Just wondering if anyone has read an AIBU and realised it was about them.

Having read so many AIBU threads that are really specific situations and and the fact that the Mumsnet community is so huge, has anyone ever been called out on an AIBU and had the person you're talking about comment on your thread?

Or, have you found an AIBU about you?

I was just about to post an AIBU but the person it's about, I suspect, is on here. I reconsidered as I don't think I'd know what to do is she read it.

No but I did post some personal information once about my family history, and another poster replied saying, what a coincidence, same as me, etc etc. The other poster turned out to be my sister!

Not exactly. But I was recognised by a friend. She told me she'd seen the thread and asked me about it. I had to admit it was me, she knew anyway, I just confirmed it. The thread wasn't in any way about her though. Never name changed so fast in all my time on here!

Yep. It was my co worker whinging about how shit I was at my job and how to get me sacked but she didn't know my dad had just died and actually it formed the basis of a constructive dismissal.

I guess that's another thing, I wonder how many people we've had conversations with in RL but just don't realise it.

Or who we've walked past in the supermarket that we've had a row with on here. I'm quite abused thinking about it.

I once read a post on here that was definitely about me, a quick advanced search confirmed that I knew the poster as she had posted quite identifying information previously. It was completely inaccurate and hurtful to read and gave rise to months of anxiety - and still upsets me if I stop to think about it.
If you are trying to analyse a situation and get a different perspective that's one thing, but to put your own interpretation on someone else's actions and calling the insulting names on a public forum then you need to be prepared for the fall-out. That's not to say you woud insult them, I'm just speaking from my own experience!

I was recognised by a friend in the early days of me posting on MN because I used a similar name to one I used on another forum.

I was going to post a ranty thread about DB's ex-wife once but didn't in case she is on here. I think she is more likely to be on NetHuns, but still.

And honey's post is a good reminder of how careful we need to be. I read a thread recently where the OP posted so much detail about herself I got quite concerned that someone might recognise her.

I’m always curious about this too. Some people post extremely specific details and I wonder if it has reprocussions in their real life.

I think even if you change details you can't change enough so that the person you're talking about won't recognise it unless you change so much you're not really going to get good advice! It's hard!

Not on AIBU but definitely on the baby name boards. I've also pondered things, googled them and found that I've had a years old thread about them on MN Blush

I recognised someone once who was requesting advice about her DD. I had given advice in RL and was delighted to see other people giving the same advice here.

I never told her I knew and have never looked to see any other posts she's made.
