Just wondering if anyone has read an AIBU and realised it was about them.

Having read so many AIBU threads that are really specific situations and and the fact that the Mumsnet community is so huge, has anyone ever been called out on an AIBU and had the person you're talking about comment on your thread?

Or, have you found an AIBU about you?

I was just about to post an AIBU but the person it's about, I suspect, is on here. I reconsidered as I don't think I'd know what to do is she read it.

Just curious

Namechange every thread.

I've recognised someone on here with certainty but as a pp said I haven't looked at their posts etc. I would feel uncomfortable doing it.

Not on AIBU but in relationships.

Not recognised myself on a thread, but I had someone work out my name and track my posts, feeding back everything I said to MIL. That was a bit uncomfortable. I name change regularly now.

Be really, really careful if you use the baby names forum and preferably name change for it if you use actual names.

MIL found me that way several years ago - she'd searched for the names we'd picked on Google once we announced! I guess there weren't many combinations of the first and middle name we picked! Either that, or as it was a recent post, it floated to the top of search results.

I haven't, buti have read threads and wonder if i have a twin sometimes cause their concern/moan/worry is identical to mine!

I have wondered the same, I posted in AIBU a few months ago and it ended up in the 'discussions of the day' thing for about 3 minutes and I genuinely panicked that I was going to be outed and have my sister-in-law sticking pins in tiny effigies of me.

I often think about this too. Some things people post are very specific and I've often thought a close friend or family member could easily identify. Maybe people change some details, for example change DS to DD?

Alexkate2468 · 24/05/2018 12:07

It's really easy to fall under the illusion of anonymity here and that what you say online won't filter back to RL. I've never name changed but maybe I should.
