to think this is one of the strangest things I've encountered?

So this morning on my way to work I went to the pharmacy for a box of Nurofen Plus, paid £7.29 for them and put the change into the pocket on my jeans at the front.

I was in our office upstairs in a big industrial building and realised the £10 note was no longer there, I looked around my desk thinking it may have fell to the floor but nothing around my. My Manager said to go and check my car as it may have fell out whilst I was driving, or I'd been short changed and hadn't realised, or indeed I'd thrown the £10 note in the bin outside the pharmacy with the packaging. On the way out I asked the girls on reception if anyone had handed it in, nothing.

So I went to the car and it wasn't there, came back inside, up the stairs, through a door and I kicked something in the floor. In the empty corridor on a plain blue carpet there it was, I'd kicked the £10 note and nearly slipped on it! It definitely wasn't there when I went out, I'd have seen it and I asked my Manager if anyone had put it there feeling sorry for me, but nope.

AIBU to think that is a totally weird series of events?!

What I think it's unreasonable is paying £7.29 for nurofen when you can get non branded identical pain killers for a fraction of that. Just be glad you didn't get robbed twice in a short space of time

AnnieOH1 · 25/05/2018 10:34

Weird!

Nurofen plus is ibuprofen and codeine don't think there are generics unlike paracetamol and codeine. :)

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 25/05/2018 10:35

7.29 for a box of painkillers.. as previous poster said, buy unbranded versions (compare the ingredients to the branded as you will see it's the exact same)..

BlueNeighbourhood · 25/05/2018 10:35

I bloody love Mumsnet AIBU for this exact reason. Let's talk Nurofen Plus rather than the actual subject.

Nurofen Plus has two brands to compete with - either Boots own brand Ibuprofen and Codeine which is £6.59 for 32, so a 70p saving, or Almus branded ones which are £6.29 and available in quite a few smaller chemists so a £1 saving. I'm hardly breaking the bank.

I think someone had found it and pocketed it. Was too embarrassed to admit it when you started asking about it and waited till you were outside and put it where you’d find it. I suspect your manager who sent you out to your car.

StealthPolarBear · 25/05/2018 10:42

Suspicious mind b it that was my dirty thought too

StealthPolarBear · 25/05/2018 10:42

First not dirty

GrasshopperLane · 25/05/2018 10:44

I think @NotARegularPenguin is on to something. Did someone have a chance of dumping the tenner after they realised you were searching

Cauliflowershower · 25/05/2018 10:44

I wonder if it was tucked up in your clothes somehow and you dropped it on your way out?

EddieTheBeagle · 25/05/2018 10:50

Sounds to me like someone strategically placed it there when they found out you were searching for it.

AjasLipstick · 25/05/2018 10:55

I reckon it was stuck to the bottom of your shoe. But not so you could feel it. Then when it unpeeled, you felt it.

BlueNeighbourhood · 25/05/2018 10:55

I think maybe you guys are correct, however it can't have been my Manager as she's been on a conference call all morning so no opportunity to move from her seat.

I have a feeling it's someone down on reception that maybe did it. Unless like someone said, it's fallen out of my clothing but I did search in every pocket!

UserV · 25/05/2018 10:58

What ten pound note?

UserV · 25/05/2018 10:59

You said you got a box of nurofen for £7.29, how come you had a tenner in the change? Did you use a 20?

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/05/2018 10:59

I find the new plasticy ones regularly find their way out of your pocket. a combination of them not bending and being slidey.

three options.

  1. It came out your pocket but was still on you somewhere and then dropped out on the way out to the car
  1. Someone picked it up and then felt guilt and dropped it for you to find
  1. Your tenner was gone but someone else dropped one and you found theirs

4. Ghosts

UserV · 25/05/2018 11:00

And yeah you are right that you cannot get anything the same as nurofen plus, much cheaper than the real thing.

Dancingtothebeat · 25/05/2018 11:02

I think it was probably either stuck to your shoe or clothing and had fallen off on the way down.

bellabelly · 25/05/2018 11:03

Giggling at Stealth's dirty thoughts...

SleepingStandingUp · 25/05/2018 11:03

How did she get a tenner change from 7.29??? Surely not that hard to figure out is it.

Could it have staticy stuck to you?

MsJinglyJones · 25/05/2018 11:07

Actually expensive Nurofen work better because they have a fancy packet and cost more - it's a version of the placebo effect, I saw it on Horizon or something.

So I sometimes get it for a really bad headache, though I usually get the cheapo ones. You could also get it once and put the cheapo ones in the Nurofen packet.

Science eh.

Still £7.29, I wouldn't pay that Shock was it Harrods pharmacy?

AnalUnicorn · 25/05/2018 11:11

Tesco sell 16 Ibuprofen tablets for 35p

Marmablade · 25/05/2018 11:12

Pocket creep I reckon. I've suffered a couple of times with tenners.

Nurofen Plus is where I spend my branded money. Own brand bog standard ibuprofen or paracetamol but for my codeine I need Nurofen. Tried co-codemol unbranded plus unbranded ibuprofen at the same time but there's less codeine in co-codemol than Nurofen Plus.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/05/2018 11:16

Wish I had a DH who dropped notes out his bum
