Always pads have made me bleed

Memetic · 26/05/2018 22:49

I’m itching, swollen and bleeding. I stopped using the perfumed shits as soon as I saw I was shedding skin. My bits feel paper thin and the itching won’t stop unless I smother on vagisil. Why the fuck would they perfume pads?!!!

For reusables try imse vimse or honour your flow.

For disposables try natracare.

VileyRose · 27/05/2018 08:50

I had this. Quickest way to heal is use cloth pads. Absolutely brilliant and will clear it fast.

throwcushions · 27/05/2018 09:02

Another vote for reusable. I use bamboo.

MuddyMoose · 27/05/2018 09:05

I used to always use Always but I detest the brand now. I won't use anything other than Bodyform now & have never had a problem.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 27/05/2018 09:27

The Tesco ones are winged and quite long. They might not be long enough at night though. 66p for 12.

Wondering who Always did their market research with though. Did they find the one woman in the country who did want perfumed sanitary towels?

Memetic · 27/05/2018 09:33

Flowers to all who have suffered like me. I can’t believe Always say women want the perfume.

I don’t think I could do reusables, I hate the idea of extra washing which I don’t think I’ll have time for. Is it a hassle?

They are crap, they did the same to me and also chaffed all the tips of my legs Blush as pp have suggested the Tesco's ones are great and super cheap. Bodyform are really good also.

I tried the Aldi ones once and I swear they gave me thrush so I wouldn't recommend them

Funnyface1 · 27/05/2018 09:38

I feel so stupid. I've just gone to the bathroom to check what I use as I'm always irritated and regularly suffering with thrush and there they are, a green pack of always.

I picked it up to read if they were perfumed and the smell hit me before I could read. They are described as "lightly scented".

Why haven't I figured this out on my own! Thank you for this thread.

SkaTastic · 27/05/2018 09:41

Oh your poor bits!! I totally hate them and now look mental, sniffing sanitary towels in the supermarket.

boatyardblues · 27/05/2018 09:41

When I went to my GP about this, the first thing she asked was whether I used Always towels. Its a shame there isn’t an equivalent national reporting scheme for sanitary products as there is for adverse drug reactions...

maxthemartian · 27/05/2018 09:43

Another recommendation for Natracare here. I use the tampons and the pads. Keep meaning to switch to reusables.

CaveMaman · 27/05/2018 09:45

May I suggest cloth reusable pads? I have some cheeky wipes ones that I got because I read somewhere (probably mn) that they were more comfortable after giving birth. They are much more comfortable for normal periods too and I haven't had any issues.

You sound so uncomfortable, I hope you can get something to ease the discomfort.

VileyRose · 27/05/2018 09:47

I don't find extra washing bad at all. I have 4 children so do lots of washing and the amount of pads I use in a month really doesn't feel like it's much more.

Blackbinsack · 27/05/2018 09:47

Boots and Waitrose do an organic cotton brand and there no more expensive than the others or use reusable pads stopped all my pain

callmemaybe8 · 27/05/2018 09:49

This is one of the many reasons I hate pads. I always felt itchy whatever brand I used.

Tampons changed my life

Cockmagic · 27/05/2018 09:51

I can only get away with the Asda brand of pads, they're around 50p.

Believeitornot · 27/05/2018 09:52

I would write to Always direct- this thread has reminded me to do just that.

Ways to contact here

EBearhug · 27/05/2018 09:55

Not all Waitrose stock their own brand - my local one currently doesn't. Sainsbury's own-brand does long, winged ones.

EBearhug · 27/05/2018 09:59

Always are Proctor & Gamble. Canesten is Bayer. But I assume the big pharmaceutical companies will do products across the board (once patents are expired,) even if we don't know the brands.

Auldspinster · 27/05/2018 10:05

Own brand incontinence pads are an idea if you have a heavy flow. I used to get the asda ones.

ShakeShakeTheMuffin · 27/05/2018 10:07

I'd go to your GP. I had eczema on my vulva and found the Canestan with hydrocortisone (mentioned by a pp) really helped. I couldn't get it without a prescription.

KingLooieCatz · 27/05/2018 10:11

I use washables. No extra washing, I rinse them out in the shower (stand on them while I'm washing myself) and then just bung them in with a towel or bedding wash. I got some cheeky mamas off Amazon and I've never looked back. Wish I'd tried it years ago.

JsOtherHalf · 27/05/2018 10:11

These are the silk and satin options in Home Bargains, they are usually 59p a pack.

Always pads have made me bleed
murphys · 27/05/2018 10:12

Just had the exact same issue with dd15. She has always used Kotex since her first period. She would often say she felt sore, so she tried tampons and moon cup but she couldn't get on with them. Last month she started at school so a friend gave her, what we assume, was an Always pad. This poor kid was red raw when she got home. So that very day I ordered her reusable pads, but she hasnt started yet, she is now overdue. Wondering if this has something to do with her cycle going out a bit. You are fortunate in UK to have so many reusuables to choose from. We aren't in UK but the ones I have ordered her seem nice and look the best of what's available. I just hope she gets on with these, as there is no way I will let her suffer like that again. Was so sore ran a small bath with bicarbonate which did help a bit along with sudocreme. I just don't understand what the point is of scenting pads. Period blood doesn't smell, it's the reaction with the chemicals that causes it. And then to add even more to scent them....!

dangermouseisace · 27/05/2018 10:17

I wear in incontinence pad for running (mainly due to paranoia about leaking- I just feel safer!). I used Always a couple of times (unscented) and they literally stripped the arse off me. Tena lady don’t. I might investigate washables now though...
