To want to cut my hair very short like Gemma Arterton? (with pics)

I know she is impossibly beautiful and perhaps that haircut would look nothing like that on me. But it looks so bloody amazing and sophisticated on her that I feel really tempted Grin

AIBU to cut my hair so short? Would it look awful on someone not quite as stunning as Gemma?

It’s a bit
Nothing special hair cut tbh

Battleax · 30/05/2018 23:20

It’s one of those “simple frame to showcase a stunning face” haircuts.

daffodillament · 30/05/2018 23:21

Its beautiful and so is she !

dontticklethetoad · 30/05/2018 23:21

It depends what shape head/face you have. Although that said, I am firmly in the 'if it makes you happy/feel good do it' camp, so go for it.

busybarbara · 30/05/2018 23:23

I think you should unless you're sure you'd literally look like someone has dropped a wet mop on top of a pumpkin.

Ohyesiam · 30/05/2018 23:26

If you have the cheekbones, everything else falls into place

CopONNotLinkedIn · 30/05/2018 23:31

I think if you have regular features and straight hair it will look good. You dont have to be beautiful!!
Whatever haircut you have now wont make you beautiful (if ur not!)

ThistleAmore · 30/05/2018 23:53

It also depends on the texture of your hair: never be fooled by rogue hairdressers who say that your floofy, frizzy hair can be tamed 'with a bit of blow-drying and wax', i.e. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES.

ThistleAmore · 30/05/2018 23:54

You need very, VERY naturally straight, silken and quite fine hair to do this, which I should have explained in my previous post, but I was quite enraged by the memory of rogue hairdressers.

UpstartCrow · 30/05/2018 23:54

I have those cheekbones. They are hidden under several layers of fat, wrinkles and beard Sad

PolkaHots · 30/05/2018 23:56

I think it would look v dowdy on anybody not stunning.

However, hair grows back. And life is too short to fret too much about something as insignificant as looking a bit plain/butch for a couple of months if you don’t like it.

Wildlingofthewest · 31/05/2018 00:00

She’s stunning and she has hair stylists to do her hair for her. This haircut wouldn’t look like this if a “normal” person had it!!
I think pixie hair cuts really suit people with dainty features- but you have to have the features and bone structure to pull it off, and be able to style it properly everyday

affectionincoldclimate · 31/05/2018 00:10

I've got really short hair and have had it for years and it's my trademark style which after years of faffing with my fine baby hair finally made me happy. The key is to go to a very and I mean very good hairdresser who knows how to cut short. It's a real skill as there is no room for error. A cut like this done badly will end up looking like a typical "newsreader" hair. Bit naff. Or unintentionally butch.

If you have a nice bone structure go for it!

sadandtired1 · 31/05/2018 00:12

Looks great on her - she's beautiful young and thin

This haircut on someone average would look average or worse, frumpy

I'd love short hair but can't carry it off

Sametimesameplace · 31/05/2018 00:14

It’s nice enough but I think even she would look better with longer hair. It might help if it was a strong colour.

LottaLou · 31/05/2018 08:09

To answer some PP, I have very fine, super thin hair. So hair texture should be alright!

Face wise, I have very "edgy" features with strong cheekbones and chin/ jaw. Nowhere as beautiful as Gemma though!!!

Body wise I am of average height and quite slim, with a androgynous body shape (no curves).

Lottalou you sound just like me, though I have curves. I have had a haircut like that before and it looked great BUT I felt I had to wear more makeup and jewellery to feel more feminine. These days I rock a chin length inverted bob which suits my hair type and face shape and is more feminine!

Anniegetyourgun · 31/05/2018 08:22

Best thing about short hair is how very, very easy it is to take care of. Saves a fortune in shampoo, conditioner and blow drying. When it rains your hair doesn't fall into your eyes because it can't reach. What's not to like?

Disclaimer: I'm not a model. If you are, maybe you have to put more thought into this.

Els1e · 31/05/2018 08:23

I would say go for it. What’s the worse that can happen? You don’t like it, so you let it grow out. I love the cut but it wouldn’t work for me. I’m a curvy lady with a round face, fine curly hair. But it sounds like you might have the right face to take it.

Notveryladylike · 31/05/2018 08:26

I have decent cheekbones, I would look like shit with a haircut like this, I can't even pull off a nice shirt Bob!
Depense what type of hair you have I think and if you can be bothered putting the effort into it every morning. Can't just throw it up in a bobble when it's that short.

Frouby · 31/05/2018 08:34

I love cuts like this. I usually have similar.

I look good with short hair when I wear make up and make an effort. 99% of the time I don't make an effort tho. I work from home, have horses/dog/allotment and dcs and don't really go anywhere to justify applying make up every day.

If you do and do make an effort then go for it. My hair is currently almost a bob as was growing it for our wedding 2 weeks ago. And I think I am going to keep it slightly longer as it looks nicer not doing anything to it than very short not doing anything to it. But short looks amazing when done iyswim.

That's until I get to the hairdressers next and randomly decide to short and dark instead of blondy brown and less short.

AjasLipstick · 31/05/2018 08:45

I actually asked for similar a month ago from a new stylist and she said NO!

So annoying. I just went with her though...figured she knew best.

Beamur · 31/05/2018 08:49

Do it! If you don't like it, grow it out again.

ethelfleda · 31/05/2018 08:49

Don't do it! I always think people regret having their hair chopped off.
How long ad what colour is your hair?
And if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

morningconstitutional2017 · 31/05/2018 08:51

You won't know if it suits you unless you try. If it's disappointing it'll always grow back.

I take a photo of Tamsin Greig with me to the hairdresser (when she was on the red carpet a few years back) with her hair in a layered pixie cut which looked amazing. I'm unable to put this pic on here. Of course I don't look quite as good with my older face but what the heck?
