To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

Presumably they watch their calories and have personal trainers. As every photo is scrutinised and the media can be cruel I would imagine they want to keep slim for that reason. Both of them are quite tall and that helps I think.

reallyanotherone · 23/05/2018 22:43

It was a GP reallyanotherone, not a random internet weirdo. A GP is only concerned with unhealthily underweight people. To have suggested a female of that weight could be is extraordinarily strange

No, it isn’t. You don’t know the poster, her build, or her medical history. A GP is not only concerned with “unhealthily underweight” but in a general context too.

You can have an ED and not be underweight. Anorexics are good at disguising their issues by dressing a certain way to hide their shape.

Fwiw i was 8.5 st and 5’4, and firmly in the grip of an eating disorder.

Telling people on the internet they are a long way from thin is not helpful.

reallyanotherone quoted those statistics incorrectly SerenDippity

RunMummyRun68 · 23/05/2018 22:46

Late has had 3 healthy pregnancies and 3 natural births resulting in 3 healthy babies!

And you get some numpty worrying that she's probably not menstruatingHmm

RunMummyRun68 · 23/05/2018 22:46

*kate

SerenDippitty · 23/05/2018 22:49

Ok sorry.

I’m 5ft 2 and 9st 3lb and don’t look fat. I have a big frame, big hands, big feet, sprinter’s legs and wide shoulders. I looked thin at 8.5st.

PuttinOnTheRitzCracker · 23/05/2018 22:49

Not a “numpty”, thanks.
I didn’t say Kate, I said a few famous women in general.
It’s amazingly easy to not be rude, you know.

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 23/05/2018 22:49

Having a baby isn’t as clear cut as that. A close friend has suffered with anorexia since she was 17 (42 now) and has had 2 healthy children. She did have episodes of restricted eating with her first but manged go eat relatively normally with her second. Whilst fertility can decrease in underweight women it doesn’t mean they can’t get pregnant, it’s not that simple.

SerenDippitty · 23/05/2018 22:50

Menstruation isn’t necessarily a sign of optimum health. Look at the birth rates in countries where malnutrition is rife.

StellaRockafella · 23/05/2018 22:51

They're both naturally thin much like their mother. Look at Kate, then look at her sister Pippa and their mum Carol. All have the same slim build.
Now look at Meghan and her mother. Both have the same long very slim legs. Plus as others have said, Meghan's an actress who grew up in, and worked in LA. She's just a product of her genes and her environment.

Also, I think so many have lost sight of what naturally slim looks like.

This is a very strange thread.

Inertia · 23/05/2018 22:52

I've got several hens and I'm still overweight. Could the fashion photographer mentioned upthread please tell me where I'm going wrong?

SerenDippitty · 23/05/2018 22:53

Have you actually seen any photos of Kate when she was at college? She’s not naturally slim. And her mother diets too.

jeangeniebiglippedmeanie · 23/05/2018 22:53

What sprinkles failed to mention is that she is 5,9”......wide Wink

Jokes.

Anyway, no one can agree what is too thin and what is too fat. They have access to the best personal chefs, food, exercise equipment, trainers and classes etc. There is the small matter of being a clothes horse for fashion designers as well who don’t really want anyone who is a bit....soft round the edges wearing their clothes.

JoyceDivision · 23/05/2018 22:54

they won’t be currently standing in their kitchen eating left over risotto from the pan while mumsnetting...

SerenDippitty · 23/05/2018 22:54

Fashion designers hate short people too.

yourfavegorgon · 23/05/2018 22:56

true but it’s definitely fair to say that for many women if their BMI drops below a certain point their periods will stop. in eating disorder treatment it’s used as an indicator of being within a healthy weight range. Not saying it’s the only/most important marker of health but it’s something they use. And before anyone comes for me frothing at the mouth no I am not saying that the duchesses have eating disorders Hmm

Zoflorabore · 23/05/2018 22:56

I want a hen Grin

yourfavegorgon · 23/05/2018 22:58

When anyone remarks on anyone being thin you always get a clutch of posters who come on to tell us that everyone’s so obese nowadays we have no concept of being a healthy size Grin

yourfavegorgon · 23/05/2018 22:59

@SerenDippitty high end fashion designers hate short people
high st fashion designers hate anyone above 5’5

LoveforPGTipsMonkey · 23/05/2018 23:01

Camilla is not that thin, and hasn't changed herself since becoming a royal wife. Nor has the Queen been as thin as Kate and Meghan. Maybe because Camilla and Queen have busts!
Sarah obv was a bit overweight - but good for he husband that he didn't give a damn and chose the type he's attracted to.
So it's not just easy lifestyle - Eugenie and Beatrice aer naturally plump whatever lifestyle they have, we aer not all identikit.
It's more a question of, are the young princes attracted to very thin women, or are they the guys influenced by media/fashion for thinness.
P.S. Kate is extremely thin, I saw her at short distance near the palace. Meghan is MUCH shorter than Kate (always high heels) so for her height she's not as thin as Kate.

waterlego6064 · 23/05/2018 23:01

It would be nice to see more women in the public eye with a bit more muscle. These two are very slender. They both look lovely and healthy, but if I were their PT (just waiting on the phone call), I would be getting them to lift heavier!

LoveforPGTipsMonkey · 23/05/2018 23:01

*though I only saw her pre-kids.

MrsLupo · 23/05/2018 23:02

I'm really bemused by the number of people who say they think we've got so used to obesity we've lost sight of what a normal weight is. I'd say the opposite - that decades of obsession with weightloss, extreme fitness, prepubescent models etc has made us think dangerously thin people are somehow 'a normal weight'. I'm relieved other people on the thread are finding this a weird mumsnet thing too.

This is what a normal, healthy - even aspirational - weight looked like in the 1970s...

To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?
waterlego6064 · 23/05/2018 23:02

Michelle Obama always looked great in that respect. So toned and strong. Serena Williams likewise.

Ohmydayslove · 23/05/2018 23:02

They are no thinner then loads of women you see every day of the week.

Have you ever actually seen an anorexic person. It’s not thin it’s stop in your tracks shocking. On another level.

Ffs they look completely normal to me. Neither fat or too thin
