To wonder why would anyone buy pampers ?

The price difference between pampers and supermarket brands is astonishing why would anyone buy that ? They are all equally capable of catching pee and poo in my experience !

I tried them recently (abroad, when we'd run out of Aldi ones). They were terrible! She woke up with a wet nappy halfway through the night. I'm not a fan, but each to their own.

Rockandrollwithit · 31/05/2018 19:53

To be honest, I buy Pampers because they are readily available wherever I go to do my shopping. I'm lucky that I don't have to worry about the cost implications of that.

Rainatnight · 31/05/2018 19:54

A) because DD's foster carer used them and when we adopted her we knew they worked for her so didn't want to change it.

B) because we have an Amazon nappy subscription so it actually works out very cheaply in bulk

C) because we like to give random strangers on the internet something pointless to worry about.

VileyRose · 31/05/2018 19:54

Pampers smell horrid. I had no problems with them but the chemical smell worried me. It is awful.

I've used asda, Tesco, and Lidl over 4 children and I like Lidl and Tesco green the best.

happymummy12345 · 31/05/2018 19:56

Because they're the best imo

FranticallyPeaceful · 31/05/2018 20:00

We have always used pampers and my mum brought me some Mamia (aldi) ones last week and I’m converted! I assumed they’d be rubbish due to price difference... they aren’t! And they seem much comfier.
I have a miosolo reusable stash ready to go but he’s far too tiny to wear them yet! Smile

Dobbythesockelf · 31/05/2018 20:01

Do people really put this much thought into why other parents choose a different type of nappy? Different nappies fit different kids differently, no matter how much you think all babies are the same shape they just aren't. My dd is petite and slim, some nappies just didn't fit well round her skinny hips.

Carycach100 · 31/05/2018 20:10

my dcs were skinny and pampers were the only ones that did the job! Haven't used them for nigh on 10 years though so things might have changed.

squiggleirl · 31/05/2018 20:13

Ah, but they all hang onto that pee and poo? My DSs had the ability to pee in a way that no nappy other than Pampers could handle. They were useless for DD, and had it not been for Huggies, she would have been permanently soaked. None of the own-brands worked for any of mine. The ones that didn't leak gave them horrible nappy rash.

MotherofPearl · 31/05/2018 20:16

Pampers don't leak. I tried various supermarket own brands but they always seemed to leak - especially overnight, meaning changes of sheets etc which I really could not be doing with. I'd rather pay a bit more for something that actually works.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 01/06/2018 10:24

Pampers were the only ones that DD2 didn't shit out the side of 🤷🏻‍♀️

Enoughisenough18 · 01/06/2018 10:39

Aldi and Morrison's nappies are amazing

Butterflykissess · 01/06/2018 11:00

I ONLY buy pampers. Sorry but I wouldn't touch aldi or lidls (too cheap for me) I don't mind paying more for something that's going to be on my dds skin. I have 4 kids and only ever buy pampers. They are obviously the most popular for a reason. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean that others don't aswell.

dadshere · 01/06/2018 11:06

We tried many different brands when dd was in them, only pampers reliably caught everything. She is now in night time ones only, and huggies are better. different strokes for different folks..

Tobebythesea · 01/06/2018 11:09

We’ve tried them all and prefer Pampers. We get a monthly box through Amazon.

Tobebythesea · 01/06/2018 11:10

Pampers don’t leak compared to others in my experience.

Redinthefacegirl · 01/06/2018 11:12

Used reusables for DS1 daytime and a disposable at night. He got a rash from Lidl. We liked Aldi ones but no local Aldi. Pampers pull ups work for him overnight (dry in day but still in a night pull up). The cost of 1 in 24hrs is 10p, we always buy on offer.
DS2 is a skinny wriggler. Changed from reusables to pull ups at 7 months because we just couldn't get anything else on him. Tried Sainsbury's pull ups (crap) and not many others made them small enough.
Does it matter?

Mousefunky · 01/06/2018 11:14

When I was pregnant with DC1 I got bought about twenty boxes of pampers wipes and nappies. I was a clueless FTM so just thought because they’re the most well known brand, they must be the best. They weren’t.

Camomila · 01/06/2018 11:19

I think it depends on the DCs build. 2yr old DS has always been slim, never really had much of a chubby toddler tummy or thighs.
Pampers nappy pants are the only size that fit him well, the same size in Aldi and Asda nappies looks to be a good cm wider around the waist and slips down if he doesn't wear a vest.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 01/06/2018 11:23

They are obviously the most popular for a reason

Are they not the only non supermarket brand? Maybe there's an alternative in the UK but in Ireland they're the only brand available in all shops. We have Tesco/lidl/aldi in roi but I would have to make an hr round trip to get to one.

Cheesenacho123 · 01/06/2018 11:27

We buy pampers wipes and nappies.
We buy the wipes because there not as watery as the likes of Johnson’s or Aldi, it’s more personal preference.
We buy the nappies because I found at size 3 in aldi’s they stopped being great nappies at size 3 (size 1 and 2 aldi were amazing) as they leaked a lot. Tesco’s and Asda’s caused bad nappy rash so we went into pampers pants size 3 as the tabbed nappies just weren’t staying on him as he was a riggly baby.
They are more expensive but it’s an expensive I don’t mind paying for, if that is what my son needs then that’s what he gets.
I also found pampers contained poonami’s so much better than Aldi, Asda or Tesco. I would say with the supermarket brands every poonami leaked, with pampers we only had a couple of poo leaks.
It’s like how everyone recommends metanium bum cream but it makes my sons nappy rash worse so we prefer bepanthen.

sanityisamyth · 01/06/2018 11:34

All the other brands I've tried have either leaked or burst so I buy Pampers. It's a small price to pay than to constantly wash and dry clothes and bed sheets because of leaks.

muttmad · 01/06/2018 11:39

Only used pampers with my first, with my second I've tried them all, i find Aldi the best and so cheap!
I had run out last week so brought sainsburys own..... never again within days my poor DD had what looked like red angry chemical burns! (Definitely not nappy rash!)

OverTheMountain42 · 01/06/2018 12:11

DS is now 4 and hasn't been in a nappy in a long time. For the first 6-7 months I used Waitrose own, as well as trying boots, Asda and Sainsbury's ones but found Waitrose to be good. Once he got bigger (at 8 months he was in 18-24 month clothing) Pampers were the only ones that fitted him well, the other brands were too tight and cutting into his legs. So for the rest of his nappy time we got Pampers.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 01/06/2018 12:15

We tried Pampers again briefly as it was all we could get in a pinch a year or so back, having ditched them for leaking most nights. I think I assumed they would have improved them!

But no, still leaky, still weirdly heavier and bulkier than other nappies. I had to change my DD three times one night!
