To think DH might get fired?!

NC for this.

Essentially DH fell asleep ah hour ago after being violently ill all night and morning; I've been sick as well so I think it's a bug. He was off one day last month but hasn't had time off before that for about three months. He asked if I'd call in for him so I did and the conversation went like this:

Him: 'Good morning X speaking how can I help?'
Me: 'Hi there, I'm calling to let you know that X'
Him: 'Sorry, who?'
Me:' Sorry, my line isn't too clear, I was calling to let you know X won't be able to come in this morning. He's been up all night being-'
Him: 'I don't want to hear it thanks, bye'

And then hung up. He didn't even let me explain why and sounded really mad. DH just had his days off for the week so I'm worried they'll think he's playing at it. Am I over thinking it or does this not look good?

Hopefully your DH is better now OP and work are all OK?

Agree sickness procedures aren’t always suitable for a one size fits all, the frequency ‘triggers’ don’t often take into account people with chronic conditions and sometimes life just happens…you might have terrible flu and then a month later trip and break your arm – two different absences but still classed as sickness, and it might flag up on the HR system that you are taking too much time off for sickness even though both are out of your control etc.

Also some people have jobs where they’re understaffed and sickness is frowned upon by management (although never officially, on record or in a way that could get them a tribunal..) and they push themselves to go in and get sicker in the process.

Some people are martyrs about it though…used to work in an office years ago where a guy was obsessed with having zero sick days, he’d always battle his way in and then moan all day about how awful he felt, but how he couldn’t take time off (he could though, he was always very ahead with his work). The final straw came in when he dragged himself in, nose streaming with snot, red eyes, could barely talk, absolutely dripping with sweat from the short staircase…his manager took one look at him and sent him home, she wasn’t impressed he’d come all the way in like I think he expected, just furious that he’d infect the rest of us!
