Given that Labour can't even decide what a woman is, or follow their own bloody policies. Perhaps Maria Miller MP should change to their side..., why should anyone give a thought to 52% of the population after all?

For those who missed it, David Lewis did this to make a point;

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/05/meet-the-man-standing-to-be-a-labour-party-womens-officer/

Personally I'm of the opinion that a woman is an adult person of the female sex, but then I'm not a "woke" Brocialist tosser.

Things have now moved on to this, as Labour was VERY cross with him, as he clearly wasn't being Trans enough Confused. After all, they already have a male-born woman's officer (no surgical changes/hormones etc) who has come out as a lesbian - that's sincerity for you!

Dear Jezza, I wouldn't trust you and your pals to run the school fete.

I’ve never voted tory, but I will if they commit to opposing self ID and to retaining sex based exemptions in the equality act

Me too

Lottapianos · 23/05/2018 12:54

'Dear Jezza, I wouldn't trust you and your pals to run the school fete.'

Totally agree. Bunch of absolute bloody muppets. I'm so disgusted with so many things when it comes to Corbyn

I will vote Tory over my own dead body. The Lib Dems are just as bad for trans nonsense and the Greens can shove off with their 'non men' crap. So I'm politically homeless too. I voted Labour in the recent local elections but I did not feel good about it. I really don't think I could stretch to voting for them in a General Election. It's a crappy feeling

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/05/2018 12:59

No way would I vote for the Tory party whatever they say about self ID.

I both respect that and understand it. I’m a working class, red from the cradle leftie who grew up in a northern pit town during the miners strikes.

But that is how strongly I feel about this issue. That I will vote for someone that is completely opposed to my views socially and economically if it will block this. I believe this is the biggest threat to women’s rights and to child safeguarding in decades. Possibly a century.

If there’s a independent candidate opposing I will vote for them, unless it means the labour candidate gets in. I dont know what else to do.

Xenia · 23/05/2018 13:16

Good spectator article on the first post.

SuitedandBooted · 23/05/2018 13:19

Borrowed from another poster:

^Labour Party: "Finally after months of deliberation, our policy is that any man who self-identifies as a woman may take up the roles reserved for women in the party".

2 hours later:

Labour Party: "No, not you David. You are suspended for following our policy".

Omnishambles, is that the word?

And the great thing is that this is just the start. There is so much comedy to look forward to in the future with Labour as they try to wrestle the self-ID #nodebate beast without reference to material reality.^

I wouldn't trust Corbyn to find his own arse with a map and a flashlight.

Justanotherlurker · 23/05/2018 13:27

He was doing to take the piss out of labour, they have however suspended him

busyboysmum · 23/05/2018 13:33

I’m a lifelong labour voter but they will not be getting my vote again until they (or indeed if they) stop attempting to damage women’s rights, boot out the anti Semitic lot and get a healthy dose of reality to start working for the workers and people of this country again

I’ve never voted tory, but I will if they commit to opposing self ID and to retaining sex based exemptions in the equality act. While I’m opposed to their economic policies I genuinely feel this is a generational issue and it’s important enough to vote strategically on.

Yup me too. It's that important to me that the word "woman" actually continues to mean something.

Ohmydayslove · 23/05/2018 13:40

Yes agree. Corbyn is destroying the Labour Party but I think that was his plan anyway

KERALA1 · 23/05/2018 13:40

Feel the same as so many on this thread. Always thought of myself as slightly left leaning brought up anti Tory so that goes deep (parents teachers in the 80s). But I cannot vote for any party going along with self id. I can't square it in my mind on any level. The only voices in opposition raised are moderate Tories. Who the hell do we vote for?

Moonkissedlegs · 23/05/2018 13:46

Labour have dug themselves into a right old hole over this one haven't they? They literally don't give a fuck about women and they are willing to make themselves look totally inconsistent and incompetent as long as they are woke enough.

No thanks, fuck you Labour.

Lottapianos · 23/05/2018 13:52

'They literally don't give a fuck about women and they are willing to make themselves look totally inconsistent and incompetent as long as they are woke enough'

Agree. It's truly pathetic

Truscum · 23/05/2018 13:56

This is where I am at right now, and having family with disabilities it sent a decision I take lightly.

But I (and those family members) have said that once women’s rights and ability to seperate themselves physically and legally from men is gone...it would be a hell of a fight and a few lifetimes to get it back.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/05/2018 14:25

Yes I agree completely. To reverse legislation when people have staked careers on it is not going to happen. It has to be stopped now.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 23/05/2018 14:35

Labour losing women- and many more on Wednesdays

Bombardier25966 · 23/05/2018 14:41

Oh joy, another trans/ Labour bashing thread. And someone dropped in anti semitism too. Bingo!

Please stick to the Bigots Dresses Up As Feminism board. When you spread your vitriol elsewhere it gives the forum a very bad name.

merrymouse · 23/05/2018 14:46

Bombardier, perhaps you could address some of the points raised.

The point of a democracy is that we should be free to criticise any political group.

merrymouse · 23/05/2018 14:48

You might also not be aware that posters on Mumsnet hold a range of political views and that discussion is often animated.

So being anti-semitic and pro self ID is wrong so you'd vote for a party that drives disabled people to attempt suicide and will do anything to make sure they don't claim benefits they're legally entitled to? I understand why you might not vote Labour for the reasons you stated, but surely you can't justify voting Conservative instead?

Don't know what other realistic options there are, if you feel that voting Labour is throwing women under a bus, but throwing people with disabilities under instead is not the way.

lostinsunshine · 23/05/2018 14:57

Bombadier- please set out your answers to genuine concerns about Labour 's attitude to protecting women who have had the disgusting privilege of being born women.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/05/2018 15:02

but surely you can't justify voting Conservative instead?

Your concerns re: the disabled are ones I share. I’m very unhappy with the atos situation and austerity in general. Disabled people are being treated dreadfully under the current government.

I do not want to vote conservative. I do not share their economic or social outlook. What I will do is vote tactically to ensure that labour do not get in - and if that means voting tory as a one off I will. I genuinely think this issue is a once in a generation one.

It’s not a call I’ve made lightly. But if this goes through then all women will be badly affected. I can’t not act. And there’s no alternative I can see - if I find an independent candidate who opposes ill vote for them.

BawbagWilbury · 23/05/2018 15:06

An interesting read:

Amanduh · 23/05/2018 15:07

I agree. Once upon a time I’d have been disgusted to even contemplate a Tory government again but weighing up all my options and tactical votes etc and wanting to exercise my vote I can see that’s where I’ll end up putting the cross on the ballot.
Jeremy Corbyn is destroying the party. I couldn’t ever vote for a party with him in power... and I’d say 80% of Labour voters I know feel the same.

Xenia · 23/05/2018 15:28

We need "Yes Minister" and "Spitting Image" back weekly on our TV screens both to cover the Brexit mess up and also the self declaration of sex ridiculousness and despite being a Tory I am afraid it is the Tories who have proposed this so although you would all indeed be much better off under May than Corbyn, I am not sure the gender issue should be your deciding factor.

SuitedandBooted · 23/05/2018 15:45

I know Maria Miller MP for Basingstoke proposed it, but the wider Tory party do not appear to have embraced Self Id with the enthusiasm shown by Corbyn & Co. Hence I will not vote Labour now.

I believe the formal Consultation is supposed to take place before the HOC rises for the summer recess - best keep an eye out!

And totally yes to "Spitting Image" - I think LM would be fun....!
