to think this is one of the strangest things I've encountered?

So this morning on my way to work I went to the pharmacy for a box of Nurofen Plus, paid £7.29 for them and put the change into the pocket on my jeans at the front.

I was in our office upstairs in a big industrial building and realised the £10 note was no longer there, I looked around my desk thinking it may have fell to the floor but nothing around my. My Manager said to go and check my car as it may have fell out whilst I was driving, or I'd been short changed and hadn't realised, or indeed I'd thrown the £10 note in the bin outside the pharmacy with the packaging. On the way out I asked the girls on reception if anyone had handed it in, nothing.

So I went to the car and it wasn't there, came back inside, up the stairs, through a door and I kicked something in the floor. In the empty corridor on a plain blue carpet there it was, I'd kicked the £10 note and nearly slipped on it! It definitely wasn't there when I went out, I'd have seen it and I asked my Manager if anyone had put it there feeling sorry for me, but nope.

AIBU to think that is a totally weird series of events?!

Tesco sell 16 Ibuprofen tablets for 35p

That's nice dear. But if you'd read as far as the second message in the thread you'd have realised that nurofen plus is ibuprofen and codeine.

x2boys · 25/05/2018 11:23

Christ there's some thick people on here Nurofen plus is not the same as ibuprofen tablets its codeine and ibuprofen rtft.

Dancingtothebeat · 25/05/2018 11:23

Boots generic Ibuprofen + codeine is exactly the same and a fraction of the price, which is only helpful if you can get to a Boots.

Roomba · 25/05/2018 11:23

Tesco sell 16 Ibuprofen tablets for 35p

That is utterly irrelevant as Nurofen PLUS contain 12.8mg of Codeine in each tablet. Which can't be bought for 35p in Tesco. Posters aren't understanding what the OP actually bought when they are making comments like this!

There is a generic ibuprofen/codeine 200mg/12.8mg that some pharmacies stock which is usually about £6.50, and there's a Boots version, which is £6.59 for 32. Or there's the Solphadeine Migraine tablets which have exactly the same ingredient as Nurofen Plus and are about £5.60 for 24.

Roomba · 25/05/2018 11:26

Boots generic Ibuprofen + codeine is exactly the same and a fraction of the price

It's around 70p cheaper for a pack of 32. I wouldn't say that was a fraction of the price.

x2boys · 25/05/2018 11:27

well the op said the boots version was 70 pence cheaper so yeah a bit cheaper but not a fraction of the price but my nearest boots is a mile or so away I have a chemist across the road ....

DaisyBD · 25/05/2018 11:34

co-codamol has 8mg of codeine per tablet and usually about £1.45 for 32 tablets in pharmacies although boots own brand paracetamol and codeine is £2.45 for some reason. it does have less codeine per tablet but you can take three at a time if necessary as long as you don't take more than eight in 24 hours because of potential liver damage. much cheaper

Dancingtothebeat · 25/05/2018 11:36

It’s cheaper at my local Boots (about £3,50) but that is attached to a hospital and oop north which might be why cheaper.

x2boys · 25/05/2018 11:39

it depends how many you are getting though , you can buy them in packets of 12,24 and 32 I think .

BlueNeighbourhood · 25/05/2018 11:42

This is quite funny now!

Boots own brand is £3.99 in every boots (and I live in the North and travel to London regulary and it's the same) for 16, or £6,59 for 32 of them.

Almus, which I discovered for the first time in Superdrug on Seven Sisters Road, was £6.00 maybe for 32.

These all contain 12.8mg of codeine plus 200mg of ibuprofen and eases the pain of a torn ligament in my shoulder from tennis. There are no other alternatives which contain the same amount of each part of the tablet.

I'm in the NW and Nurofen Plus costs 7.25 ish here as well. I'd willingly pay more if it a) had morphine in it b) actually worked for me (see a)) Sad I seem to be analgesic resistant, none of them work for me.

I plump for option d) ghosts, on the grounds that that's more interesting than the more plausible options. I've had similar things happen, with the single significant difference that there aren't any other people around to plant stuff when I'm not looking. So must be ghosts really. More likely a colleague

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 25/05/2018 11:51

Did you actually pay with a £20 or was it only a £10?

TheClitterati · 25/05/2018 11:52

I can never put notes in my pockets for this very reason.
Every time I am foolish enough to put a note in my pocket, off they fuck!

SpectacularAardvark · 25/05/2018 11:53

This is why I hate the new notes, slippy little bastards.

BlueNeighbourhood · 25/05/2018 11:54

I paid with a £20 note, stupidly I took the £20 note out of my purse before I left for work and shoved it in the back pocket of my jeans as it prevented faffing when I arrived at the pharmacy and going in the boot for my bag again.

I'm going with D. Ghosts too, just for something a bit different!

TheFreshPrincess0fBelair · 25/05/2018 11:56

Could someone be worried that you are skint and put a £10 where you could find it?

pigmcpigface · 25/05/2018 12:06

Those new notes are weird, and they do stick to some fabrics with static. I wonder if a PP is right that it was actually stuck to you all the time, and you noticed it when it finally fell down.

Either way, it's great you got your tenner!

Lweji · 25/05/2018 12:16

YABU to take codeine. It's the first step of medication abuse.

Wink

It's around 70p cheaper for a pack of 32. I wouldn't say that was a fraction of the price.

It's smaller than the unit, so a fraction of the price to be strict. Even 99/100 is a fraction.

BlueNeighbourhood · 25/05/2018 12:22

YABU to take codeine. It's the first step of medication abuse.

Lol if I want to take codeine I'll take it, it's available over the counter for mild to moderate pain relief and that is what I use it for. Massive generalisation there, well done!

I don't think anyone thought I was broke! Maybe gutted I'd lost a tenner like anyone would be but that's it.

Lweji · 25/05/2018 12:25

Maybe the codeine will help with the lack of sense of humour. Wink

Ofthread · 25/05/2018 12:26

I have found about £50 outside my house since the new notes came in. My house is about far enough from a cash machine for a banknote to work its way out of a back pocket

JammyDoughnuts · 25/05/2018 12:30

Maybe the codeine will help with the lack of sense of humour. wink

Grin Maybe it went wherever the tenner went?
ApolloandDaphne · 25/05/2018 12:51

Only on MN can you come and ask about strange thing with a tenner and end up being berated for being on the slippery slope to addiction!

bigKiteFlying · 25/05/2018 12:52

The new nots are pain for sticking to things.

I get told of for buying the Nuroen liquid tablets that seem to work quicker - the rare times I take them I don't fucking care if it's the fancy box making them seem to work quicker.

liz70 · 25/05/2018 13:02

Well, spirits can and do move objects (I have ample experience of it myself), so it's a possibility. But since there may have been other people about, and other factors that could have caused it, it's best not to presume anything like that just now. Just saying it happens, that's all.
