To wonder about royal wedding and drink driving

Random I know but I thought it after Kate and Williams wedding and again now.

Why would the groom choose to drive away from his reception?’

I appreciate there’s no way in hell he’s going to get stopped and breathalysed and it’s mainly private grounds but has he really not been drinking at his own wedding reception?

How many grooms arrange to drive half way through their big day?

Mine did. And I've seen loads of cars with "Just Married" banners on them driving away from the reception. Used to be more common admittedly , couples used to set off from the reception for their first night together rather than getting pissed at an evening do.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 20:56

It didn’t, if no one paid for it, any notional price is irrelevant!

I am wondering about the youngest bridesmaid's twin sister being left out of the wedding because she isn't Harry's god daughter. (I know twins don't have to do everything together, but something as big as this?) The boy twins with their gappy teeth smiles were cute.

Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 20:57

Nobody paid for it? A free dress? Result.

Pengggwn · 19/05/2018 20:58

Of course they paid for the dress. Confused

AlfredDaButtler · 19/05/2018 20:58

How many grooms arrange to drive half way through their big day?

My DH did. We had to get home.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 20:58

Interesting replies.

I guess it does demonstrate how common place some of us think drinking at receptions nowadays is but probably never was.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 20:58

Oh hang on, it was $270K. Much more reasonable. Grin

Bluebellsinthegarden · 19/05/2018 20:59

DH said the same.
We have no way of knowing but personally I reckon Mr Party Prince had a couple. As you say he wasn’t going to get breathalysed and even he was over the limit, isn’t he subject to diplomatic immunity? I’m not suggesting he was wasted but I reckon he was probably merry. I hope he was anyway.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 20:59

Massive tangent but I’d be astounded if they were charged for the dress- the kudos of making it is worth probably millions.

Possibly the example they are setting is that not everyone has to drunk themselves stupid at a British wedding.

Very well said @ScrubTheDecks.

Plenty of people are quite capable of enjoying a celebration without alcohol! It’s a very formal occasion and he is under a lot of scrutiny. It would make perfect sense that he would choose not to drink until the more private evening reception.

Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 21:00

If Givenchy are giving out free dresses I will drop them a line.

milliemolliemou · 19/05/2018 21:01

2 glasses of champagne and lunch over three hours? I think he should be fine. Probably won't risk driving after this evening, though ....

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 21:01

No offence sparkling but I doubt you’d give Givenchy the publicity they got today! 😂

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 21:03

You never know OP. Wink

Do Givenchy need publicity?

NorthernLurker · 19/05/2018 21:03

Just when you think mumsnetters have managed to be totally miserable about every aspect of the wedding possible - up pops another thread!

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 21:03

If not publicity, just kudos.

OP posts:
Pengggwn · 19/05/2018 21:04

Givenchy doesn't need the free press, OP, and it would be astoundingly tacky of the Royal Family to not pay for goods just because they raise the profile of the designer. They're not lifestyle bloggers.

Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 21:05

There can't be any more aspects left NL, they have gone to the Reception now Grin. Maybe the Honeymoon destination will set everyone off again...

Monty32 · 19/05/2018 21:06

I don’t drink but my DH does. He didn’t get a chance to have a bottle of beer until about 3pm in the Residents bar after our wedding. Posing for pictures, meeting and greeting and all the mingling takes a lot out of you and we definitely didn’t have 600 guests and a host of celebrities!

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 21:06

I’m not miserable about the wedding at all northorhombic

I thought it at wiliam’s wedding and again today.

Rightly or wrongly, most weddings I’ve ever been to the groom would not be legal to drive after the reception

And I’m not even talking about bunfight weddings 😂

Call the police if youre so concerned

PerspicaciaTick · 19/05/2018 21:08

Given their family history, I imagine that privately William and Harry have pretty strong opinions about drink and drug driving.

HelloViroids · 19/05/2018 21:08

At most weddings I’m at the groom would not be sober enough to drive - but those weddings were not televised internationally and watched by 1/3 of the world’s population! If they were I think the grooms would stay sober - as I reckon Harry did!

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 21:09

Fair point hello 😆
