series. The TV version has lots of sex/nudity (a bit too much imo) and violence. The books are no better and are in some ways worse as its much more discriptive than what you see on screen both in terms of sex and violence.

It's a fantastic series (both books and TV) but the underlying themes, especially regarding women, are very complex and not suitable for young teens.

CaptainBrickbeard · 01/06/2018 13:52

The nudity and terrible treatment of female characters lessens as the series goes on. Things do become more equal and it gets a lot less gratuitous. The sexual violence in the books disturbed me a lot, but the tv series improves on that score. It’s definitely not for 11 year olds but I would say not to write it off on the grounds of nudity as it becomes totally worth the watch.

ghostyslovesheets · 01/06/2018 13:54

I'm watching it right now Grin - I am a big fan - for lots of reasons - one of the main ones being the way it examines the impact of male behaviour on women - and the way they respond - it's really rather good with lots of strong women characters - not just naked people

I do also, at 48, appreciate the vast number of age appropriate eye candy talented older actors !

FirstOfMyName · 01/06/2018 13:59

Daenerys, Cersei & Sansa are all strong women. Arya starts off as a strong child & ends up imo as a formidable opponent.

FlyingElbows · 01/06/2018 14:02

Hands up I too eye-rolled and disapproved when Mr Elbows watched it at the start. Then I watched it myself. The first season is hedonistic for a reason. It's a polar contrast to the last ones. If you can stick with it get through the first bit it really is good. I'm not a fantasy or sci-fi fan at all but, come on, massive dragons, what's not to love!

ghostyslovesheets · 01/06/2018 14:04

and Yara, Brienne, Melisandre, Lyanna Mormont - and many more

theycallmebabydriver · 01/06/2018 14:06

Ooh, where is the box set available? Is it free on sky? Last time I wanted to watch it all again only series 1 was available to watch without paying extra.
