To think they could have left a note if they binned my flowers?

I live in a communal block

I already know you shouldn't leave things outside. However I trust my landing and didn't think one pot was much of a fire risk. I was quite proud of my efforts and thought would brighten things up for a few days to leave my flowers outside on the landing.

I was prepared I might get a knock or a note from the caretaker asking they be moved inside

Today they're gone with no explanation

And I would have liked the pot and oasis foam for next time.

AIBU to think it was incredibly mean to take them? I'm assuming and bIn what was an expensive effort?

The pic is taken before I took them to my landing btw

To think they could have left a note if they binned my flowers?

Are you sure they were binned by a caretaker and not just taken by someone?

killjoyflowers · 18/05/2018 11:59

Of course I can't be sure. But I'm top floor and didnt think would be seen by anyone other than my landing or the postman

They might be considered fire/trip hazard on the landing.

NurseButtercup · 18/05/2018 12:00

YANBU

I would have been happy to see the flowers, but that's just my opinion others may come along soon and disagree.

There's a saying "there's nowt so queer as folk".

Sorry OP, but if the rules clearly state that you can’t leave things outside, then they have a right to do that. I can understand you being annoyed, but if they let you do it, then what’s to stop others doing it, then the place will look shit.

liz70 · 18/05/2018 12:01

I think someone probably just noticed them, pot and all. Some folk will rob anything not nailed down, I'm afraid.

killjoyflowers · 18/05/2018 12:02

Yes as in my op I did appreciate I was breaking the rules and would have moved if asked

Just think it's very mean to not even say you've done it/will do it

OP posts:
19lottie82 · 18/05/2018 12:26

Someone’s prob nicked them.

killjoyflowers · 18/05/2018 12:43

Really upsetting if stolen. I trust my landing so if other people in block it means they actually looked around the block to steal stuff

JamPasty · 18/05/2018 12:43

The rules are there for fire safety though - it's no help putting something there until you're asked to move it as the whole point is that access must be totally clear at all times as fires can happen at any time.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 18/05/2018 12:45

I agree they have most likely be stolen.

liz70 · 18/05/2018 12:47

"someone probably just noticed them"

I meant nicked ffs. Bastard auto correct. Hmm

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 18/05/2018 12:53

It does sound more like they've been stolen. How horrible.

But anyone involved in maintenance or regulation of apartments has to be really hot on things that have been identified as causing obstruction to possible escapes in the event of a fire now, in the current climate. They are having this drummed into them and, given recent events, they have to take it seriously - absolutely nothing on any landings, anywhere.

I'm really sorry about your flowers.

pigeondujour · 18/05/2018 12:53

But were the rules not the warning?

Chewbecca · 18/05/2018 13:19

Did people know it was you who had put them there, would they have known who to ask to move them?

Fiintastic · 18/05/2018 13:25

Sounds like you were expecting this outcome though, was this some kind of experiment

lhastingsmua · 18/05/2018 13:27

Some folk will rob anything not nailed down

It’s true unfortunately

killjoyflowers · 18/05/2018 13:28

@Fiintastic definitely not no. A very expensive experiment for someone like myself

StormTreader · 18/05/2018 13:29

Sadly, if there are rules then you need to follow them. Nothing on the landing means nothing, despite how much you'd prefer there to be flowers.

Mitzimaybe · 18/05/2018 13:57

They have either been nicked or binned, but as they shouldn't have been there in the first place, you're not in a position to complain. No obligation on them to leave a note.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 18/05/2018 14:00

Agree, probably stolen. You could ask the caretaker to find out for sure.

Bluelady · 18/05/2018 14:07

They've been stolen for sure.

Roomba · 18/05/2018 14:08

I've had my lovely hanging basket nicked from the front of my house twice. My dad had some lovely plants dug up and stolen from his front garden during the night! It's possible someone has just nicked your pot, sorry.

Or it could well be that it has been deemed a fire hazard and removed by the caretaker/equivalent person. They are really cracking down on things like this after the Grenfell fire. People have had threat that their mobility scooters and prams will be chucked if not removed within x days - a warning note probably wouldn't be left for a pot of plants tbh.

Acrasia · 18/05/2018 14:14

Perhaps someone thought they had been left there by accident and decided to rehome them rather than find out who they actually belonged to. Do your landing neighbours know you put them there?

UpstartCrow · 18/05/2018 14:27

Why didn't you leave a note saying who they belonged to if you wanted them back?
