Ok, so I know the wedding was three days ago and I should really move on but...

I can't stop wondering how it must feel to be Lord Freddie's Windsor or Lady Helen Taylor and be watching Harry's wedding on tv (Harry who you grew up with at Kensington Palace in the case of Freddie) and see David's Beckham chewing gum at your cousin's wedding (second, once removed, but still!) and you're not invited!!!

George bloody Clooney, Oprah Winfrey - right up in the inner sanctum with the royals and you're not invited!

Even to be the first cousins on Diana's side and be sitting back in the cheap seats while George Clooney (who surely isn't a close friend of either of H or M) hams it up at the front? Oprah Winfrey who I feel pretty confident Harry hasn't never met takes precedence over these people?

I'd love to know who drew up the seating plan and what the discussions were that led to these bizarre placements.

On a side note, I'm not the only one who saw DB chewing gum in the chapel am I?

Heratnumber7 · 22/05/2018 10:02

Maybe they've fallen out?

And yes, DB was chewing gum Angry

Roystonv · 22/05/2018 10:10

Quite a few were chewing gum, horrid and yes I agree about the guest list and the seating plan but as others will say their day their way.

spookytime · 22/05/2018 10:11

Nicorette I bet!

GalwayWayfarer · 22/05/2018 10:12

Honestly so tired of these threads. We have no idea how the couple met or got to know the majority of their guests so why speculate just because in your (very limited) view of the situation, the order of precedence wasn't right?!

I have no idea if George Clooney knows Harry, but Amal is a friend of Meghan's so obviously they were invited.

And apart from the inner sanctum where family and very close friends sat, there was no seating arrangement in the chapel (as discussed by one of the guests who talked to the BBC about how lucky they were to have left their seats to use the loo and then returned to find them filled and so found better ones near the cellist) so if Harry's cousins wanted better seats they should have got there a bit earlier.

It isn't all some shallow, celeb-fuelled plot to prioritise movie stars over family Hmm

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 22/05/2018 10:12

I've been wondering why at William & Kate's wedding all the men from the royal family wore uniform but only Harry and William did at Harry and Meghans. Apparently the wedding invite stated they could be worn, is it because Harry isn't directly in line for the throne like William?

itswinetime · 22/05/2018 10:13

Weren't all the celebs in the inner part on meghans side? Keeping in mind she only had her mum as family, if she wanted to fill her side with celeb friends go for it why should Harry's family take over! And I don't really care how many times she's met them If that's who she wanted there then go for it.

As for the ones not invited that's down to the bride and groom really maybe they aren't close, maybe they want celebs there, maybe they actually prefer the celebs to their family! I can't get too worked up over second cousins once removed or whatever they are I'm mean how many of that level of the family even are there I'm betting a lot more than 2?

Beckham and the gum was gross, though joss stone was worse she was chewing it with her mouth open Envy < not envy

UtterlyDesperate · 22/05/2018 10:14

I wasn't invited to my first cousin's wedding. Meh. They had other people they wanted there more - no skin off my nose.

Chewing the cud in humans, however, should be punished by lifetime imprisonment AngryGrin

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 22/05/2018 10:15

Joss stone was worse!

MightyMucks · 22/05/2018 10:20

Lady Helen Taylor is a much older distant cousin.

As for Freddie Windsor, if he wants to blame anyone he should blame his mother. If you’re prepared to make overtly racist gestures towards the bride then you can’t expect an invite to the wedding for you or your family.

By all accounts the families never particularly got along when they lived at KP and Princess Michael has said some shitty stuff about Diana in the past.

KhalliWalli · 22/05/2018 10:23

Oprah was probably invited by Meghan’s Mum. I did wonder about Melons. Her daughter was invited though, I think? And her mum, the racist one? And what about Viscount Linley?

KhalliWalli · 22/05/2018 10:24

Joss Stone is a good friend of Harry.

Staying · 22/05/2018 10:26

Traditionally one side is for bride's guests, the other for the groom's.

araiwa · 22/05/2018 10:28

They were very unreasonable not to consult op- a person who admits they know nothing about the couple, their friends or arrangements

Confused
HerMajestysSecret · 22/05/2018 10:29

They had 600 guests. They couldn't squeeze a few royal cousins in quietly at the back? That's a snub.

SandyY2K · 22/05/2018 10:31

Amal Clooney is Meghan's friend. As is Serena Williams... even though I know you never mentioned her.

Oprah has become close to Meghan's mum in recent times and Becks is a mate of Harry's. Chewing gum wasnt great. Him and Joss Stone.

Closeness trumps relationships I guess.

He didn't invite the other Royals...because they clearly aren't close.

GalwayWayfarer · 22/05/2018 10:31

I didn't invite all my first cousins and not one second cousin or cousin removed (and I had a ridiculous and OTT number of 200 guests).

HerMajestysSecret · 22/05/2018 10:31

Viscount Linley is now the Earl of Snowdon and yes, he was there.

OP posts:
LaurieMarlow · 22/05/2018 10:35

I didn't invite any second cousins to my wedding. Actually, I left a fair few first cousins off the list too because I'm not that close to them. I don't think that's unusual.

I would have invited George Clooney too if there'd been any chance he would have shown up. Grin

It's all just a circus to keep us entertained and I suspect most viewers get more out of seeing a few high profile celebs than minor royals and random aristos.

HerMajestysSecret · 22/05/2018 10:36

Lady Helen Taylor is a much older distant cousin. As for Freddie Windsor, if he wants to blame anyone he should blame his mother. If you’re prepared to make overtly racist gestures towards the bride then you can’t expect an invite to the wedding for you or your family.

Helen Taylor and her children frequently appear on the balcony at Buckingham
Palace for things like Trooping of the Colour, so not that distant. They also attend the pre-Christmas lunch with all the other royals.

Are you preferring to the brooch incident? Princess Michael of Kent was there. It was her children who weren't invited.

Bearhunter09 · 22/05/2018 10:36

Hey if I had the chance for George clone to come to my wedding I’d happily get divorced and remarried (obviously to my currebtvDH) he’d get an invite to the day and evening do. I’d let him bring his kids. Feed him a proper meal and at no point ask for a monetary gift! George if you’re reading this I’ll even let you nominate a tune for the DJWink

Bearhunter09 · 22/05/2018 10:38

Clooney obvioviously (although will make do with a clone)

GalwayWayfarer · 22/05/2018 10:41

I've seen people in the last few days criticising them for not inviting distant family, nightmare close relations, school friends, corner shop workers (that one was particularly Hmm), foreign dignitaries, etc as nauseam. Clearly everyone has a different idea of who should and shouldn't have been there. If every opinion were to be accommodated The chapel at Windsor would have needed to seat about five thousand.

Whose to say who is right?! We can't all be. So maybe we should just accept that it was up to the couple who they invited and leave it at that, eh?

SheSparkles · 22/05/2018 10:42

If I were to have another wedding there are several close relatives I’d leave off the list very happily, and invite friends who are involved in my life. Just because you share a bloodline doesn’t mean they have a right to anything! (I’m very aware I have a very large chip on my shoulder about the behaviour and “support” from some relatives!)

InsomniacAnonymous · 22/05/2018 10:43

KhalliWalli* "I did wonder about Melons. Her daughter was invited though, I think? And her mum, the racist one?"

Lady Helen Taylor (née Windsor) is the daughter of Katherine, Duchess of Kent not Princess Michael of Kent.

pacer142 · 22/05/2018 10:43

Simple answer - minor royals are all about the "sleb" culture, after all, they're basically just z list celebrities themselves.
