Tattooed nurses

Would you be put off by a tattooed nurse? At the moment I’ve only got them in places a patient would never see but I do plan to add some to my upper arm in the near future.

Just want to hear your thoughts and reasons!

Prat -look up 'obtuse'.

But first you look up 'European'.

And then come back and tell us why it matters that other Europeans have fewer tattoos than British people and how that's relevant here in the UK

PratRocket · 24/05/2018 14:35

Interestingly, you see far fewer tattoed doctors in hospital....

Well it's hardly interesting. Hmm

Knowing that some people are quite bigoted about them many young people who are educating themselves to be doctors will avoid them, or maybe just get them where you have been invited to look.

Oh dear, Prat.

It's an observation that the people who inhabit Europe but who are not British (HTH) don't tend to feel the need to ink themselves as in much of Europe (the bit that isn't Britain) it's considered disfiguring; and on the Med, is seen to be an English Lager Lout thing.

ICantCopeAnymore · 24/05/2018 14:36

I hope my PhD doesn't turn me into a pompous twonk.

LanguidLobster · 24/05/2018 14:37

I think I'd do a double take if one had 'PAIN' tattooed across the knuckles. Or a dotted line saying 'cut here' on their neck. Or 'death ahoy!' on their forehead.

Then I'd just shrug.

Tansie1 · 24/05/2018 14:38

Or could it be that doctors are smart enough to realise that Ron Weasley on their bicep at 20 might look stupid at 40?

DailyMailClickbait · 24/05/2018 14:39

Tansie I've got Spanish friends and relatives. I see plenty of tatts on locals. It's not exclusively a British thing.

PratRocket · 24/05/2018 14:41

Yes, it's obviously an observation Hmm

But what it isn't, is an explanation of why certain Europeans are in your mind higher ranked than others, or aspirational? Or why you have chosen Europeans and not any other culture. You seem to have Europeans, the "proper ones" on some sort of cultural pedestal.

Tansie1 · 24/05/2018 14:43

the 4 most tattoed countries in the world

Obvs not verified! Grin

Tansie1 · 24/05/2018 14:43

Anyway, I'll leave it there. It's been fun.

Willow2017 · 24/05/2018 14:44

If i was considering getting a tattoo that meant something to me the fact that people in other european countries didnt have one would be the last thing on my mind.
Why the hell should what other europeans do gave any bearing on what any i individual in the uk does?

Scraping the bottom of the barrel to find reasons why women should not have tattoos arent we?

LooseyInTheSky · 24/05/2018 14:44

I'm currently sat next to a barrister at work with full sleeves of tattooed flames. Go for it OP!

So these people, not clever enough to be doctors? Or not European enough?

That still doesn't address your assertion that tattoos are viewed "on the Med" as a déclassé and English tradition associated with binge drinking.

ICantCopeAnymore · 24/05/2018 14:46

I recently changed GP. Mine is a friend of a friend. He's 33 and his forearms are covered in tattoos. I'm my experience, he practices with both sleeves rolled up.

He's the best GP I've ever seen. He's fantastic with my DS who has disabilities and is wonderfully kind, softly spoken and came highly recommended.

His tattoos are very much Ed Sheeran style - lots of different images jumbled in together. I've noticed a dice, a firefly and a quote in Welsh.

He's pretty smart.

PratRocket · 24/05/2018 14:47

Has it though?

woollyheart · 24/05/2018 14:47

It’s a matter of supply and demand. If there are lots of jobs available and not many qualified candidates, it won’t matter whether you have tattoos, piercings, blue hair etc.
If you are one of many people competing for a scarce job, anything can be used to discriminate, whether you are qualified or not.
Some types of discrimination are illegal, but body art is not protected in this way, so you have to put up with it.

LoveInTokyo · 24/05/2018 14:49

I am not remotely interested in whether a nurse has tattoos. They can get their whole body and face covered with lizard scales for all I care, as long as they are kind and competent.

PratRocket · 24/05/2018 14:50

Bearing in mind the many many universities educated --hipsters- people with tattoos at the moment I very much doubt it's going to be an issue for people long term.

ParisUSM · 24/05/2018 14:54

An aside- you don't see Europeans covered in tatts, do you?

Loads of Spaniards have tattoos, quite common on the lower leg.

I see an accent is now unacceptable at hoist's school, it really does sound a joy to work there.

I got a tattoo 20 years ago and another one last year, if I regret them I'll cover them up.

DarlingNikita · 24/05/2018 14:59

Possibly. Grin Yes, it's hard to say isn't it?

I don't have a PhD, although all the people I know who do have them don't feel the need to drop the fact into conversations. Or be snide to people who don't.

Oh, and I'm not one of the whiny-inked (just one of the ill-educated). It's not just people with tattoos that you're pissing off.

DarlingNikita · 24/05/2018 14:59

An aside- you don't see Europeans covered in tatts, do you?

What an utterly bizarre thing to say.

Just in one episode of Strictly, where nearly all the male pros are from mainland Europe, there is basically wall-to-wall tattooage.
