what is your all time favourite cake? Mine is a Victoria sponge (always with whipped cream, never buttercream) or a Black Forest Gateaux.

At the risk of sounding very childish...I love birthday cake...plain sponge filled with buttercream and jam topped with fondant!

ShatnersWig · 30/05/2018 15:50

What about Tiffin?

After all, as Sid James says in Carry On Up The Khyber, "any time is Tiffin time!"

Vitalogy · 30/05/2018 16:00

Oh dear, there's soo many to choose from.
I agree about Black Forest Gateaux though, that's a good one.
OOW, lemon drizzle, chocolate, fruit.

I made a chocolate and beatroot cake, love the colour of the batter and tastes earthy in a good way Confused

Dan Cake Marble Half Moon So hard to find it though. That's right, our local shop has stopped selling them Sad

CharltonLido73 · 30/05/2018 16:09

At the moment, Waitrose own brand cherry madeira - so moist and succulent.

liz70 · 30/05/2018 16:11

Victoria Sandwich, any sort of cream filling, any jam but esp. strawberry. Served with Earl Grey tea in a pretty tea set, in a lovely garden on a pleasantly warm sunny day - Heaven. I sound like Miss Bloody Marple, I know

StylishMummy · 30/05/2018 16:13

Chocolate cake (my homemade NOT shop bought)

Lemon drizzle

Red Velvet Cake

winterinmadeira · 30/05/2018 16:29

Mmmm not sure cos I love cakes do it depends on my mood!

Currently it’s sticky toffee cake, followed by fruit cake and then Victoria sponge. All with proper butter .

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 30/05/2018 16:36

Victoria sponge with raspberry jam and whipped cream or butter cream in the middle. The jam has to be raspberry!

Orange cake- my mum's one is my favourite out of her bakes.

Home made ginger cake- my uncle made the best ones.

Sachertorte. My utter indulgence. I can make it, but still learning to make it well. Having lots of tasty fun practicing!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 30/05/2018 16:37

I also have a recipe for a fresh chocolate cake that has the unofficial title of "the better than sex cake" Grin

ISeeTheLight · 30/05/2018 16:39

Fresh fruit gateaux. With creme au beurre. Sadly quite hard to find since I moved to the UK.

mildshock · 30/05/2018 17:05

Earl grey sponge with lemon Swiss meringue buttercream

Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and chopped walnuts

Really rich chocolate cake with morello cherries and whipped cream

1Potato2 · 30/05/2018 17:35

A vote for simnel cake. Lush

1Potato2 · 30/05/2018 17:37

Oh and good quality birthday cake. I agree formerbabe

SilverySurfer · 30/05/2018 17:41

I love Victoria sponge but totally disagree with Mary Berry who suggests using Stork Margarine. I tried it once and it was gross - IMO VS should only be made with butter. Oh and for filling, raspberry jam - no cream - yum.

TSSDNCOP · 30/05/2018 17:41

Coffee and walnut

bakingdemon · 30/05/2018 17:43

Chocolate cake. @DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops can you share yours?
But will also eat carrot cake, sponge cake, fruit cake... the one I don't really like is lemon drizzle.

Takfujuimoto · 30/05/2018 17:43

I will always choose gypsy tart over any cake, but I do love chocolate mousse cake from Patisserie Valarie, ginger cake with lemon buttercream and a deep dish lemon meringue.

Frosty66612 · 30/05/2018 18:09

@takfujuimoto oooh yes I love the Pat Valerie choc mousse cake too. It’s so rich but I can always demolish a slice in about 10 seconds

Absolute favourite is coffee cake.... but I really like everything that doesn’t involve marzipan.

Polarbearflavour · 30/05/2018 18:33

Chocolate cake. Obvs. Don’t see the point in any type of cake!

Alwayscheerful · 30/05/2018 18:41

Lemon drizzle or coffee cake or Victoria sponge with fresh cream and raspberries or strawberries.
No margarine must be real butter.

CoodleMoodle · 30/05/2018 18:44

Chocolate fudge cake, as moist and rich as possible. The one I make uses buttermilk in the cake and cream cheese in the frosting and it's perfect!
