to have so many driving peeves?

littleemma1 · 17/05/2018 20:28

This is kind of just for fun but I’m intrigued to know what everyone’s top 3 driving peeves are... I’ll start...

  1. No indicators. Got to be. Especially on busy roundabouts, junctions etc or when cutting you up on dual carriageway. Anytime really 🙄
  2. Drivers who don’t say thank you when you’ve done something nice. Like it’s just a little wave but it makes all the difference! 👋🏻
  3. Drivers who can’t stick to one speed limit on a dual carriageway. Going from 70 to 90 to 80 is just silly. I usually find it goes I overtake them, they overtake me, then I overtake them, then they overtake me. It’s ridiculous. Does make me giggle at how much more fuel they’ll use 🤣 (not to brag but I have the luxury of cruise control so I know it’s not me!)

Please do let me know. I’m very curious.

It's rare that you can, so don't filter down and stop in front of me at the lights.

What car do you drive?

Jonsnowsghost · 18/05/2018 11:47

Not indicating
Slowly pulling up to traffic lights leaving a huge gap in front so I can't get into the slip road on the left until they've pootled out the way, pull up to the car in front so people can get past!
Angrily shouting and gesturing at me in my horsebox when it takes me an extra minute to move over to the left lane when coming off the roundabout, this happens often as I have to go all the way back around it (yard is in a difficult place!) So have to enter in the right lane, go all the way round, come off and move over - it's a slow moving vehicle with half a ton of horse, give me a chance!

MycatsaPirate · 18/05/2018 11:50

Oh god, I need this thread.

Yesterday I went to pull into the small parking area in front of the chemists. A car was sat parked up on the double yellows, blocking the entrance. I was aiming to park in the disabled bay with my blue badge. I sat for a while and then tooted and gestured for the other driver to move forward to let me through. He started shouting at me but eventually moved about 2 feet. I squeezed through the gap and he was waving a blue badge at me and shouting.

I parked, walked back and asked him what his problem was. He said he could park wherever he wants as he has a blue badge. I told him the blue badge is for parking your car and then leaving it, not to let him just sit in the car blocking traffic. He then said his wife was an invalid and can't walk at all and she was in the shop. And then he demanded to know if I had a blue badge, I said yes, he asked my why I have one . Told him it was none of his fucking business.

And then I went to Asda and parked in the disabled bay and a couple sat on the railings with their baby in a pram were blatantly staring at me. As I walked past I heard her say to her boyfriend 'yeah she's at it, there's fuck all wrong with her'.

So my top rant is people either abusing blue badges or assuming that there's nothing wrong with me because i don't look disabled.

Tailgaters

People who drive at 20mph in a 50mph zone on a single carriageway straight road with no hazards. If you can't drive above that speed, stay at home ffs.

littleemma1 · 18/05/2018 12:02

@GrumpyOlderBloke my goodness, your car has quite the tale to tell then!!

Bluelady · 18/05/2018 12:38

I'll match all the above and raise you a new one. When I'm in the left hand lane at a roundabout and some idiot comes up in the right hand lane, completely obscuring my view so I can't see a gap in the traffic. Think, for God's sake!

Lweji · 18/05/2018 12:40

What car do you drive?

It's not a matter of car, but not a Mercedes, BMW or Audi, anyway, if that's what you were thinking.
Quite often I start off before bikers start to move, or have to wait for them to take off to keep a safe distance. Really annoying. Just keep to the side if you must. (not you personally, btw)

Lweji · 18/05/2018 12:43

Oh, and people who stop 10 m away from the car in front in heavy traffic. Then move forward and stop again. No traffic movement. Just decide where you want to stop and stay there, even if it is 10 m from the other car.

natgt · 18/05/2018 12:50

I frequently drive in stop start traffic so mine would be:
Stopping really really close behind me on steep hills. I always panic that i might roll back a little- I haven't yet but it makes me worried and why risk it? Leave half a car at least wankers!
People who think they're to good to queue so on a road where the left hand lane is left turn only go right past us all and suddenly indicate at front of queue
People who skip queues then rejoin so aggressively - I don't want to let them in but it's not worth getting my car dented to be right
The twatbag who clipped my car parked car and drove off.
The other twat who clipped my car and didn't even notice! I had just parked and literally chased them down the street. They were very apologetic but if you don't even notice something like that you shouldn't be driving .
People who creep forward when the light is red - why?
People who stop at lights in the space left for cyclists - why do you think it's there??
Dickheads on their phones.
People who creep forward so you can't see the roundabout traffic

natgt · 18/05/2018 12:53

Oh and people who can't cope with being behind a little car. I'm doing the speed limit you pillock

BobbinThreadbare123 · 18/05/2018 12:56

Well I have just been blocked on a dual carriageway by a 4x4 driving half in both lanes. Just to stop me getting past. Driving a Kia. Older male, as it often is. What the hell is people's problem?!

natgt · 18/05/2018 13:02

Yes I've noticed it's ALWAYS men who overtake me in my little car! And the aggressive queue joiners are always men.

VetOnCall · 18/05/2018 13:10

Twats driving far too fast on the multitude of narrow, winding lanes here in Devon, and often the same utter bellends who, despite being right next to a passing place when you're clearly visible coming in the opposite direction, drive 10 yards past it then sit looking at you as if expecting you to drive up over the hedge or reverse half a kilometre back down the road so they can just keep going. Wankers.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 18/05/2018 13:11

I don't have a small car! My car is sickeningly bright too (Focus ST orange anyone?) and other drivers still often don't see me. If I drive my aunt's Fiesta I get bullied by bigger cars.

SerenDippitty · 18/05/2018 13:12

At traffic light nun tions where the right hand lane is for going straight on or turning right, people who go in the right hand lane but don't indicate they're turning right until the lights change, so I am then stuck behind them for ages as they wait to turn.

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/05/2018 13:13

@TireSwing Whenever I'm out in the hills at the end of a really narrow road in an awkward to get to place, if there is another car parked there, it's always a Jazz. They seem to lead interesting lives!

MeanTangerine · 18/05/2018 13:14

People who drive in the overtaking lane but who are not actively engaged in overtaking. Stop it; you're terrible.

X10000 if a queue of cars has built up behind them but it still doesn't occur to them to move back over Angry

These people almost invariably drive at 10 - 15 mph below the speed limit.

ShotsFired · 18/05/2018 13:24

I sometimes what happens when these aggressive twats (men) get to where they're going and proudly tell everyone how they harangued and bullied other drivers out of their way.

Do they expect people to congratulate them?

FintyTin · 18/05/2018 13:25

I can feel my blood pressure rising reading this thread! 😂
I hate pretty much all of the above, but I would also add people who ignore zebra crossings. There is one not far from us on the main road through the village, and only around 25% of drivers take any notice of it whatsoever.
A few months ago I stopped to let two mums with several small children cross to the nursery. The numpty roaring up behind me thought that it was acceptable to swerve around me and carry straight on over the crossing on the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing the other considerate driver who was travelling in the opposite direction and had also stopped. Far more frighteningly, two toddlers had to be dragged backwards to avoid being knocked down. This is a pretty extreme example, I know, but the crossings are there for a reason!
Vented.

SerenDippitty · 18/05/2018 13:28

Whenever I move into the overtaking lane to overtake a car appears in the distance doing 90-100 mph bearing down on me which is clearly not just using the lane for overtaking.

shirleyschmidt1 · 18/05/2018 13:56
  1. People who insist on being in the right lane going under the speed limit, even when the lane to the left is clear. 40 zones are the worst for this.
  2. Worse, the ones who inexplicably pick the right lane at traffic lights and roundabouts, then take about 5 years to set off and build up any speed, allowing multiple cars/bus/lorry/learners to their left to somehow get in front. Arseholes!
  3. People who pull out on you at the last minute, then drive under the speed limit. If you're that desperate to get on your way then for God's sake haul ass once you're out!!

Yeah, my pet hates have a definite theme 😂

MizCracker · 18/05/2018 14:00

I'm sick of arseholes making a show of overtaking me on residential streets, for having the temerity to be doing 30mph.

Firesuit · 18/05/2018 14:03

People who don't seem to realise the front of their car isn't 10ft long. They stop in a line of traffic and you're behind them thinking "move forward, I could park a car in the gap you've left" and they stop sooner than you expect because you're expecting them to stop close to the car in front.

I've started doing this. If you don't like it, write to VW in Germany, as they seem to have programmed the adaptive cruise control to leave unnecessarily large spaces.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 18/05/2018 14:08

People who stop at lights in the space left for cyclists - why do you think it's there??

Yes! People who do this are the WORST!

passmetheloppers · 18/05/2018 14:41

Dunno why they bother leaving a space for cyclists at traffic lights - the ones round here ignore the lights altogether, ride up onto the pavement, cut across and back onto the road the other side of the lights, thereby jumping the queue.

Butternutsquashy · 18/05/2018 14:55

People that drive 20+ below the speed limit for absolutely no reason..

People that stop too closely behind you on a steep hill. The panic.
