To think we shouldn't have two bank holidays in May

It seems a waste, it would be better to move one of them to October or something and space them out a bit more. We already have two in Easter too so they're so clustered together.

Yeah, because it would be great to have a day off in October and it be too bastard cold to want to do anything Hmm

Yabu.

Elphabaisnotwicked · 28/05/2018 19:56

I love it Smile would much rather have bank holidays at this time of year when the weather is generally better!

veryyyy · 28/05/2018 19:56

Usually the May holidays are cold and pouring with rain though, we've just been lucky this year.

Elphabaisnotwicked · 28/05/2018 19:57

Well it’s considerably more likely that the weather will be nice than if it were October!

ilovesooty · 28/05/2018 19:57

At least the shops aren't full of Halloween and Christmas tat.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 28/05/2018 19:58

We haven't been that lucky, there's massive flooding!

I like April & May for the bank holidays. I wouldn't mind one in October... But as an extra Grin

AuntieStella · 28/05/2018 19:58

I'd like there to be a long weekend in the autumn, rather than a cluster in spring. That term is really long, and could do with breaking up a bit.

SingingSands · 28/05/2018 19:58

May is the best month of the year. Winter is over, everything is in bloom, the days are longer and summer is just around the corner. Having two bank holidays is the cherry on top!

Donotbequotingmeinbold · 28/05/2018 19:59

I love having 2 bank holidays in May.

RunMummyRun68 · 28/05/2018 19:59

Last few years May has been great weather op?

Gertrudethecow · 28/05/2018 20:00

I agree with you. It’s a real PIA for business owners too... Unless you are in retail or the restaurant/pub trade.
For everyone saying how terrible the weather is in October, we’ve had some lovely October’s in the past few years. My birthday is mid October and I normally spend it outside.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 28/05/2018 20:00

YABVVU. We live in the north and it’s usually rainy cold and dark in October. We’ve had 2 sunny warm bank holidays this May, which is unusual, but at least we know they will be rainy light and warmer.

ILoveMyDressingGown · 28/05/2018 20:03

Yabu. I like bank holidays, I still did even when I had to work them as a bar maid. I like the time off with my family. I like the warmer weather and I like them being close together. If the 2nd one was moved to October or whenever it would feel like a waste because there's very little to do - it's hard to go to the park or to sit in the garden or to get the paddling pool out when it's cold and stormy. Yes, it can be cold and stormy in May but it's more likely to be so in October.

Teggun · 28/05/2018 20:04

I'm with you on this one OP. October can be lovely. And I'd like it on a Friday as well.

mercurymaze · 28/05/2018 20:04

I'd prefer bank holiday Friday find the Mondays quite depressing

RaininSummer · 28/05/2018 20:27

I would like one in Oct. Weather us usually better than May and it us such a long time between august hols and xmas break.

RatOnnaStick · 28/05/2018 20:30

I'd quite like this one to be moved to end of June to break up the last slog to the end of term.

Butterymuffin · 28/05/2018 20:33

Why not have an extra one in October, and keep both May ones? Don't we still have fewer bank holidays than any other European country?

ScreamingValenta · 28/05/2018 20:35

I agree with Butterymuffin.

LadyLance · 28/05/2018 20:35

I'd go for extra bank holiday in early October and extra bank holiday in June. I like the idea of a bank holiday Friday as well!

Frouby · 28/05/2018 20:37

I would like a bank holiday friday in june. Towards the end. And one in October. Around the beginning. And one in February cos February is shit. Also I would like tbe last friday in each month to be a bank holiday.

And Christmas eve and the 2nd jan to be bank holidays too. But ones like easter sunday when everything is shut so everyone gets days off. In fact all bank holidays should be at an absolute minimum sunday trading hours.

Teggun · 28/05/2018 20:38

But anything that is fixed on a Monday goes out of the window with bank holidays in close succession. If it's a weekly event then it really disrupts things. Classes, groups, routine appointments etc. Pain in the arse

BusySittingDown · 28/05/2018 20:39

It would be nice to have one in June or July to spread them out a bit but to also give a chance of nice weather.

MrsLaurac · 28/05/2018 20:40

I feel it would be good to have one november time, possibly as some sort of black Friday ready for Christmas itd certainly give the shops a boost.

greendale17 · 28/05/2018 20:44

I have always said that St Georges day should be a bank holiday instead of one in May
