what is your all time favourite cake? Mine is a Victoria sponge (always with whipped cream, never buttercream) or a Black Forest Gateaux.

OP posts:
SerenDippitty · 30/05/2018 09:51

Welsh cake.

Notso · 30/05/2018 09:51

Coffee cake
Lemon and mascarpone,
Carrot cake
Sponge with jam and buttercream
Apple and cinnamon
That Easter one with marzipan,
I also love just a plain Madeira sponge.

The only ones I don't like are ones with fruit and chocolate or really heavy fruit cakes.

Nomorechickens · 30/05/2018 09:55

Sticky ginger cake. Preferably Rose Princes' recipe.
A really rich moist chocolate cake, served with pouring cream. No icing.
Apple upside down cake - apples at the bottom of the tin, with golden syrup and butter, topped by sponge
Home made lemon drizzle
Chocolate guinness cake with cream cheese frosting

Victoria sponge, but I actually prefer with buttercream Blush I also love fondant fancies.

CakeWars · 30/05/2018 10:01

Carrot cake. Hands down.

I surprised myself by knowing that automatically!

123MothergotafleA · 30/05/2018 10:02

A good Victoria sponge made with butter of course and filled with a good quality raspberry jam ( sieved to remove seeds) and, for a change, the addition of a bit of buttercream.
Otherwise, a great fruit cake (where the fruit has been soaked in brandy) in the wintertime is a comfort food of the Gods.

CakeWars · 30/05/2018 10:02

Also partial to a Victoria Sponge though.

WittyJack · 30/05/2018 10:08

I don't really like cake, but can manage lemon drizzle if you're insisting.

Otherwise cheesecake (the English nonbaked variety) or Jaffa cakes!

HappydaysArehere · 30/05/2018 10:09

Coffee and walnut.
Lemon drizzle.
Paul Hollywood’s chocolate brownies with cranberries and walnuts.

ProzacAndWine · 30/05/2018 10:11

Sachertorte, if it counts as a cake?

Cakes often look so great but taste of disappointment. Too dense, too dry, kinda tasteless... I'd still eat them all, though.

RedPandaMama · 30/05/2018 10:12

Banana bread. There's not much I'm good at making but banana bread is one thing I can bake SO well. I ate the whole thing in 2 days last time...

GoldenBarbie · 30/05/2018 10:13

Cream cheese frosting red velvet preferably from hummingbird

eggsandchips · 30/05/2018 10:41

I have to say though - it's been on sale forever in MnS but ive never seen the appeal of Colin caterpillar 🐛

Battenbergs and eclairs are nice too but not a patch on Vicky sponge and tipsy.

Atetoomanyjaffacakes · 30/05/2018 10:59

Carrot cake
Chocolate fudge
Victoria sponge with fresh cream and strawberries

SluttyButty · 30/05/2018 11:01

Chocolate Guinness cake with a Brew

HunterofStars · 30/05/2018 11:02

Mine is either a black forest gateau, strawberry gateau or a chocolate eclair.

jaseyraex · 30/05/2018 11:21

I love red velvet cake with a good cream cheese frosting. Usually make it myself as I'm so picky about it Grin

Also, basically any cheesecake. So long as it's unbaked!

WildIrishRose1 · 30/05/2018 11:26

Any cake, except those with cream cheese frosting - an utterly vile concoctionEnvy

Thanks, OP, I now have this overwhelming urge to make a Victoria sponge (with both jam and cream)!

WildIrishRose1 · 30/05/2018 11:27

Also despise cheesecake. There. I've said it.

WildIrishRose1 · 30/05/2018 11:29

Jasey I can see our potential friendship would not be problem-freeGrin

bilbodog · 30/05/2018 11:33

Coconut and lemon cake which i make.

blinkineckmum · 30/05/2018 11:38

Bakewell tart.
I hate Black forest gateau!

QueenOfMyWorld · 30/05/2018 11:43

My Nutella or malteasers cheesecake

pieceofpurplesky · 30/05/2018 11:45

Carrot with a smooth cream cheese buttercream
Banana and pecan

Strangely without cake surrounding it I hate bananas!

scaryteacher · 30/05/2018 11:48

Prozac Sachertorte is really dry though; I was deeply underwhelmed by it.
