To be proud that they're Duke and Duchess of Sussex?

I'm a born and bred Brightoner. I know this doesn't mean anything - I.e they're not going to be rocking up in Churchill square. But tbh, it made me just that little bit prouder of our Duke and Duchess Halo

Yabu. But then I hate the royal institution Grin

sussex1234 · 20/05/2018 01:11

Ah, @siwel123. As a full blown lefty, if they were suddenly introduced to me now, I'd hate them too. But I've grown quite fond of the little fuckers Grin

@Susse1234. They've corrupted you Grin. They need to an like duke of hull. Duchess of sunderland. That'd would put them in line with the UK Grin

BelieveAnything · 20/05/2018 01:30

YABU

Brighton is cool. Be proud of Brighton but don’t be proud of them. They haven’t done anything.

BitOfFun · 20/05/2018 01:34

I'm a republican, but I have to admit that they certainly HAVE done some worthwhile things. And I liked that they asked for no gifts but contributions to a list of charities, including unfashionable ones like lifting the taboo on menstruation.

EveningHare · 20/05/2018 01:36

But why ?
It's meaningless, couple of posh people who might deign to visit....
It doesn't mean anything

(Sorry to sound so negative, but I just dotn 'get' royalty, titles etc - they're just people)

sussex1234 · 20/05/2018 01:41

Dunno. Just love 'em. And too pissed on celebratory prosecco to argue any well formulated points Blush

Sending a Sussex hug to ya

Although.... technically I don't think Brighton is Sussex anymore...

Brighton and Hove, though part of East Sussex, was made aunitary authorityin 1997, and as such, is administered independently of the rest of East Sussex.

user764329056 · 20/05/2018 01:47

And apparently there was a present list for the nearest and dearest with gifts of c.20k from some Soho design company, so they’re not totally altruistic

ODFOD. Brighton is Sussex' capital city. And HRH harry and Meghan are our prince and princess. Granted, we've got a number of other fine princes (and queens). But them two are ours also. So do one,

P.S. big Sussex hug back xox

Ah, let's not quarrel...remember, LOVE IS FIRE or something Grin

Notmyrealname85 · 20/05/2018 02:28

Nope! Family who nick our money and try and make us feel grateful about it

ForalltheSaints · 20/05/2018 08:07

I have many happy memories of Sussex and if it makes people aware of the county and the lovely places to visit in it, so much the better.

Brighton Pavilion
Chanctonbury ring
Devils Dyke
Lewes (not just for the fireworks)
Bodiam Castle
Arundel Castle

to name a few

SerenDippitty · 20/05/2018 08:11

I’m a very proud Welshwoman but not proud that Charles is Princ3 of Wales!

traciebanbanjo · 20/05/2018 08:18

Greedy fuckers getting both east and west

DarklyDreamingDexter · 20/05/2018 08:22

It's just a courtesy title, nothing to do with Sussex. It comes with no land and was just one of several vacant dukedoms the Queen chose from. Nothing to be proud of on someone else's behalf!

Samcro · 20/05/2018 08:45

i was pleased they got that title, just so Sussex get a mention more.
and Brighton is still in east sussex. (well I hope, so if not I write my address wrong)

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 20/05/2018 08:49

I’ll fight you for them. I’m in West Sussex. They could’ve got wed in Chichester cathedral Grin

waterlego6064 · 20/05/2018 08:49

I’m not a massive fan of royals, but this has pleased me too! I do hope they’ll come and visit.

Peterrabbitscarrots · 20/05/2018 08:55

I’m more amused at the baron of kilkeel thing. I’ve visited it a few times (DH family) and it’s an absolute dump. Awful, sectarian fishing town in NI

SaucyJack · 20/05/2018 08:59

Meh.

I'd rather have Mike Tindall as our frontman.

roseblossom75 · 20/05/2018 09:36

I've never understood that.

traciebanbanjo · 20/05/2018 20:17

Was given a Scottish title in an area that's very SNP and anti royal, doubt he will ever vist

YerAuntFanny · 20/05/2018 20:20

I'm still confused why they are Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Earl and Countess of Dumbarton Confused

Just seems greedy to me although if they'd ever seen the bloody place I doubt they'd want it given the choice Wink
