To wonder about royal wedding and drink driving

Random I know but I thought it after Kate and Williams wedding and again now.

Why would the groom choose to drive away from his reception?’

I appreciate there’s no way in hell he’s going to get stopped and breathalysed and it’s mainly private grounds but has he really not been drinking at his own wedding reception?

I think he might not drink at his wedding reception. Plenty of other times to drink and his wedding reception will still be slightly like work for him where he is expected to be on best behaviour. I bet he makes up for it on honeymoon.

I wondered about that too and commented to DH. Did he actually go on to public roads or was he just within the estate grounds. Maybe he's just going to get blitzed at the evening reception Grin

Not everyone drinks lots of alcohol. My dh has never had more than one pint a week since I've known him. We've been to plenty of weddings inc our own and he is always sober.

The first reception will have been loads of 'hi, how are you' to 600 people and I bet neither of them drank. The evening one now the Queen has gone home will be the party 👍

I didn't drink on my wedding day, I wanted to enjoy the day without clouding it. He might do the same or wait until he gets to the evening reception.

I didn’t drink at my wedding reception and I do normally drink. I just wanted a clear head and not be tipsy.

He's probably pretty used to making small talk with hundreds of people without needing a drink in his hand, so maybe he had one or none. No problem driving.

William drove down the mall which certainly isn’t private grounds.

I only saw Harry in the grounds of Windsor castle but I assume he was going elsewhere.

It just seems to jar with the thoroughly modern message throughout the rest of the wedding.

If the media are to believed alcohol wasn't served at the afternoon reception it was elderflower cordial and Apple juice both from sandringham.

It's entirely possible he had no alcohol. However the lack of seatbelt-wearing (at least in the clip I saw) was a bit more flagrant in its disregard for rules of the road.

Given the lip readers said he said ‘I need a drink now’ when they’d passed through the Long Mile’ it just seemed odd.

Appreciate he may not have drunk anything.

Just an odd choice for a groom to drive half way through his wedding proceedings.

It's not odd at all, OP. And if he had a drink after the ceremony and then drove five hours later, don't bother calling the Times about it, because nobody cares!
