I hate Surrey

Is that unreasonable? I properly hate it.
I don't live there but most of my family do. Everyone seems to be obsessed with property prices, extensions and who's in the best bloody school! I even went to a cafe away from my family and the two tables close to us were discussing house prices and where the best catholic schools were.

Sorry if you live there but it just all seems to be greedy, self important twats. Am I wrong to make a sweeping statement about so many people? probably Wink

@Ramz this is an old thread you're better to start you're own.

OneStepMoreFun · 22/01/2019 08:17

Ramz my DC are at (admittedly prvate) school in Surrey and there are loads of Asian children at the school, with good, strong integrated friendship groups. But very few black children, about 3:1000 ratio, and two of those are mixed race.

Ramz · 22/01/2019 10:16

Yes - I realised last night and open the other thread., thanks

Ramz · 22/01/2019 10:18

Thank you.
But I would be relocating to Cheam..
So wondering which school is better - Banstead or Aberdour..

Please share your thoughts and check with your friends and let me know in that thread please

Thank you

WHen I was about 12 I'd only ever left yorkshire before to go abroad. One day wedrove doown south to o to france though and stopped off in Surrey. It blew my mind how weird it was, loads of chemists I seem to remember. Didnt like it.

Buddytheelf85 · 24/01/2019 14:16

We moved to Surrey fron London a year ago and I hate it, but actually because I find it incredibly rough - I feel way more threatened here than I ever did in London!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 24/01/2019 16:37

I know this is sort of a zombie thread but I thought the OP might like to know that with Brexit round the corner, here in in Surrey people are keeping pretty quiet about house prices right now...

Mildura · 24/01/2019 16:54

I find it incredibly rough

What, all of it?! Shock

Isn't it somewhat dependent on where in London you moved from and where you moved to?

Like any county Surrey has some rough bits, you'd have to be pretty naive to have expected otherwise, but there are some absolutely charming parts too, like almost every other county in the country.

Kpo58 · 24/01/2019 17:04

@Ramz

Why are you going for a private school in Banstead when you are moving to Cheam? There are plenty of private schools closer to home, such as Sutton High School. Sutton High appears to have a very good mix of ethnicities.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 24/01/2019 17:16

Ramz- Banstead Prep. Amazing facilities & Aberdour doesn't properly address bullying. If you're in Cheam though- Sutton High Juniors is nearer surely?

@Buddy- depends where you are. Rough is cheek by jowl with less rough. The local accent is quite Londony in places. Money trumps actual class in some places. But it has nice parts and very well heeled parts. As with many places, depends who you know.

3WildOnes · 24/01/2019 17:17

I live in SW London Surrey borders. I do talk about house prices and which schools are the best. Not sure what’s wrong with that? I talk about other stuff too! But house prices and schools are 2 of my peer groups biggest concerns at the moment!

Ramz · 25/01/2019 09:43

Hi,

Thank you for your very good question.
I have 6 years daughter and 3years son.
I am looking for preparatory schools for now.
For secondary I want them to go to Grammar or earn a scholarship in an independant school.

As of now for preparatory I want mixed education as logistics in dropping and picking should be easy.
For secondary it all depends on her achievement.

From Cheam to Bandstead school it’s 7 mins drive and Cheam to Sutton school is 5 mins drive.

Finally decided for Banstead after getting the ratio from the school. It’s a very good mix and please find the same for your reference.
54% White
25% Asian or mixed Asian
13% unspecified
6% Other mixed race
1% Black or mixed Black
1% Chinese

For current year 2 group:
60% White
30% Asian
10% mixed race

Hopefully everything goes well.
I tired my best to understand and analysis and rest in God’s hand.

Cheers

@Ramz - have you tried those drives in the rush hour?!

Ramz · 25/01/2019 09:46

Sorry - new user

Posted twice and I unable to delete it now ☹️

Ramz · 25/01/2019 09:47

Yes - it’s A road and able to manage with +- mins.

Because I have boy and a girl thinking of Banstead.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 25/01/2019 11:24

Ok- just know traffic round there is pretty full on!

lemonface · 25/01/2019 11:24

Well this appears to have developed into a chat about exactly what the OP hated about Surrey in the first place. Which is the best school? 😂🤣

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 25/01/2019 11:44

Well when you live in a heavily populated, expensive, appearance obsessed county that is still apparently peppered with undesirable rough elements that one must avoid, these things matter.

Buddytheelf85 · 16/02/2019 21:25

@mildura - sorry, no, not all of Surrey. I meant the (large) town I live in, which actually has a reputation for being posh. I find it incredibly rough. I’m aware of far more crime and anti-social behaviour than I ever was in the admittedly lovely area of south east London we moved from.

There’s lots of lovely countryside in Surrey though.
