what is your all time favourite cake? Mine is a Victoria sponge (always with whipped cream, never buttercream) or a Black Forest Gateaux.

WildIrishRose1 All the more cream cheese based cakes for me. I'm fine with that Grin

AliasGrape · 30/05/2018 13:56

I’ve got a really sweet tooth but cake doesn’t particularly do it for me. I will of course take it if offered though Grin I do love fruit cake though - light or dark. Homemade Christmas cake is the best.

CakeWars · 30/05/2018 14:00

I think cake is my favourite food BlushCake.

Too bad I’m low carbing just now Sad.

ineedwine99 · 30/05/2018 14:05

Coffee cake
Chocolate Orange cake
Lemon

lemonsunshinecake · 30/05/2018 14:06

Christmas cake!

ProzacAndWine · 30/05/2018 14:09

scaryteacher - Yeah, I've had some that I've been underwhelmed by, some very delicious. The ultimate one I love was a recipe my GM made, but it was quite modified, so not authentic. But it was dense, moist, extremely chocolatey (with proper dark dark chocolate) and apricotey and gorgeous.

rexxxa · 30/05/2018 14:29

Banana with toffee drizzle or chocolate chips Cake

Oysterbabe · 30/05/2018 14:31

Battenburg. It's not popular or sexy but I just love it.

PinkHeart5914 · 30/05/2018 14:38

I love cake, all the cake. A life without cake just wouldn’t be worth living imo

Favourites include;

Victoria sponge ( I use lemon curd and whipped double cream for the filling)

Carrot cake with a cream cream frosting

White chocolate and mascarpone cake

Lemon drizzle

Chocolate sponge with chocolate buttercream filling, then a chocolate ganache top

augustusglupe · 30/05/2018 14:44

Really moist Carrot cake with lots of frosting

Dan Cake Marble Half Moon
Oh, this takes me back to childhood...

Lemon drizzle is still my favourite though. My great-grandmother always used to make one when we visited, she was in her nineties but there was always a fresh lemon drizzle cake. At Easter, she used to put little model chicks on top, and sprinkle on a little brown sugar to make it look like they were pecking at it.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 30/05/2018 14:47

Victoria sponge
Chocolate Roulade
Coffee and Walnut
Brownies with a cream cheese topping

MrsHathaway · 30/05/2018 14:49

It varies with the seasons but I'm currently favouring an old Delia recipe which is essentially a spiced honey lemon drizzle.

Winter favourite was sticky ginger cake.

ALittleAubergine · 30/05/2018 14:52

Lemon drizzle but only if it has a bit of lemony filling.

Queenoftheblitz · 30/05/2018 14:53

Another lemon drizzle here.

Basta · 30/05/2018 14:56

A gateaux?? Confused

Mine is probably coffee cake.

BeyondThePage · 30/05/2018 14:58

A sticky home-made ginger cake - after about 3 or 4 days when it is at its unctuous best

OhCheersForThat · 30/05/2018 14:59

Another vote for Victoria sponge with fresh cream and jam filling.

Fresh cream cakes in general are delicious.

At Christmas, Caribbean rum cake.

MrsHathaway · 30/05/2018 15:00

ALittleAubergine

How about both cakes thoroughly drizzled with lemon drizzle, then sandwiched with lemon curd?

Spanglybangles · 30/05/2018 15:09

*My own coffee cake (no walnuts)
*My own lemon cake with vanilla buttercream and lemon glacè icing
*A plain slab of Madeira (m&s do a lovely one)
*Butter vanilla and chocolate marble cake with thick white icing (Lidl used to sell it but don’t any more sadly as it was amazing!!)

ShotsFired · 30/05/2018 15:13

Battenburg. My god that stuff is heaven.

MadMaryBoddington · 30/05/2018 15:38

My late Grandma’s parkin. Eaten on bonfire night in front of the bonfire.
