To wonder about royal wedding and drink driving

Random I know but I thought it after Kate and Williams wedding and again now.

Why would the groom choose to drive away from his reception?’

I appreciate there’s no way in hell he’s going to get stopped and breathalysed and it’s mainly private grounds but has he really not been drinking at his own wedding reception?

The princes prefer motorbikes! Must be a good way of going around anonymously.

paxillin · 19/05/2018 21:11

Even if he had a drink, all streets were blocked off and empty. I think going to the loo in the average pub is more dangerous.

londonrach · 19/05/2018 21:13

I didnt manage to drink anything on my wedding day as too busy so i bet they didnt either

iamthere123 · 19/05/2018 21:14

In answer to who would drive half way through the wedding - deffo my dad! He's car obsessed - had even offered to weld some ones car on his wedding morning! To get to drive a gorgeous car on his wedding day would be (pun intended) the icing on the cake for him, and his new wife would have had a running commentary of the age of the car, the way it handles, the engine, where it was made, how long it took to make and the whole history of the manufacturer!

Lol iam 😆

The car wasn’t old.
It was a very new electric e type jag.

I am wondering how a plainish dress can actually cost £270K

There was embroidery representing flowers of all the commonwealth countries according to the BBC website so that could be a big chunk of it.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 21:21

Blimey who knew simon

it looked old to me!

paxillin "Even if he had a drink, all streets were blocked off and empty."

He didn't go an any streets. He didn't leave Windsor Great Park.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 21:23

The car cost £350K. Unless of course it's a freebie from Jaguar...

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 21:25

People don’t generally buy the cars used for their weddings! 😂

It’s a massive advert for Jaguar and had a personalised plate that I’m not convinced would actually be road legal.

(I think it’s a new car rather than an old car converted, I might be wrong)

The80sweregreat · 19/05/2018 21:36

An old car converted to be electric.
Charged up during the wedding I suppose.

bearbehind · 19/05/2018 21:37

Crown car don’t even need registration numbers

OP posts:
ginghambox · 19/05/2018 21:37

It was a 1968 E type restored and converted to electric.

Sparklingbrook · 19/05/2018 21:38

Most people don't drive themselves away from their wedding in v expensive Jaguars TBF.

YY the wedding date number plate would be a problem on the roads.

RosaGertrudeJekyll · 19/05/2018 21:39

He looked Stone sober to me.

I'm sure as soon as they hit the reception before downed a drink maybe two the hours and a hours later after food and sift drinks he drove all of two mins on private land ultra slowly to frogmore.. Where he will drink more I imagine

PrimalLass · 19/05/2018 21:49

He's a tall, burly man. Could easily have a couple of drinks at 2pm then be fine to drive at 8 or whenever.

Oliversmumsarmy · 19/05/2018 22:52

Are you the poster who was worried about Kate not being able to drink because she had only just given birth?

Shampaincharly · 19/05/2018 23:01

An electric e type? How depressing and unthrilling is that?
Driving on private land , so all ok.

OliviaStabler · 19/05/2018 23:12

and his new wife is a non drinker

Not true

SimonBridges · 20/05/2018 09:09

An electric e type? How depressing and unthrilling is that?

Have you ever driven an electric car?

honeylulu · 20/05/2018 09:29

The reception after the service was drinks and canapes for all 600 guests, so lots and lots of mingling to diplomatically greet everyone, so fairly formal/official, plus all the formal photos.

They maybe had an glass of champagne or two but no more at that point as it would have been an "official duties" situation.

So absolutely fine to drive at 7pm (in private grounds with no other vehicles on the move).
I bet they were less restrained at their evening party!
