To be waiting to fill the neighbour's bin?

ParentInCharge · 28/05/2018 09:48

Standing at my door, rubbish bags beside me waiting for the bin lorry. Neighbour is hardly ever here so his bin is nice and empty and mine is full (new bed packaging plus a clutter clear out.)
He's in but I don't want to knock and ask because I think he might still be in bed. The bags will only be in for about a minute.
I'm such a bad neighbour. 😂

(Before anyone starts, no, recycling hasn't made it here yet so not an issue. We're in the dark ages here with our dark grey all-rubbish wheelie bins and still using cassette tapes.)

I would do it.....actually I would make my dh do it but that's because I am a coward Grin

RedHelenB · 28/05/2018 09:50

If your stuff won't dirty his bin go for it!

SeriousSass · 28/05/2018 09:52

Good Luck OP 😁

KittenBeast · 28/05/2018 09:52

If its only going to be there for a moment just shove it in. Go go go.

ScattyCharly · 28/05/2018 09:53

As long as your bags have no leakage etc and won’t leave a trace in his bin it will be ok.

busybarbara · 28/05/2018 09:53

It's not legal but if you're okay with that fill your boots

Queenofthestress · 28/05/2018 09:53

I do this, just before the bin men come so they get emptied anyway!

DartmoorDoughnut · 28/05/2018 09:54

They collect your rubbish on a bank hol?

CheekyRedhead · 28/05/2018 09:54

Await a cf post if my neighbour used my bin 😂

TidyDancer · 28/05/2018 10:02

You shouldn't be doing this without asking first.

aurynne · 28/05/2018 10:03

It's a trap. He is peeking right behind the curtain.

Myneighboursnorlax · 28/05/2018 10:04

Are you sure they’re coming? Ours don’t collect on a bank holiday...

Butterflykissess · 28/05/2018 10:06

I remember my mum did this. It was bin day and the neighbours him was half full. The neighbour took them out and threw them in the road.

Icequeen01 · 28/05/2018 10:07

Our bin men have just been and so have our garden recycling bin men. They always come on a bank holiday here. Just go for it Op!

abigailsnan · 28/05/2018 10:15

I would always ask first, when you see him out and about ask if when the collection lorry arrives and you have extra rubbish and his bin is empty can you use it.
Politeness makes for good neighbours imo.
Our Council also has bin collections on Bank Holidays I have just seen them going to the Community Centre to collect their waste.

Brickswithstones · 28/05/2018 10:17

@Butterflykissess - That is so funny. What did your mum do?

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 28/05/2018 10:20

They collect your rubbish on a bank hol?

I am so glad that I was not the only one who read the Op, ignored everything else you wrote and just wondered where on earth you lived that collected rubbish on a Bank Holiday Grin.

whatyadoing · 28/05/2018 10:20

I'd go for it. Fuck it, you only live once Grin

Curious though - how do you know his bin is nearly empty? Have a sneaky peak?

I just have images of you furtively scoping out the local bins hhaaha

Skittlesandbeer · 28/05/2018 10:23

Nice to hear you understand about the need for stealth.

My DH once deposited our extra recycling in a neighbour’s bin. Up the road a far way, didn’t know her. The night before. Her bin was in a corral next to her kitchen door, up her driveway. He frightened the beans out of her, looming in the dark.

When she came out of hiding, she opened the bin to find OUR NAME & ADDRESS on some packaging, marched to our door and lambasted me for 20 solid minutes. I had no idea what she was talking about, which made her even madder. She was yelling in a vocal register only dogs can hear. It was quite surreal, but her fluffy penguin pajamas certainly added to it.

I repeat, STEALTH is an important factor in this enterprise. Also ripping the address label out of your packaging Grin

whatyadoing · 28/05/2018 10:26

Is there an underground cohort of bin-space snatchers that I'm not privy to?? Grin

PleaseMakeTheNightmaresStop · 28/05/2018 10:27

HeadsDown I am so glad that I was not the only one who read the Op, ignored everything else you wrote and just wondered where on earth you lived that collected rubbish on a Bank Holiday

OP already said where she lives - in the past! Where Britannia rules the waves and bins get emptied on a bank holiday. Grin

unfortunateevents · 28/05/2018 10:27

I live with in Surrey and our rubbish is collected on BHs. They came about 9.30 this morning.

Cheby · 28/05/2018 10:31

We get collections on BHs too, except Christmas Day/Boxing Day where they do them the day after.

SensoryOverlord · 28/05/2018 10:33

We don't have wheelie bins here, it's just black bags on the kerb - a maximum of 3 a fortnight.

On bin day, one bin man walks along about 2 minutes in front of the lorry and collects all the bin bags into big piles ready for the lorry, about every 20 houses or so.

You have to be quick and ready. Wait until Man 1 has made the piles and moved slightly on, then you have about 90 seconds until the bin lorry arrives to chuck extra bags anonymously on the pile.

I see people do it every week, standing with front doors slightly ajar, bin bag in each hand, waiting and watching 😂

WhatMakesYouHappy · 28/05/2018 10:34

Come on OP, no update?? Have you been detained by said neighbour for a bollocking?

Side note: ours get collected bank holidays - South London. I always feel like they shouldn't and it should be a proper day off!
