To wonder about royal wedding and drink driving

Random I know but I thought it after Kate and Williams wedding and again now.

Why would the groom choose to drive away from his reception?’

I appreciate there’s no way in hell he’s going to get stopped and breathalysed and it’s mainly private grounds but has he really not been drinking at his own wedding reception?

He wasn’t driving fast and on private grounds too.
Probably joking about the drink!

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 20:39

The press release said ‘Beverage-wise, guests are being served Pol Roger Brut Réserve Non Vintage Champagne, a selection of wines’

It made me laugh because of the specific reference to the ‘non vintage’- cheap skates!

The car doesn't have seatbelts, from what I could see

Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 20:40

Blimey. Just when you thought all bonkers angles of this wedding have been covered up pops another one.

Frogmore House is in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

KirstenRaymonde · 19/05/2018 20:41

He might have had a couple of glasses of champers. He’s driving five mins down the road on a private road, I’m sure it’s quite fine.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 20:41

It’s probably too old to require seatbelts.

Nobody knows if he had a drink and his new wife is a non drinker so I would be fairly certain she would have issue with him driving her anywhere with a drink in him. Of all conversations to be had about a royal wedding where there are so many things to discuss, this is by far the most ridiculous.

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2018 20:43

His hardly driving miles up the M1.
A mile to another part of the grounds.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 20:43

Frogmore House is in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Fair enough.

William definitely drive on public roads though.

I think Harry and Wills, both trained helicopter pilots, might have the well practised discipline not to drink when they have to it want to drive.

You worry about them setting a bad example driving after a wedding reception. Possibly the example they are setting is that not everyone has to drunk themselves stupid at a British wedding.

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2018 20:45

William probably didn’t drink and drive either!

TheFairyCaravan · 19/05/2018 20:45

I say “I need a drink” all the time but I don’t drink alcohol. I say it because I’m thirsty.

He’s not going out on public roads so i can’t get worked up over it.

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2018 20:46

He was just joking I bet.
Having a drink now I suppose.
Then someone else to drive back. Sorted.

Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 20:47

I can't even remember William driving but that was 7 years ago so probably best not to wonder too much about that now. Unless we can report him this long after the event just in case. Grin

AlfredDaButtler · 19/05/2018 20:47

He could well have said he needed a drink. That doesn’t necessarily mean an alcoholic one.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 20:47

Of all conversations to be had about a royal wedding where there are so many things to discuss, this is by far the most ridiculous.

In your opinion.

I thought it was a fabulous wedding and I thoroughly admire Meghan for making it ‘her day’ despite the odds with it being so steeped in tradition.

I just thought it was strange William drove at his wedding and thought the same today- it’s no big deal.

How many grooms arrange to drive half way through their big day?

halcyondays · 19/05/2018 20:48

I'm sure he would be fine to drive after a glass of fizz. I'd be more worried about all the MNers on the other thread who thought it was ok to drive 5 or 6 hours without stopping.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 19/05/2018 20:48

I doubt he'd have been over the limit. I would hazard a huge guess that they probably had a few glasses of champagne after the service, saving themselves for tonight!

Pengggwn · 19/05/2018 20:49

How many grooms arrange to drive half way through their big day?

What on earth does it matter how many do it? Confused

Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 20:49

I have wondered loads of things today but not about this.

I assume he was really hot in that uniform so a massive glass of pop with ice would have been very welcome. Grin

Bumbumtaloo · 19/05/2018 20:50

To be fair though bearbehind not many grooms go through the pomp and ceremony of a royal wedding. They’re probably glad for the 5mins that they are having on their own away from everyone and the cameras.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 20:50

I do tend to ponder the trivial aspects of things! 😆

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 20:51

I am wondering how a plainish dress can actually cost £270K.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 20:53

See, the dress cost doesn’t enter my head because there’s no way in hell she paid for it.

The honour of making it was worth anything to any designer.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 20:55

I didn't even wonder who paid for it, just how it came to that price.
