Late period then blood clot? TMI picture warning

Sorry this post contains a tmi picture!
Period was 2weeks late, neg pregnancy tests. Period arrived a few days ago and now I have had a bit of a blood clot. I don't usual get these during my period. Not sure if I should be worried? Has anyone else had similar?

Very normal! Keep an eye on it but unless you have any other symptoms I wouldn't worry.

lastnightidreamtofpotatoes · 16/05/2018 15:41

That looks fine to me OP. That 'clot' looks like the usual type where blood has pooled in the vagina before being released. I get bigger than that on a daily basis, I was told by gynae that anything up to a 50p piece is fine.
Disclaimer: I am not in any way medically trained!

BeefyCakes · 16/05/2018 15:44

Yeah that is normal for me, keep your eye on it though.

If it becomes unmanageable maybe ask for a professional second opinion.

sunnydream · 16/05/2018 15:45

Thanks ladies! I don't have any thing else I'm worried about, everything is all normal!

Hogtini · 16/05/2018 15:48

Yep normal unfortunately. The clotting is just because the blood is coming out too fast and hasn't had enough time to break down the blood. Unless it becomes bigger, smelly, extremely painful etc then not to worry.

liz70 · 16/05/2018 15:54

I occasionally had periods where humongous clots would come gushing out of me, and I daren't get off the loo for what seemed like ages. This was in my mid teens with no sexual history so no pregnancy scares. It just happens, I'm afraid - totally normal.

Fluffyears · 16/05/2018 23:04

It can be part of the extra womb lining breaking away and is normal. I get a lot of pain when I have clots and I think I have contractions as my uterus tries to get the clot out.

I had one massive one in the shower once that made me feel faint, another time I was on the loo and the clot was so large it actually splashed in the loo. Just keep an eye on how you feel.

FASH84 · 16/05/2018 23:06

I get these all the time

beIindaBlinked · 16/05/2018 23:06

My midwife said that anything smaller than a satsuma is ok.

I mean.... it's ridiculously freaky when you pass something that looks like it came from a toy egg vending machine - but still ok.

Ragusa · 16/05/2018 23:08

Normal and not large by my standards.

If you had had even a chemical pregnancy you'd have had a ++ pregnancy test.

In the OP defence getting an appt with a GP in some areas for a non emergency can be nigh on impossible for a couple of weeks. She's just trying to reassure herself

Ragusa · 16/05/2018 23:19

Periods aren't shameful or disgusting Hmm. Nothing wrong with women asking advice of other women...

elliejjtiny · 16/05/2018 23:28

I get clots 2 or 3 times that size. Must be worrying if you don't normally get them though.

Take your smiley elsewhere Ragusa - Point me to where I've said periods are either shameful or disgusting. What I do think a tad OTT is someone posting a pic of their blood clod asking randoms on the internet if it's a fetus which lets face it is what the OP is doing.

No-one no matter what their experience could possibly know unless a healthcare professional.

MumofBoysx2 · 16/05/2018 23:41

That looks totally normal to me. When the blood takes a little longer to come out it clots like that. If you are feeling fine I wouldn't worry about it at all.

HadronCollider · 16/05/2018 23:43

I get these all the time, and much bigger.

rosenylund · 16/05/2018 23:43

Maybe posts like this help to reduce the stigma around periods. I've never seen another woman's experience like this (i.e. a pic) before and thinking it would be better if I had, especially as a young teen.

Until seeing on MN I thought I was the only person who had ever had javlin arse, I thought it meant bad things for years!

HadronCollider · 16/05/2018 23:46

Errrr Whats a javlin arse? My mind is boggling!

rosenylund · 16/05/2018 23:48

Shameful I have spelled it wrong - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/1599370-Arse-pain-during-period-nice-I-know

Javelin arse. Have a read. Then a search, threads are numerous...

Onlyoldontheoutside · 16/05/2018 23:49

Nothing wierd about the clot, not a worry either. Many of us get clots without problems.

tiddliewinkiewoo · 16/05/2018 23:50

I disagree - this has brought back horrible memory of losing a baby around 12 weeks and passing what looked like a big clot.

Nobody but a healthcare professional can say whether something Its to be worried about or normal. We don't have her history, professional knowledge to claim it's normal.

And we certainly can't diagnose from a bloody TMI pic on the internet.

Lalliella · 17/05/2018 00:01

I agree with tiddlie it’s completely unnecessary to post such a picture and could be extremely triggering for women who have had a MC. It could be a picture of a dead baby, however tiny. I’ve reported it.

CookPassBabtridge · 17/05/2018 00:04

Oh for gods sake, the OP put the warning in the title! Why have you clicked on this thread?

Ragusa · 17/05/2018 00:06

Why in heaven's name did you click on a thread with a clear TMI warning and which was in all likelihood going to be about something that could upset you @tiddliewinkiewoo ? I am sorry for your loss and I do jnserdtand having also had a MC at home. My view is different to yours though, in that I think more visibility on this sort of thing is positive for girls, and boys for that matter. My DH had no idea about the practicalities and unpleasentnesses of periods until he lived with me. My aim is to not raise kids like that ....
