To wonder why both Duchesses are so thin?

Talking about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex. And ok, I know IABU, but I thought I'd namechange and put it out there to see if other posters agreed. Putting my tin hat on, as I know I'll get lots of criticism for my gossipy thread. Oh well!

Both Catherine and Meghan are beautiful women with naturally lovely figures. But they are both so so extremely thin! Right now Kate is less thin, I assume because of her recent pregnancy and new baby, but no doubt she'll bounce back to her usual skinniness soon.

Kate was nowhere this thin before getting engaged and married into the RF. Meghan has always been very slim, but is now thinner than ever and I bet she won't gain the weight back. I remember even Diana lost loads of weight as soon as she got engaged and married! And she stayed very thin from then onwards.

Why does it seem like extreme thinness is a prerequisite to be a royal wife?

I would say they are both very slim (or thin if you want to use that word), and they would have been considered so in the 'old days', when there were fewer overweight people. Olivia Newton John in Grease was still considered to be thin, for example, even though she wasn't much thinner than many other people at the time. She still stood out.
Having said that, that is their choice, they are in control of their own weight, no one else. Hopefully they put their health and well being first, ahead of opinions in the press and social media.

And the reality is that in public life, no one ever, ever does characterise fatness as normal

Are you serious? You’ve missed the continued message of ‘real women have curves’ that is bloody EVERYWHERE then?

ginny wow you’re a real prize.

FindoGask · 24/05/2018 14:50

@GinnyWreckin when you say "we", who do you mean? I wouldn't want to put myself anywhere near your demographic, by the sounds of it.

Annabelle4 · 24/05/2018 14:59

I haven't RTFT so maybe this has been said, but Kate has given birth to 3 babies who all weighed more than 8lbs, in the space of 5 years. Surely that means that she's healthy, not malnourished and not underweight? The lower end of a healthy bmi probably, but still healthy.

Pippa got the same criticism last year. She looks perfectly fine to me, just very athletic.

Yes they are 'thin', but I don't think it matters if you have money, a chef, a trainer etc, it still takes a huge amount of effort and discipline to be that slim. I wouldn't say it's easy

FluffingtonPost · 24/05/2018 15:00

Wow...there are some really, really horrible posts in this thread.

And OP, you can insist as many times as you like that you weren’t judging or being negative...but what did you honestly expect on a thread like this? And regardless, have any of the subsequent, very judgemental posters actually visited these women in person to take heir measurements, BMI and body fat measurements?? No? Didn’t think so.

Honestly, some of the posters on here should be bloody ashamed of themselves...

-gaunt
-scrawny
-emaciated
-matronly
-droopy boobs

Not to mention trawling through google images to find ages old photographs of the two of them to show how their bodies have changed...has your body remained the same from your teens through to your mid 30’s? Really?? Lots of women’s don’t.

Fucking disgusting, honestly. Way to make mumsnet look like the super supportive welcoming place it’s supposed to be...

This is a ridiculous thread - of course they look lovely, that's their job. Plenty of cash and plenty of spare time to think about how they look and be primped and preened and fitted for clothes. If you knew you were going to be photographed from every angle every time you put a foot out of doors that would be a fairy major incentive to stay in shape. And God help either of them if they put on an ounce or are photographed from an unflattering angle. Have a look at Sarah Ferguson in her Duchess of Pork days - she wasn't even fat, just fatter than Diana. Does anyone really expect them to just sit on their arses and eat whatever they want?

If William does abdicate Harry’s next in line

No, he’s not.

And now she’s not only ‘emaciated’ she’s ‘infertile’...unbelievable.

Horrible, horrible thread.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 24/05/2018 15:15

ginny ‘you sound like a prize’ is a personal attack but ‘droopy boobs’ is fair game? Give over.

As if you can tell someone’s fertility from appearances. It’s not the 1500s.

reallyanotherone · 24/05/2018 15:16

Actually fluffy, on some levels I do think this discussion needs to be had.

We are fed extremes. Celebs are super thin, that is their “normal”. Irl “normal” is now leaning toward the heavier side, especially no smoking is less common and being prescribed speed for weight loss is no longer ethical.

We have lost sight of “normal” eating. Low carb, high fat, low fat, low sugar, atkins, paleo, fasting, 5 small meals, blood sugar diets. Exercise also goes in phases, from aerobics to callisthenics, we’re always looking for a quick fix.

My dd is an elite athlete. Those kids eat a lot. When i watch them train there are one or two sprinters/throwers that look huge- tall, powerful, massive legs and shoulders- in their tiny outfits. Then they stand next to me in the cafe and they are teeny tiny in everyday clothes. A colleague watched my dd compete on a livestream and said “wow she’s so tall, and you’re only 5’4, is your dh tall?” Dd is 4’6 at 14!

What we see on tv is very different to rl.

reallyanotherone · 24/05/2018 15:18

Having said that i would just like to point out ginny is clearly talking bollocks..

FluffingtonPost · 24/05/2018 15:20

I do agree really , we have lost sight of normality tbh. And I think that’s at both ends of the scale (pun not intended). But maybe not with the title that this one has, which immediately has a negative spin.

What is not ok, is threads full of nasty comments and protestations of innocence over comments that are downright nasty in any scenario.

FluffingtonPost · 24/05/2018 15:21

Sorry, I seem to have missed a whole sentence there!

Should have said: Maybe the place for that conversation is not in a thread with the title this one has...

OneStepSideways · 24/05/2018 15:24

They both look a healthy weight to me. With obesity rates in the U.K. rising I think people often label healthily sized women as 'skinny' to make themselves feel slimmer.

I expect they both do lots of exercise, have personal trainers, dietitians, cooks etc to make it easier.

Juells · 24/05/2018 15:29

@GinnyWreckin

My goodness don’t tell me that NONE of you have ever looked at any scientific explanation of what a fertile woman looks like?

I didn't have an ounce of fat on me, either time I got pregnant, and I got pregnant the second we stopped using a condom. I was 28 the first time, 32 the second. Neither Kate nor Meghan are too skinny, they're what I'd consider normal weight. People have no inhibitions about accusing thin people of starving themselves, being 'scrawny', not being real women, it's OK to be insulting about them.

expatinscotland · 24/05/2018 15:36

'I think Chelsea will be heaving a sigh of relief knowing when the gloss has worn off, she can just be the mistress, and needn’t put a stop on her career, just to swan about and cut ribbons.'

She's not his mistress.

And Harry is almost entirely surplus to requirements as far as succession goes. If William abdicates George gets the throne, not Harry. Harry is already 6th in lie and if Kate has another he'll be 7th and every one of those kids is in front of him. When George has kids then that puts Harry further and further down.

Personally, I'd like to see the end of monarchy but at least confine the taxpayer handouts to the first two in line, it's not like they're a poor family.

'100% of all the guys I have spoken to fancy her and would not say no to a chance with her and her mixed race heritage just adds to that! '

So that must mean the entire hetero male population then Hmm. I've met plenty she does nothing for. Naturally, people are all different. A friend of mine likes 'a woman with a little meat on her' in his own words so Meghan is unattractive to him. Different strokes for different folks.

' he must have a thing for a hint of espresso hence why he married her and looks so much in love.'

I cannot believe you wrote that.

The80sweregreat · 24/05/2018 15:50

Old friend has a saying : if you need to know the price of something, you cant afford it and you can never be too rich or too thin!!

all a bit shallow, but if those girls were even a tiny bit overweight, then they would be ripped to shreds in the media, esp Meghan as the Mail seems to have it in for her i think- Kate looked a bit fuller in the face after having her third and it suits her , but i bet next outing she will be thinner again. having your own gym , pool and chef all helps too of course.

PrettyLovely · 24/05/2018 15:54

I agree Ginny is talking bollocks.
The way you describe her is nothing like what she actually looks like at all.

tenbob Meghan is hardly a size 8, esp considering she is not very tall. More of a 6 or even less (does a UK 4 even exist?!). Kate might be a 8, but given how tall she is that is very very thin!

I wonder whether we'll get the usual competitive skinniness now then.

And where in the world is size 6 'normal'??? Imo size 6 is underweight.
