Always pads have made me bleed

Memetic · 26/05/2018 22:49

I’m itching, swollen and bleeding. I stopped using the perfumed shits as soon as I saw I was shedding skin. My bits feel paper thin and the itching won’t stop unless I smother on vagisil. Why the fuck would they perfume pads?!!!

I’ve had lesser reactions to Always so switched to Bodyform which so far have been great - far softer than Always too.

Sturmundcalm · 27/05/2018 10:26

i use a mooncup/femmecup now but used to use body form and they have all of the extra long/winged options.

and i would suggest using something like aveeno bath oil: www.amazon.co.uk/Aveeno-Daily-Moisturising-Bath-Shower/dp/B01N808Z0Q/ref=dp_ob_title_hpc?tag=mumsnetforum-21

ahead of applying anything. it's not as good as the old formula but when i started to have reactions like yours it was a saviour - i can't use standard shower gels/bath stuff anymore, need to stick with SLS-free.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2018 10:27

There’s no point complaining to Always though as they don’t give a shit. It’s what we all want apparently.

StrugglingMumma · 27/05/2018 10:28

This happened to me with Always. I found Tena lady pads better but prefer to use reusable pads now

TammySwansonTwo · 27/05/2018 10:29

My skin flays off every period. I’ve started using always infinity which are fantastic and aren’t scented (the foam core is much better at absorbing if your bleeding is heavy which keeps the skin drier). The perfumes ones are hideous.

Maelstrop · 27/05/2018 10:29

Link this thread to Always customer service! I won’t use them anymore after they made me itch.

Savlon cures all around the foof area, I find. Amazing stuff!

LostSoutherner · 27/05/2018 10:37

OP I don’t think I could do reusables, I hate the idea of extra washing which I don’t think I’ll have time for. Is it a hassle?

It depends on how heavy your period is/how many pads you get through. (I've found they are surprisingly absorbent, on lighter days I have to change them just for hygeine reasons rather than because they are full.) If you can afford the initial outlay on loads of pads you can bung them all in a nappy bucket or something and do them all on one wash. And depends if you want them white - that's more hassle, clean but stained (sorry!) still do the job!

Massive reusable pad convert here, for the sheer comfort! Only thing is they fasten with a popper, not stuck to knickers, so can shift if you walk a lot. But for the comfort I'd be willing to buy knickers specifically to sew them into, if necessary.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/05/2018 10:46

I’m going to buy some of those thinx period pants, they apparently are dryer, so you don’t get the irritation. Going to get a pair for myself and another for dd to try as they have a special offer this weekend. I use washables at night but find they slip backwards in the day so hopefully the pants will feel more secure. www.shethinx.com/pages/it-works

Link this thread to Always customer service!

It’s been done before. They don’t care!

PaintedHorizons · 27/05/2018 11:13

I wish I'd known about reusable and mooncups before. They just don;t get advertised - I had no idea.

kikashi · 27/05/2018 11:14

I've started using a mix of Infinity pads and old fashioned Kotex maxi (mattress) pads when I'm working from home - so much more comfortable.

Madbengalmum · 27/05/2018 11:16

Always infinity are very good and not scented.

Deckthehallswithjammydodgers · 27/05/2018 11:21

I felt the same about resuables then a friend got me some they are ao easy i can't use a mooncup or tampons as having issues. My periods are easier since using resuable ones they are so easy yo wash i throw mine in with my towels at night and do an extra rinse so no more washing for me. When my daughter starts she'll be encouraged to use resuablea apart from when at school I'll get some unbleached ones with the least chemicals.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 27/05/2018 11:26

Kotex are fab. Had to buy emergency pack the other day and got aldi ones - was impressed. They are long, with wings, non scented and about 55p.
Also Boots own brand are only about 75p and are very like the aldi ones

boatyardblues · 27/05/2018 11:29

My midwife recommended Kotex post-delivery when I had DS1 because they are gentle.

Snowysky20009 · 27/05/2018 11:33

I feel really stupid! The itching I get during my period whilst using towels at night and at the start and end of my period I hadn't thought about it being the towels. Yes I use(ed) Always. Always no more and hopefully a non itchy va-jay-jay!!

I messaged OP, but for anyone else struggling with heavy periods and irritation, these are the business imho.
I don’t work for them - just found them when struggling with heavy periods. Not one leak. And that’s saying something!

Memetic · 27/05/2018 11:48

I’ve seen those period pants before and am interested but sceptical! I wonder how they keep everything in? I would probably prefer them to reusable ones as they seem more secure.

(Tmi alert) Today is a bit better but the cuts are itching and it hurts sitting down. I’m glad I have no work this week. I do have savlon though and might try that because I don’t think I have thrush. It’s just very dry, itchy and sensitive around both labias and my vulva. Sorry for tmi. I also have that children’s farm moisturiser so could try that instead of aveeno.

So angry that us women have to suffer things like this.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/05/2018 12:20

I’m going to buy some today while the offer is on, so will report back in a few weeks

TammySwansonTwo · 27/05/2018 12:29

Honestly, if you can find Always Infinity give them a go - they make such a difference to me, completely different to all other pads.

For the skin damage, I use epaderm or hydromol, it’s fantastic stuff. First found it when used on my twins in nicu.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2018 12:31

I’ve just ordered some as extra back up for hellishly heavy days. I also ordered some for DD who has just started (wail!) as she might find them useful - I have horrible memories of heavy days at school.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2018 12:31

(“Some” being Thinx!)

Tutuye · 27/05/2018 12:35

I too used always pads for 19yrs but them poisoning them prompted me to go washable and no regrets, so thanks for giving me the push, Always!

AntiHop · 27/05/2018 12:40

I haven't used them since they added scent either. Yuck.

Madbengalmum · 27/05/2018 12:44

Tammy, you are spot on infinity are the best by far! I also use washables at home.
