I'm a born and bred Brightoner. I know this doesn't mean anything - I.e they're not going to be rocking up in Churchill square. But tbh, it made me just that little bit prouder of our Duke and Duchess Halo

FuzzyCustard · 20/05/2018 20:31

No no BitofFun FIRE is Instagram. Or the Iron Age.

FuzzyCustard · 20/05/2018 20:32

Also I can trace my direct ancestry back to Sussex in the 12th Century. Please may I be your Duchess? better credentials than any Royal

Dumbledoresgirl · 20/05/2018 20:37

Brighton is Sussex' capital city.

Like hell it is. It is Chichester or Lewes, depending on whether you are west or east.

duchessofsussex · 20/05/2018 20:39

One is very pleased to be the Duchess of Sussex.

EveningHare · 20/05/2018 20:40

Oh that's interesting

Modern local authority areas

Administrative area Administrative seat
Population

East Sussex Lewes 527,200
West Sussex Chichester 808,900
Brighton and Hove 273,400
Total1,609,500

FuzzyCustard · 20/05/2018 20:46

Brighton is Sussex' capital city

Counties don't have capital cities...only County Towns.

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/05/2018 20:46

Duke/Duchess of Sussex doesn't mean it has anything to do with Sussex. Duke of Devonshire's "seat" is in Derbyshire!

sussex1234 · 20/05/2018 20:50

Was only joking about the capital city thing BlushGrin

Another Sussex hello!

Although I’m actually from Cambridgeshire so I claim Wills, Kate, the children AND Hazza & Meg.

They’re mine. All mine!

daimbars · 20/05/2018 20:55

YANBU I'm a Brightoner too and pleased to have them as our Duke and Duchess. They will probably send their kids to Brighton College, already checked out the website to see if I can afford to send DD there (no).

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 20/05/2018 20:56

Maybe they should set up home in the Brighton Pavilion?

LakieLady · 20/05/2018 21:01

I bet they haven't learned the words to Sussex By The Sea yet! Can't call yourself a South Saxon until you do imo.

SomeKnobend · 20/05/2018 21:17

Can we give them Arundel Castle to live in? It's very, very nice, they'd like it. I think it's already occupied by the duke of Norfolk, but I think the Norfolks could probably be found a home somewhere suitable in bloody Norfolk obviously.

blackteasplease · 20/05/2018 21:20

Brighton must be one of the most republican places. I'd have thought, anyway!

MissWimpyDimple · 20/05/2018 21:43

Also true Brightoner and yes I'm a little proud 😍

MissWimpyDimple · 20/05/2018 21:43

*Brightonian!

TheFoodtheFadandtheFugly · 20/05/2018 23:57

I think it's good too, but I wish the media weren't going to use the obvious pun in the title.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 21/05/2018 00:02

Pride is for when you have done/achieves something, surely? What do you have to be proud of about two other people being given titles? Confused it wasn’t like a competition that counties had to compete for and you helped Sussex win Grin

Battleax · 21/05/2018 00:09

Don’t you feel a teeny weeny bit gullible a being so easily duped by the “bread and circuses” razzmatazz? Grin

It’s completely meaningless “keep the masses sweet and we’ll keep our thrones (and wealth and privilege)” hustle. All a big con Smile

sycamore54321 · 21/05/2018 00:15

Does anybody know what it actually means? Does it mean they are the most important people in Sissex and so would temporarily outrank William if they were all there in Sussex together? Or does it have no significance at all and it's just a way of distinguishing Duke 1 from Dike 2?

Do William and Kate make frequent (or any) visits to Cambridge? Does that offer any indication?

Battleax · 21/05/2018 00:17

Or does it have no significance at all and it's just a way of distinguishing Duke 1 from Dike 2?

This. Dukes not dikes Smile

InkSnail · 21/05/2018 00:19

YANBU. We've had peak republicanism now. Cool Britannia is back 😎🇬🇧

sycamore54321 · 21/05/2018 00:20

Ha! Sorry for typos. Dike of Sissex... I must proofread more in future.

RavenWings · 21/05/2018 00:24

I'm just glad they weren't stupid enough to go for Connaught. Although I'd have enjoyed the media furore Grin
