The nudity, the language, the violence & mostly the way DH acts whenever Daenerys Targaryen is on the screen in various states of undress.

AIBU or is DH just trying to make me watch Soft porn?

I love GOT - took me a couple of episodes and some of the sex/violence is a bit OTT but it's a great show! Don't not give it a chance because your husband fancies on of them Hmm

bellabelly · 01/06/2018 14:45

Ah, ok - that sounds pretty unanimous. I thought it'd be more dragon-focused... Grin And DS told me that it's all based around the War of the Roses so I thought it would be a sort of fantasy/ sci-fi meets historical novel. Sounds good though - wouldn't mind watching it myself now! Is it only on Sky?

Livingsymbol · 01/06/2018 14:49

@babydrivr

Free on sky until August 31st

YABU OP but I'm extremely grateful for the notification it's back on box set so thanks for this thread.

I don't think I would have enjoyed the series as much without the books though, they fill in so many things that aren't fully explained by the show.

FirstOfMyName · 01/06/2018 15:03

Love Lyanna

OutsideContextProblem · 01/06/2018 15:07

I love GOT, and the “sexposition” does get much better after series 1, but if you’ve watched all the series before and don’t want to watch them again then clearly YANBU to say “no that’s not how I want to spend 63 hours of my life”.

HRTpatch · 01/06/2018 15:16

I love Brienne

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 01/06/2018 15:24

I'm waiting for a release date for season 8 so I can plan to watch all from season 1 to 7 just before it starts. Grin

FirstOfMyName · 01/06/2018 15:26

I want Brienne & Jaimie to run off into the sunset together

SparklySeashell · 01/06/2018 15:27

I feel like it's a bit unsuitable for me at 38! But I absolutely love it!!

FirstOfMyName · 01/06/2018 15:28

Jaime - I almost give up with having to correct my stupid spell correct all the time

senioritabonita · 01/06/2018 15:29

Ds is almost 15 and I agreed if he read all the books first, he could watch it with dh. I hate it. We all call it ‘tits and dragons’ which keeps it in it’s place as ludicrous fantasy fiction.
I don’t watch it but it’s no worse than most crap on the tv!

FizzyGreenWater · 01/06/2018 15:38

Never seen it, never read it, and every time there is a reference to the GOT 'Jon Snow', I immediately think of the journalist/newsreader.

Why on earth did they use that name Grin ridiculous.

Unless the presumably far more rufty-tufty GOT character was written before the real life Jon Snow's career got going.

Better than most of the other names though. One thing which always puts me off fantasy/Tolkien style DRAGONS AND LEGENDS!! style stuff is the stupid made up names. Aaaargh. So teenage.

SexyManatee · 01/06/2018 15:42

Sansa is my fave. She's so strong.

I'm with you on this but I suspect the author had never heard of the real life JS.

MyOtherProfile · 01/06/2018 15:59

And no way would I let an 11 yr old read the books or watch the show.

ICantCopeAnymore · 01/06/2018 16:14

I do pity the real life Jon Snow. He must get a lot of people telling him he doesn't know anything.

Juells · 01/06/2018 16:24

My sister hates violence, and refused to watch GoT with me. Then she somehow got trapped by watching part of an episode by accident, and went back and watched every season back to back 😂

She watches it on her own so she can fast forward through anything that's too violent or too nudey.

Juells · 01/06/2018 16:28

No chance, that wildling has his eye firmly fixed on her.

Amanduh · 01/06/2018 16:40

It’s on of the worst things I’ve ever watched.

Amanduh · 01/06/2018 16:41

*one...

5foot5 · 01/06/2018 17:31

We took the DVD of season 1 on holiday about 5 years ago because DD (17 at the time) had read book one and DH thought it sounded good too. Privately I thought it would not be my thing as I am not really in to fantasy type things and actually fell asleep during LotR and The Hobbit.

However, after one or two episodes I was hooked. We all were. We quickly got up to date with it on DVD and have since watched each episode as it aired.

I think it really is rather good and the explicit sex scenes get less as the series progresses. The violence stays though. One of the things I like about it is there are so many strong female characters. Even one who seemed incredibly wet at the start has grown to be a formidable lady (Sansa)

I have never tried to read the books as, in the opinion of DD and DH, book 1 is good, book 2 not so bad and after that they are awful. Also it is increasingly unlikely that GRRM will ever finish them.

ImAGoofyGoober · 01/06/2018 17:34

I couldn’t get past the 2nd season. Sooo boring.
