Partner and dog!!

AIBU thinking my partner is a bit strange. When it comes to his dog he adores it speaks to it in a high pitched squeaky voice like you would a child. Never leaves it alone always living it. Yet when it comes to kids or babies he's not interested at all all. Just says oh.

Is this weird!!

nellieellie I love that your dogs 'have' accents! We're convinced that our cat is constantly swearing at us with really foul language ("Clean my tray, you f*s!", "Why is my bowl empty, C**tface? Fill it. FILL IT! Don't look at me, you don't deserve to LOOK AT ME!")

amusedbush · 21/05/2018 10:00

I like my dog wayyy more than any child I've ever met. I like him more than most people including DH some days and I'm not sorry in the slightest!

He's delightful, gives me kisses when I'm upset and doesn't roll his eyes at my brilliant puns.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 21/05/2018 10:02

No it's not weird at all. My dog was my child to me and I preferred her company over any child. Kids are not the be all and end all to a lot of people.

harriethoyle · 21/05/2018 10:07

Lolling at @nellieellie (my dogs accents are 1) really camp and fabulous and 2) gruff and a bit grumpy about life!) and @Bristolgrrl my cat is also verbally abusive, particularly when I change food brands according to what's on offer 🤣

Kee80 · 21/05/2018 10:08

Sounds like you all love your doggies and they have lovely caring homes which is brilliant.

Maybe I'm the weird one then cos I prefer babies and children to dogs haha. Suppose we're all different.

I strongly suspect that most people on here are like this about their own children and pets (i.e. living things which are dependent on us). I adore my children and my dog and coo over them in the way it sounds as though you DP does over his dog - well just the dog these days as the kids are teenagers, lol! I do not adore anyone else's children or pets enough to coo over them. I don't think you're weird for liking babies and children more than dogs, but I do think it's slightly odd to like other people's babies and children more than your own (or partner's) dog.

auditqueen · 21/05/2018 20:37

I'm the same. Love my dog. Love all other dogs. Put me in a room with a hundred puppies and I'd be in my element.

Put me in room with just one child and I'll leg it WinkGrin

whiteroseredrose · 21/05/2018 20:40

I love my dog too. We all adore him. Some DC not so much!

NoTNoShade · 21/05/2018 20:41

I wasn’t a dog or animal person until I got my dog. I was the least on board I think.

Now I’m obsessed with her and my dc know she’s the favourite.

SweetCheeks1980 · 21/05/2018 20:43

I love all my dogs more than most people excluding my partner and my own children.
Other people's kids are 'meh' but other people's dogs are equally beautiful. I just prefer dogs...actually most animals...to humans.

Shampooeeee · 21/05/2018 20:52

Dogs are better than people.

SomeKnobend · 21/05/2018 21:00

Normal. If he ever has kids he will be more interested in them than his nieces and nephews, it's just not the same.

TemptressofWaikiki · 21/05/2018 21:04

OP, you actually sound a bit jealous over your DP's dog. And goady.

bigsighall · 21/05/2018 21:19

I love my dog more than any child I’ve ever met Grin

smallchanceofrain · 21/05/2018 21:21

Perfectly normal. I love my dog way more than I love most children.

Maelstrop · 21/05/2018 21:24

My DH complained the other day that the dog gets more kisses than him Blush It’s true. Sometimes, if I can’t sleep, I’ll go into the spare room, knowing the dog will come up when really, if I made the effort, I would go back to,sleep more quickly if I just stayed where I was. Blush

GalwayWayfarer · 21/05/2018 21:41

I'm much gushier over my pets than other people's kids! Not at all weird (unless they're his own kids in which case it might be a bit weird)

Kee80 · 21/05/2018 21:48

Well I'm just not that into dogs... sorry. I love cats but not dogs.

I couldn't ever imagine liking a dog over a child either. Specially my nieces and nephews.

That's just my opinion.. but each to there own

OP posts:
UpstartCrow · 21/05/2018 21:50

I don't love other people's children. I can't imagine being into them, any more than I love all adults indiscriminately.

Kee80 · 21/05/2018 21:55

@UpstartCrow I don't love other people's children either that would be weird.

I'm referring to family!

OP posts:
VetOnCall · 21/05/2018 21:55

I don't see what's odd about someone being more interested in their own dog than other people's children. I like most of my friends' kids well enough but they don't mean the same to me as my dogs, who live with me, are my responsibility, my companions etc. If it was my own kids I'd probably be equally as interested in them Grin

Wolfiefan · 21/05/2018 21:58

You love cats. Why can't you see he feels the same way about this dog? Ultimately it is each to their own. But if you can't understand each other at all then maybe you're just not compatible.

alwaysiero · 21/05/2018 21:58

How a man treats his dog is all I need to know about him.

AlexaAmbidextra · 21/05/2018 22:01

I’m like your partner but with me it’s cats. I wouldn’t walk from one side of a room to the other to see a baby/child but if it was a kitten.......😻

Kee80 · 21/05/2018 22:06

@Wolfiefan yes I do like cats but don't treat them like a child, just see them as pets. Wouldn't give them more attention than actual family members!

After 13 years together than maybe we're not compatible.. you could be right 😂
