DH's no 'pooing....

DH has decided to try the no 'poo approach to hair care. Someone at work has told him it is 'meant to make your hair hold its stills better' or some such.
However, he has never been particularly fussed about his hair - we are not really a typically 'trend' driven family - and he has a standard men's style short crop. I should add he does have lovely thick healthy (albeit a bit grey now!) hair.
Obviously it up to him what he does with his hair but my issue is thus: in under one week his pillow case has gone from white to a gross yellowy brown! He has a special pillow to support his neck for which I have more than one cover but I'm not convinced Ill get them anywhere close to being white again when I wash them.
Apparently he is continuing to apply his styling product everyday - surely there is no need and eventually he'll end up with more wax than hair if he applies it every day and never washes it out?!?
I get the virtues of no poo in general but surely his is more aimed at people with longer hair where the condition is more evident?????
AIBU to want him to just wash his hair as he used to everyday??

The no poo method means no wax styling products as they arent water soluble. So he needs to rewash and start again

I use conditioner wash only on my youngest as she has super curly hair. It’s been a revelation and no yellow pillows. You can use certain silicone/sulfate free styling products like gel and mousse but not wax as it is not water soluble and does not co wash out

I hear you OP. My husband has also given up washing his hair and his pillow case is mingerama. He doesn't use product either so it is clearly just manky head stuff.

I'm not super fussed because nobody sees our pillow cases except us but it is a bit grim.

You can't tell that he doesn't wash his hair from looking at him though - but he feels better with it as he says it feels thicker and healthier.

I tried it and felt too horrendous for words and gave up!

And totally off point but I have started washing with the children's shampoo in a bid to reduce our use of plastic bottles and my hair can go much longer between washes without looking like an oil slick.

Happy days.

For people asking about the curly girl method- I started it two weeks ago. My curls are so much curlier already! I've been able to go 6 days
Before my hair is greasy where previously I was washing it daily. Really recommend it. (I've also been straightening my hair for years, this is the first time I've really gone curly).

I wash my dd’s twice a week (with only conditioner) the rest off the time I just damp it a little and pile on more conditioner. It’s never once looked greasy, quite the opposite in fact, it can still look dry sometimes, slowly finding which products work best. If they are using any old conditioner though it won’t work, there are a limited number suitable for this method. We’ve been doing it for a year now and never once had pillow grease

Think your DH works upstairs from me. So glad he moved desks, I could smell his hair all day when he sat behind me.

When back-packing many moons ago I found that hair did seem to adjust to less frequent washing (we only had the opportunity to wash in hot water once every couple of weeks, so just did the urgent bits in between). This hasn't worked so far for the guy who worked behind me. No idea how the wife copes.
